Clothes do not define who you are or whether you are a good person or not. Your thoughts and actions define who you are. However, whether you are a good or bad muslim is a completely different story. That being said, Just because you wear a miniskirt doesn't make you a bad muslim but it doesnt neccesarily make you a good one. Then again, There's no such thing as a perfect Muslim. Everyone makes mistakes and tries to fit in with time and location.
Islam requires you to dress modestly so that's why a miniskirt is becoming a controversy.
Being shown as a Muslim "modern girl" doesn't mean you have to wear a tank top.
A modern Muslim girl might have liberal thoughts but that doesn't mean you show up wearing booty shorts. 😕
Zoya is a Muslim girl. It don't matter if she lives in America or Fiji. Wearing a miniskirt=HARAM.
It doesn't matter if she's "modern" or liberal. One can be liberal WITHOUT wearing a miniskirt.
However, zoya is not a bad person but someone who was doing something Haram.
Despite the fact she was just showing Najma, she said she wears miniskirts in America. 😲

Here is where a lot of these posts end up creatng more controversy and end up missing the point. You started off wll and then your comments on what is halaal or haraam came across as judgemental. Granted Zoya's skirt was definitely off base with the norm of what is culturally approrpriate, but when you start with the haram or halaal people do get defensive and miss your point. The problem is the length; it would not be well received in sectors of western society either. It is a straight cut and so tight it required a split. Any shorter and we'd get to see her butt cheeks.
But you are right; this is not the type of skrit we'd typically see and the writers of the show don't care if Muslims people would find it offensive; they are not writing the show for us but a whole othe population in an attempt to showcase how modern Muslim familes have become and use the as a forum to educate Non-Muslims on progressiveness. The show has nothing to do with what is unique about even the average Muslim family - it's a travesty.

I understand that many may feel the haram comment as judgement but I'm not judging. It's just based off of what Islamic scholars have told me.
I don't know what the intention of the writers are but if you put it that way than I do agree how modern Muslim families have become or becoming. I can see the writers are trying to show the CULTURE aspect more of Muslims rather than religion.

Even culturally micro minis are not the norm among Muslims.

It is better to ask for the moon than ask these writers and the production house to do any research.
