Chapter 4:

"Wh-what? You are gay?" questioned Asad, stepping back in shock.

"Well, yes. What part of me does not show it?" Imran said raising his eyebrows.

"I-I mean I could not tell." said Asad fiddling with his collar.

"You could not tell that I was checking you out, even though I was getting daggers from Zoya?" chuckled Imran with amazement.

Asad simply stared and stepped back. This was getting out of hand. Now he was sure both of them would be expecting an apology.

"Urgh-uh I'm s-sorry. Look I really did not mean to hit you. You just were so close to Z-" stuttered Asad.

"It's fine Tiger. I'm all right. I know how possessive you are but just remember, I've only got eyes for you" said Imran winking.

Ignoring the blush reaching his face, Asad moved to Zoya and grabbed her arms. "We have to leave now." Zoya shrugged his hands off and went to hug Imran goodbye. After some laughs and close to teary goodbyes, Imran and Zoya broke apart. This time though Asad felt nothing. He knew now that Imran had no feelings for his girl. Nothing could take her away from him.

Zoya walked towards Asad with a humph and ignored his ever ready frown. She entered the car and slammed the door shut before Asad had the chance to close it for her. Asad sighed loudly and walked to his side, slamming his door too as he took his seat. He knew he wasn't making things better but he was in no mood for Zoya's attitude.

The car ride once again was awkwardly silent. When he turned to look at Zoya this time though, she wasn't sleeping. She looked absolutely indifferent. There was not a single expression he could read on her face at that given moment. He knew he had to apologize. But how? Couldn't she just ignore all that happened and forget?

He inwardly groaned when he noticed little droplets of water cover his windshield. This was the last thing he needed. Rain. On the other hand, a smile crept on Zoya's face when she heard the rain pattering above their heads and the little drops racing down on her window. She loved the rain. The scent. The beauty. The calming effect it brought. But she hated lightning and thunder. Not hated but abhorred. For her lightning was like fire. And anything associated to fire, she hated.

Her train of thoughts were cut out by Asad's groan. He slammed his steering wheel and cursed under his breath.

"Is everything fine Mr. Khan?" Zoya asked.

She heard a sharp intake and shut her eyes waiting for Asad to bark at her once again. But when she heard nothing coming her way, she peeked out of one eye and saw Asad's head resting on the steering wheel. Okay this was scary. She had no idea what was happening.

"Mr. Khan are you okay?" Zoya asked resting her hand on Asad's back. Did he faint, she wondered but was assured that he was fine when he flinched under her touch. She removed her hand and Asad slowly sat up straight, not once looking at Zoya.

"Why have we stopped here Mr. Khan?"

Asad groaned and ran his hand through his hair. He hated messing his hair up but he was to upset at the moment to care. "Something is wrong with the car. And I have no idea who will we call, I mean its raining. Urgh- this is why I hate this monsoon season. So inconvenient."

"Hey Mr. Khan you see that cottage there" Zoya squinted her eyes and pointed in the direction where she saw the shelter.

"Yeah so?" asked Asad, clearly annoyed.

"What do you mean so? It's going to get dark soon and it's not safe to stay in a car on an isolated road. And it's raining too." Zoya said trying to prove her point.

Asad sighed and said, "Well, I guess you are right. Aap idhar hi rukiye."

He then removed his coat and stepped out of the car, using his coat to shield himself from the rain. Running to Zoya's side he opened her door and asked her to join him.

Zoya hesitated slightly before stepping up to stand next to Asad who looked clearly annoyed having to hold his coat like an umbrella with both hands.

"One,two,three-run!" screamed Zoya, once again becoming her jovial self.

Asad shook his head but followed her, both running like maniacs trying to reach the porch of the little mud hut. Both could not help but brush against each other as they ran. It just felt too good to not do. The slight brushes sent chills down their spines making them feel colder than they already were.

They both panted as they reached the little wooden door and a smile was playing on the corner of both their lips. But it was Zoya who let it out and broke into small bouts of giggles. "Th-that was so fun!" she mouthed, still not over her laughing spree. Asad rolled his eyes and looked at the sky and as if on cue, the branches of light splattered the sky followed by the clash of thunder. Zoya's laugh abruptly stopped as she stepped behind Asad and closed her eyes shut. Asad sensed her fear and walked to the door, which opened with a gentle push.

