Part 2 - We Meet Again!
"When are you going to talk to Dilshad phupi?" Zeenat asked her husband Anwar.
"I can't just drop it on her like that." Anwar tried explaining to her but she wouldn't hear any of it. She dialled Dilshad's landline number and handed the phone to him.
"Hello?" Dilshad asked.
"Salamwalekum Dilshad phupi main Anwar." He greeted her.
"Oh Anwar beta how are you? I hope Zeenat and Zoya are fine. Everything is alright? Is there some problem?" Dilshad asked in one breath.
"Everyone is fine phupi, actually Zoya has come to Bhopal to attend her best friend's wedding." Anwar answered.
"Wow, that's great! And what about you and Zeenat?"
"Unfortunately we couldn't come. I've got some really important meetings lined up this week."
Zeenat pouted at this. She really wanted to go to Bhopal but Anwar's meetings didn't allow them to.
"Where will Zoya stay?" Dilshad enquired.
"She'll be staying in a hotel."
"Arrey how can she stay in some hotel when she has her phupi? No! I will not let that happen. She has to stay here in my home." She said with finality in her voice.
"I'm sure Zoya would be thrilled to meet you again." He said.
"Waise how is she now? You know what I mean!" she asked in a serious tone.
"It took her a lot of time to get over it but I guess she is fine now. I'm not sure, she never tells anyone what she actually feels. She always masks her true feelings. It has become very difficult to read her." His voice suddenly filled sadness as he thought about Zoya's troubled past.
"I'm sure she'll come out of it eventually." Dilshad sympathised with him.
Anwar was wondering how to bring up the topic that he wanted to talk about. Dilshad sensed something was wrong and decided to ask him about it.
"Yes actually there is something that I wanted to talk to you about.." he began.
oOo
Zoya was all over the place making sure the preparation was perfect, checking and re-checking the arrangements, deliveries, gifts and decoration.
Her happiness knew no bounds today. First it was her best friend's engagement ceremony. She had known Rehaan and Amrin ever since their college days. It was love at first sight for them, now when they were finally getting married she couldn't be happier.
The second reason for her ecstasy was that she was going to stay with her phupi! All these twenty years there wasn't a single day when she hadn't talked about her. She missed her gentle motherly touch, her sweet caring voice. She remembered how she used to walk in her house whenever she wanted and her phupi always welcomed her and appi with open arms.
And the third and main reason for her elation was that she would get to see him after twenty years. She was five when she had last seen him. She still remembered his desponded face when she said her final goodbye.
He had cried and begged her not to go. And she didn't want to but the decision to stay or no was neither in her hands nor his.
She wondered how he would look now and smiled to herself. She thought if he was still the same chubby little seven-years-old who loved butter chicken and bread jam and who had once said that he would marry only if the girl could make his ammi's special fish fry.
She giggled at the thought. Just then someone called her to check the flower arrangements. She shook her head and decided to concentrate on the work at hand, she could picturize him later.

Asad's POV
I hate attending functions and weddings and engagement parties and other shit! Damn if Mr Qureshi wasn't a very important client of Dilshad constructions then I would've never agreed to attend his son's engagement party. Hell, I didn't even know the bride and groom personally.
'Rehaan weds Amrin!'
That was what written in simple calligraphy on the wedding card.
I never paid much attention to wedding cards but this particular card had caught my eye. It was simple yet beautiful and classy, not like those typical wedding cards. The colour was thankfully not maroon or red. It was lavender and white. The person who selected the cards must have a pretty good taste.
Great now I'm describing someone's wedding card. That just shows how bored I am!
When I had first read the name 'Rehaan' I was immediately reminded of the whole cab fiasco that had happened two days ago. No matter how much I tried to push that event in the back of my mind, it just kept springing back up.
I took a deep breath and looked around, searching for Mr Qureshi but he was nowhere in sight. Weren't hosts supposed to be present near the door to welcome the guests?
I pinched the bridge of my nose and walked in.
I was just roaming around the hall when I spotted Mr Qureshi, he was talking to someone. His back was facing me but I was sure it was him, his male patterned baldness confirmed it to me.
I was making my way towards him when I smelt an all too familiar flowery scent. It was the same scent that I had smelt in the cab two days ago. It surprised me that I still remembered the scent. I whipped back to look at the girl but she was not there. I closed my eyes and shook my head. Damn I need to get a grip on myself!
"Mr Khan!" Mr Qureshi called out to me. I turned back to face him and started walking towards him.
"Mr Qureshi I was searching for you." I said.
"Yeah I was busy talking with one of my relative. Weddings! They keep you on your toes all day long. Take the wedding planner for example. The girl who is planning this wedding is my son and his fiance's best friend. She is a very talented girl and has made sure to make this wedding the best thing that could happen in my son's life." He soon spotted his son and called out to him.
His son came and stood in front of me and I was surprised to see that he was the same Rehaan from the cab incident.
Seems like my hunch was right! Wait that means that the girl was here too since she is his fiance. I knew I wasn't imagining her smell, it was really her!
Whoa Asad stop thinking about someone's fiance's smell however sweet and intoxicating it maybe!
"Rehaan this is Mr Asad Ahmed Khan my business partner. Mr Khan this is my son Dr Rehaan Qureshi."
