Dilshaad-Asad Conversation : Our Versions
As we all anxiously anticipate the mother-son conversation tomorrow, why don't we all write a short OS? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts and versions on this..
My Version:
As seen in the promo, Asad, Dilshaad and Tanu have returned from the wedding banquet, while Najma and Zoya are still on their way.
"Asad, mujhey sach sach batao, kya tum Zoya se pyaar nahin karte?'
"Asad, please tell me the truth. Don't you love Zoya?"
Asad turns his head away.
"Tumney Zoya ko anghoothi pehnayi hai Asad, kya tum us se mohabbat nahin karte?"
"You placed a ring on her finger Asad. Doesn't that mean you really love her?"
An emotional Asad is about to reply, but then notices Zoya and Najma walk through the front door. Zoya's last words still echo in head, "I am not mad!"
"NAHIN! MAIN ZOYA SE MOHABBAT NAHIN KARTA!" He replies vehemently and walks away from the living room, shutting his bedroom door behind him. Dilshaad notices the color drain from Zoya's face. Obviously, she has heard his answer.
"NO! I DON'T LOVE ZOYA!"
In a corner, Tanveer beams victoriously. Razia's observation notwithstanding, she has again found an open door to finagle her way into Asad's life.
Zoya, heartbroken, runs off to her room without uttering a word. A tearful Najma can't believe what she just heard. Bhaijaan couldn't have said that. She has seen them together; they are always so oblivious to everyone around them when they are together- of course they are in love.
Dilshaad takes a deep breath. She is seething with anger but is not convinced with Asad's answers.
She follows Asad to his room.
"ASAD!"
Asad stood near the window, pensive and tearful. Shireen's insults, ammi's pledge about his nikaah and then her question about Zoya have plagued his mind. Ammi's word is like an order from Allah but his mind doesn't want to give in; how can he act against his principles?
"Ammi?" He turned around, "ab bahut raat ho gayi hai, aap please so jaaiye."
"it's late ammi. You should go to bed."
"Nahin Asad. Jab tak tum mere sawaal ka jawaab nahin doge, main na tho so paaungi, aur na hi chain se baith paaungi."
"No Asad. I need an answer. I won't be able to sleep or rest unless you answer my question."
"Ammi, maine aapko apna jawaab de diya hai." He averted his gaze and stared outside the window.
"Ammi, I have already answered your question."
"GALAT! Merei aankhon mein aankhein daal kar bolo Asad. Tumhari zubaan kuch bhi kahe, lekin main tumhari aankhon mein sach dekhna chaahti hoon."
"WRONG! I want you to look at me in the eye and then answer. You can say what you want but your eyes will never defy the truth Asad."
"Ammi, aap tho janti hain, main mohabbat jaise jazbaton mein yakeen nahin rakhta."
"Ammi, you know I don't believe in love."
"Yakeen rakhte nahin ya yakeen rakhna nahin chaahte?" She pulled his arm and forced him to have eye contact with her.
"You don't believe in love or don't want to believe in love?"
"Ammi! Aap jazbaaton mein beh rahi hain. Please calm down and think about it."
"Ammi, you are getting emotional. Please calm down and think about it."
"Asad, kya tum apni ammi ki baat poori nahin karoge? Dekha na tumne, un logon ne kaise tumhari ammi ki bhari mehfil mein be izzati ki aaj?"
"Asad, you have to keep my promise. Don't you remember how they all insulted me in public today?"
"Jaanta hoon ammi, lekin aap hi tho kehti hain ki aise logon ko mooh nahin lagaana chaahiye."
"I understand ammi but you have always taught me to stay away from such scumbags."
"Aaj unhonein mere bachchon par ungli uthaai hai Asad! Mujhey wo kuch bhi keh lein, lekin main apne bachchon ki be izzati kabhie nahin she sakti. Asad, I need an answer."
"Asad, they have insulted my kids today. I don't care when they insult me, but I can't tolerate anyone saying anything against my kids. I need an answer."
"Ammi'k-kya aapne Ms Farooqui se poocha hai? Wo tho is sagai ko bhi nakli samajhti hain."
"Have you asked Ms Farooqui? I don't think she wants this engagement. She thinks it's fake"
"Na tum is sagai ko nakli samajhte ho, aur na wo."
"I disagree. Neither you, nor she thinks this is a fake engagement."