"Zoya, I think we should go in." Asad said gently.

Zoya opened her eyes and immediately entered the hut shivering with the cold and her fear. She took a deep breath as she took in the small hut. Everything was neatly in place but there was no one in the house. There was a broken chair in one corner and one corner had a small wooden bed. There was an earthen pot across the room with some other useful utensils. Zoya could see no more as the clouds had gotten darker and there was no light in the room. She felt Asad standing behind her and she had his sudden urge to just step back into his arms and chest but before she could even comprehend her desires she felt Asad move away and turn on the flash on his phone.

"Here, I found this lamp. Do you have any idea how to light it? Oh here's a match!" Asad said as his hands tried to find the objects in the dark.

"Yes I actually do. Mr. Khan how many times do I have to tell you that Ae sa koi kaam nahi hain joh Zoya Farooqui nahi kar sakti" said Zoya as she crouched beside Asad and took the lamp from his hands. She rested it on the small wooden stand and carefully removed the glass covering. She turned the knob on the side until a small wick peeped out from the lamp and Zoya lighted it with the match.

The dim light filled the room with a gorgeous shade of orange and Zoya was grateful for her renewed sight. She turned around with a smile and shivered as she saw Asad's face. He defined utter perfection. His chiseled jaw, his straight nose, and those eyes shone with such a twinkle that Zoya could simply not look away.

"Are you still upset?" asked Asad.

"Are you feeling well?" was Zoya's counter reply.

"Why?"

"Well you usually don't care about what I feel" said Zoya and noticed a small crease on Asad's forehead.

"I-I don-" but before Asad finish, a loud clash of thunder filled the room and Zoya's hand instinctively went to her ears.

"You scared?" asked Asad will a small smirk.

"N-no of course not! Who do you think I am, a filmy heroine who will run into the arms of the hero, by hearing thunder and seeing lightning?" screamed Zoya, now seriously scared and cold.

Asad could see through her facade and noted her shivering form. He would have given her his coat but it was wet and would just make her case worse. He looked around the hut and found a small blanket. He wrinkled his nose in disgust at all the dust but still grabbed the cloth and dusted it well.

He carried it back and handed it to Zoya who took it gratefully. She wrapped herself and sat on the little wooden bed.

Asad sat beside her and no one spoke but this time it wasn't silent. Flashes of white light filled the room and in rhythmic interval thunder followed cue. Zoya's body felt much better wrapped in the blanket but when she turned to Asad, he didn't look all that well. His lip was quivering and his muscles were all clenched up. Zoya gasped at her selfishess and removed the blanket off her and kept it on Asad's lap. Asad turned to her and shook his head, handing her the blanket back.

Zoya groaned at his stubbornness and spoke up, "We can share it Mr. Khan."

Asad just looked at her as if she was retarded and once again shook his head. "Look at its size."

Zoya spread the blanket out in the air and decided it was fine. She shifted closer to Asad and tried to wrap the blanket around both their shoulders but it barely covered their backs. Their front portion was open to the harsh air coming from the little windows near the door.

Asad shook the blanket off his shoulders and said, "Ms. Farooqui, can you just keep it. I'm not cold."

"I can see that Mr. Khan. How about this you go lean on the wall and I'll sit between your legs. That way we'll be able to wrap the blanket and we both will be warm. Sharing body heat you know" said Zoya oblivious to what she was indicating.

Asad looked at her with a hard stare but saw nothing in her eyes. Was she that innocent? But Asad was really cold and he moved towards the wall and leaned on it closing his eyes. He felt Zoya moving closer and his heart beat hitched up as the bed creaked. Zoya put her hands on Asad's legs and spread them apart, thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea. But they both were cold and she didn't want any of them to get sick. They already had a broken car and no phone connection. She bit her lips and went to sit between Asad legs slowly leaning her body into his. The burst of warmth was overwhelming and both their head swarmed at the heat radiating off each other. Zoya pulled the discarded blanket and wrapped it around them with shaky hands. She could not control the reactions of her body and just leaned into Asad, giving into her yearnings. She smiled as she felt Asad's heart thumping in his chest, quick and loud. So he had a heart after all she thought. Asad who was breathing slowly trying to quiet himself was so tempted to wrap his hands around Zoya and pull her into him more but he knew he did not have the guts so both just shut their eyes and feigned sleep and tried to calm their erratic heart.