We shook hands, his grip a little too tight for a handshake. Seriously! What was his problem? Does he still think of me as a person who harasses random woman on the street? Give me a break!
Mr Qureshi excused himself, Rehaan gave me another sceptical look and walked away. That guy is creepy! No wait, he thinks I'm creepy.

Third person POV
Zoya walked out of the room fidgeting with her dupatta.
"Indian dresses are a serious pain in the ass!" she muttered under her breath.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice the person in front of her and collided with him. She closed her eyes reflexively and waited for the fall which didn't come as a pair of strong muscled arms wrapped around her waist prevented her from falling.
At the same time on the first floor a woman carrying two trays of rose petals tripped and the petals fell on the couple below.
Zoya slowly opened her eyes to look straight into a pair of dark brown eyes.
*****
Asad was walking around aimlessly. He didn't know anyone and he wished he had gotten Ayaan with him. He saw a loose thread on the cuffs on his sleeves and his OCD kicked in. he was busy pulling the thread when someone bumped into him.
Instinctively he stretched his arms forwards to hold her and keep her from falling. Suddenly rose petals started falling on them, he looked up to a see a middle-aged woman apologising for her clumsiness. He nodded and then looked down to see who the girl was.
His eyes widened as he realised it was the same Ms New York who had fought with him and because of that he had to cancel his meeting. It was a good thing that Mr Qureshi was in town for his son's wedding and he managed to schedule another meeting.
She slowly opened her eyes and he felt himself drown in those deep beautiful hazel eyes. Unknown to him a small smile caressed his lips as he continued to stare at her. All his anger melted away by just looking at her beautiful face.
Zoya also seemed to be lost in those big eyes. She saw a sweet smile form on his face and damn he looked hot!
She felt his thumb making small circles on her waist and then realization hit her hard like a lightening bolt. He was the same Mr Suit-n-tie! She raised her eyebrows and said angrily,
"You! How dare you touch me. Leave me!"
The beautiful moment was broken by her harsh tone and the smile that had adorned his face was replaced by a frown and irritation. He immediately left her and she fell on the ground with a thud.
"Ouch!" she rubbed her back and stood up.
"What the hell! Why did you drop me?" she yelled.
"You asked for it. If I hold you it's a problem and if I don't then it's a problem, make up your mind woman." He said irritatedly.
She huffed and smoothed her dress. She was wearing a red full-sleeved flowing anarkali dress with sequence on the sleeves and a heavy diamond work on the chest portion. The diamonds on her dupatta glinted when light hit them.
Asad looked at her dress, sure it was beautiful and suited her well but it was not the kind of dress one would wear on their engagement.
"Why do I care?" he thought to himself.
Just then a girl came and stood in front of Zoya with her back facing Asad.
"Zoe I need your help, the zip of my dress is stuck." She sounded worried.
"Allah miyan let's go! You couldn't call me earlier?" she chided her and walked away.
"Zoe? Her name should be Amrin. Maybe they call her Zoe. But what type of name is Zoe? Ya Allah why do I care?" he ran his hands through his hair and went in search of Mr Qureshi.
oOo
"Mr Qureshi I need to go." He said. He was having a headache. Whenever he met her it always led to fights and he didn't want to yell at her on her engagement.
"But Mr Khan you haven't even met the bride."
He wanted to say 'Oh trust me I have' but that wouldn't be the correct thing to say.
"We still have the wedding but right now I really need to go."
"Ok Mr Khan thanks for coming."
Asad nodded and walked out of the hall.
oOo
Zoya was pinning up Amrin's dress but her mind was still stuck at her second encounter with him. The way he held her, the way he looked at her as if she was the most beautiful thing, the way he smiled..
"Ouch Zoe where are you lost?" Amrin asked. Zoya had unknowingly pricked her with the pin.
"Oh sorry!" she said, still lost in her thoughts.
"By the way who was that guy you were talking to?" Amrin asked.
"You remember I told you about a guy who fought with me over a cab."
"Oh My God Zoya that was him?" she shrieked.
Zoya nodded.
"Geez Zoe he is not Mr Suit-n-tie, he is more of a Mr Hot-n-handsome." She giggled.
"Wait till I tell Rehaan what you just said." Zoya winked and came in front of Amrin to fix her dupatta over her head.
"Waise what is he doing here?" Zoya asked.
"Beats me! Maybe Rehaan knows him." Amrin suggested.
"Nah I don't think so. That day even Rehaan was there with me and he didn't seem to recognize him."
There was a knock at the door and Amrin asked the person to come in.
"I've come to escort my wife-to-be." Rehaan walked in and kissed amrin's cheeks while she blushed.
"She is all yours!" Zoya smiled looking at their love.
"Ooh Rehaan what is Zoya's Mr Akdu doing here?" Amrin asked.
"He is not MY Mr Akdu." She rolled her eyes.
"Oh I forgot to tell you he is my dad's most important business partner."
"Oh! What's his name?" Zoya asked casually.
"Yes Rehaan tell her his name, can't you see she is so desperate in knowing his name." Amrin teased her. Zoya glared at her and she stopped with her teasing.
"His name is" but before he could say his name Amrin's mother came in and asked them to come downstairs.
