Chapter 4: Nicknames and Warnings
Asad stood in awe as he watched Fahad run into Zoya's arms.
"Momma! Did you see me shoot the ball? It went in! Did you see?" Fahad asked with excitement.
"I sure did! You were awesome!" Zoya smiled and kissed Fahad on his nose, "I'm so proud of you!"
Fahad's eyes lit up, and smiled wide as he grabbed Zoya's hand and started to walk toward Asad.
"Coach Asad taught me. He's the best!" Fahad said pointing to Asad.
"I'm sure he is," Zoya giggled.
Asad shuffled his feet, and blushed when Zoya made eye contact with him and smiled. He pulled at his collar and swallowed hard. He tried to discreetly check Zoya out, not knowing Ayaan was staring at him with rage in his eyes. Asad's eyes quickly swept over Zoya, and he smiled. She was wearing a grey Stanford shirt, and faded jeans. Asad was used to her wearing skirts and dresses, which she always looked beautiful in, but there was something about her casual outfit that made Asad need another cold shower. Her hair was piled on top of her head in a neat bun, and Asad thought she looked sexy, since not a lot of girls could pull off that look. He blushed again at the thought.

Oblivious to the fact that the two adults already knew each other, Fahad pulled Zoya close to Asad.
"Coach Asad this is my mom, mom this is coach Asad."
The adults shared a smile and Asad held out his hand to Zoya. They shook hands, feeling the same electrical spark from the first day, only this time it was stronger.
"It's an honor to meet you Miss. Farooqui." Asad winked, and Zoya blushed as she giggled.
"This is a much better introduction then the first time" Zoya laughed along with Asad.
Ayaan stood on the side with wide eyes, and he balled his fists at the side.
Asad and Zoya? No, no, no, no, no, no. Absolutely not! This must be a misunderstanding. Ayaan thought.
Fahad furrowed his brow, "What do you mean 'the first time' Mom?"
Zoya smiled, "I know Asad from work, sweetie. He coaches the Ravens with Uncle Ay."
Asad's eyes suddenly widened.
Uncle?
Before Asad could question anything, Ayaan suddenly came up behind him and grabbed Asad's arm roughly.
"What the hell man?" Asad turned around.
Ayaan mouthed 'Be right back' to Zoya, and dragged Asad to the corner.
"Please tell me Zoya isn't 'the girl' Asad!" Ayaan whisper shouted.
Asad clenched his jaw, and looked at the ground, and stayed silence.
"You've gotta be freaking kidding me! No. This isn't happening. You can't like Zoya." Ayaan yelled louder.
"Lower your voice!" Asad whispered. "And why not? How do you even know her?"
Asad balled his fists at his next thought, "You didn't, like, date her right?"
Ayaan gagged. "Ew, no. She's like my sister Asad!"
Asad's eyes widened. "Wh-what?" He stuttered.
"I've known her practically my entire life. If you know what's good for you, you're gonna stay the hell away from her. Understand me?"
Asad gave Ayaan a pointed look "Or what?"
Ayaan grabbed Asads shirt "Or you'll deal with me."
"What the hell is your problem? You just told me to go after her an hour ago!"
"Yeah, that was before I knew it was Zoya!"
"What's the big deal?"
Ayaan was about to scream at Asad more, when Zoya suddenly walked over.
"Um, Ay is everything alright?"
Ayaan looked at Asad. "Just perfect. Right Sad??" He spat.
Asad looked from Zoya to Ayaan still trying to comprehend how Ayaan had known Zoya his whole life, but Asad never once met her. If he did he would've asked her out a long time ago.
"Okaay." Zoya drawled out, but before she could finish, Fahad came up and interrupted.
"Mommy, can Asad come to my party next Saturday? Please?" Fahad pleaded.
Zoya looked up, "Oh, um, I don't know, Asad's really busy, I'm sure he has better things to do…"
Asad quickly interrupted, "No, I'm free." He said quickly. "I mean uh if you want me to go…" He said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Fahad yelled "Yes!"
Zoya smiled "Okay, great. We'd love it if you can come."
"I'll be there." Asad smirked, and Ayaan cleared his throat loudly.
"Actually Asad, doesn't your mom want you to vi-"
Asad quickly elbowed Ayaan in the stomach. "Nope, I'm free."
"Are you friends with Asad, Uncle Ay ?" Fahad suddenly asked.