"Yeh aap kaise keh sakti hain ammi?"
"How can you be so sure ammi?"
"Jo ladki apne nikaah se bhaag sakti hai, wo anghoothi tabhi pehnegi jab wo us rishte ko sachcha maane."
"A girl who can runaway from her nikaah, will only accept an engagement ring if she believes in it."
"Wo tho unhone visa ke liye.."
'She did it for the visa..."
"Wo tumhein lagta hai Asad. Kya tumne kabhie yeh jaan ne ki koshish ki hai ki wo Hindustan mein kyun rehna chaahti hai? Ab tho uske abbu ka kissa bhi khatam ho gaya. Tho phir kyun?"
"That's what you think Asad. Have you ever tried to find out why she wants to stay back in India? Her mission to find her father is over."
"A-apke aur Najma ke liye."
"For Najma and you ammi."
"Asad! Shayad tum ek aurat ka dil kabhie nahin samajh paaoge."
"ASAD! I don't think you can ever understand a woman's heart."
"Ammi'Zoya is ghar ke liye theek nahin hai! Her values are different, uske sochne ka tareeka, uska rehen sehen hamari family mein nahin chalega."
"Ammi, I don't think she is the right girl for our family. Her values, her thinking and way of living will not work for our family."
"Yeh tumhara sochna na hai Asad. Lekin main jaanti hoon ki agar koi ladki is ghar ki bahu ban ne le laayak hai tho wo hai Zoya. Wo bhi tumse be inteha mohabbat karti hai. Maine uski aankhon mein dekha hai. Uski subah tum se shuru hoti hai, aur shaam bhi tumhare liye hi hoti hai. Deewani hai wo tumhari Asad."
"That's what you think Asad. If there is any girl who can adjust in our family, it's Zoya. I have read her eyes. She is crazy about you. Her day begins with you and ends with you."
Asad is stunned but comes back with a retort.
"Ammi'lekin'aap tho jaanti hain, main nahin chaahta ki uski zindagi bhi aap ki tarah'..." He paused.
"Ammi, I don't want her to suffer all her life like you..."
"Meri tarah akeli reh jaaye?" She taunted him.
"You mean you don't want her to spend the rest of her life in isolation?"
He remained silent.
"Jaante ho Asad, tumhare abbu ne 17 saal pehle jo bhi kiya ho, jis wajah se bhi kiya ho, mujhey iska jawab nahin chaahiye, lekin itna zaroor jaanti hoon ki unhone mujhse sachchi mohabbat ki thi'aur shayad ab bhi karte hain. Mujhey chhod kar unki zindagi mein na tho mohabbat hai, aur na hi khushi. Wo tho ek zinda laash hain Asad. Tabhie tho sirf chup rehte hain ab. Jaise unki zubaan hi kisi ne kheech lee ho. Kya tum bhi aise gumnaami ki zindagi jeena chaahte ho Asad?"
"Asad, your father might have betrayed me 17 years ago, but I know he really loved me when we were together. After leaving us, he has lived a loveless and lonely life. He is a living corpse. No wonder he has lost all ability to speak up. Do you really want to live a life like that Asad?"
"Ammi..yeh aap kya keh rahi hain? I don't understand all this."
"What do you mean ammi?"
"Shayad samjhoge bhi nahin, kyunki sachchi mohabbat ki value tabhie pata chalti hai, jab hum usey kho dete hain. Zoya ki mohabbat ko thukra kar tumne aaj yeh saabit kar diya hai ki tum Janab Rashid Ahmed Khan ke hi bte ho!"
"I don't think you will ever understand Asad. One can value love only after losing it. If you don't accept your love, I will not hesitate to say that you are really Janab Rashid Khan's son!"
"AMMI!" Asad yelled in anger, "aap meri tulna unse kar rahi hain? Jinhonein humein siva gham ke kuch nahin diya?" Ammi had touched a sore chord.
"AMMI! Hoe can you compare me with him? He has only given us unhappiness."
"Kyunki tum bhi wo hi karne jaa rahe ho Asad."
"Because that's what you are trying to do Asad."
Dilshaad turned around and walked to the door.
Asad followed her and placed his hand on her shoulder, 'ammi'.please inform Zoya's aapi and jiju'.main is nikaah ke liye tayyar hoon."
"Ammi. Please inform Zoya's aapi and jiju. I am ready for this nikaah."