Ayaan snorted "Worse. We're cousins."
Zoya's head suddenly shot up.
"Are you serious?"
Asad nodded.
"Unfortunately." Ayaan said.
Asad turned around and grabbed Ayaan in a playful headlock "You know you love me." Asad joked, and nudged Ayaan's head.
Zoya giggled like a school girl, seeing how adorable Asad was with Ayaan.
How the hell did I miss this? They have the same last name…I wish Ay would've introduced me to him…
Asad let go of Ayaan and looked at Zoya "I thought you were a genius, Stanford." Asad nodded toward her shirt, and smiled. Lately he's been calling her a lot of different nick-names, and Stanford seemed to be the winner. Her heart warmed, and she bit her lip.
"How'd you not figure out Ayaan was related to me? Maybe you're not a genius…"
Zoya pretended to look hurt. "For your information, Duke, the last name 'Khan' happens to be a popular name."
They shared a warm smile, and Ayaan wanted to gag at their bogus flirting.
"Touch." Asad smirked.
God that smirk…
"Get a room!" Ayaan spat.
Zoya and Asad exchanged a curious look, but both blushed at the sexual innuendo.
"Actually Asad, it's time to go, let's go." Ayaan said.
Asad frowned, he was having fun with Zoya and didn't want to separate.
"Okay, bye Stanford. I guess I'll see ya Monday? Don't forget you owe me lunch."
Zoya playfully rolled her eyes. "Like I could forget."
"Bye Fahad, it was so nice to meet you. I knew I liked you, but now that I found out that you're her son, I like you even more." Asad smirked. 'I'll see you Saturday, and keep working on your jump shot okay bud? Next week I want to see you make three in a row! Think you can do it?"
"Totally!" Fahad shouted.
Asad chuckled. "Okay, cool, I can't wait." He said as he locked eyes with Zoya.
Ayaan was about to punch Asad, since he kept flirting with Zoya right in front of him.
"Bye Ayaan, I'll talk to you tonight. I'll probably hang out with Humaira later." Zoya said as she hugged Ayaan. Before she could stop herself, her body took over and she leaned in for a hug with Asad. It happened so fast Asad didn't even realize what was happening. He thought it was a dream. He wrapped his strong arms around her tiny waist, and she squeezed his upper torso.
"Bye Duke! I'll see you Monday." She smiled.
Asad couldn't speak since he was still in shock from the hug, so he just nodded.
Fahad followed in his mother's footsteps and hugged Asad, He was so short that he was only able to hug his legs. But Asad patted his head.
"Bye Asad! Thanks for teaching me how to play! I had so much fun!" Fahad smiled.
Asads heart swelled with pride. He never really liked kids but he liked Fahad a lot, almost as much as he liked Fahad's mom.
Zoya watched the encounter and smiled, holding in her tears. This was the first time Fahad got along with a stranger. He was usually so shy, and never talked to anyone he didn't know, but with Asad, he acted like he knew him his whole life.
Zoya and Fahad said their final goodbyes and Ayaan shoved Asad, as soon as they left the gym.
"Ayaan! What's with you?"
"No, don't ask what's with me! What's with you? I told you to stop. Don't even think about being with Zoya. It's not gonna happen. So find some other s**t to sleep with."
Asad's blood boiled, "Zoya isn't a s**t!"
"Exactly! That's why she isn't right for you. Don't go there Asad. I'm serious."
"Who says I want to sleep with her?" Asad shouted.
"Puh-lease! Love em' and leave em'. That's your style right? Well Zoya's been through enough. She doesn't deserve to be a part of your little game. I know you Asad. She's gonna fall for you, and you're gonna break her heart. You DON'T deserve her. She's too good for you. Zoya doesn't need more shit to deal with, so leave her alone. Do you understand me?"
Asad clenched his jaw, and balled his fists. "You think I don't know that? I know Zoya's better than me, ok? I don't want to be that guy anymore Ayaan. I want to be with Zoya. I've never felt this way before."
Ayaan laughed bitterly "Yeah, that's cuz' you're going through a dry spell. Just go to a bar, find some random girl, and I'm sure you'll forget all about Zoya. Just save your bull shit Asad. I swear to god Asad, stop whatever is going on between the two of you, or else."
Asad exhaled deeply; he was literally two seconds away from pummeling Ayaan.
"Consider this your warning Asad." And with that Ayaan walked away, leaving a very confused, and hurt Asad.
