First of all this post is not meant to bash any characters or any one but just a general thought that passed my mind seeing many posts in the forum in general.
It is an universal truth that a single man with high nose, hoity-toity attitude, with full of pride like Mr. Darcy will always gets flocks of fans. Ok don't kill me but couldn't help trying to imitate the first line of P&P, like many here this novel is my all time favorite and in fact works as a therapy for me whenever I am down. 😃
Any way my point here is, we always fall for a person in a show with an arrogance, don't-care attitude, rough and tough, rude to some extent, a dare devil type of a person with some emotional baggages that made them like this from their childhood...I am talking about the male lead of course. But once the story progresses and the guy meets the lead lady and when we see some flutterings in his heart and 'Love' is in the air we expect the male lead to change completely, why is that?
I see people writing here about how Asad shouldn't be rude and harsh to Zoya, shouldn't shout at her, be loving, caring etc etc...which is fine & to some extent even I want it but the point is can a person's basic characteristics or nature change? And if that is the nature we fell in love with then why should we expect a 180 degree change? I am not saying he should be ruthless to Zoya and be mean and abusive, No, absolutely not, but I am talking about his basic nature here.
We should expect a character to evolve, to grow, to feel the stirrings in his heart, to experience the emotion...yes but not completely change. Just like we don't expect Zoya to change, to become very wise and mature all of a sudden, to let go of her chirpy, bubbly, helpful and childish attitude similarly we shouldn't expect Asad to change his nature as well.
I am happy the CV's have shown a growth in Asad from what he was in beginning of the show to now and Zoya has rubbed her influence a lot in him, in fact I see more feelings in him than Zoya, she is yet to realize her own feelings but Asad is so much more understanding to Zoya now, he tolerates her blabber and outbursts so much more calmly than he did earlier, he is imagining a lot about her...so we are seeing a change in him gradually, his character is growing but we shouldn't expect a drastic change like his not correcting Zoya when its needed, not to stop Zoya from her adventures when its required, not to be direct and straight forward with her when its essential and not to shout at times when its urgently necessary under a particular circumstance. That is his nature and he will react that way, so we shouldn't criticise and judge him and take sides because of this trait. His basic nature won't change, that is his way of showing concern and love as well.
Same way I don't expect Zoya to change her ways of shouting at Asad, or barging in his room to give a piece of her mind, not to recite her crazy shayaris, be not helpful, be not impulsive...that is her basic nature and she will be like that always, no matter what! That is her character's USP and if that goes we won't be able to relate to Zoya. But she has also grown in her character, she is trying to understand Asad and his moods now, she wants his attention now...so both characters are evolving staying within their nature and I give a big round of applause to the CV's for this.
I never expect Mr. Darcy to change in P&P or else he wouldn't be my all time romantic hero and neither do I expect a change in Asad or else he won't have any appeal for me. Even if he shouts or screams at Zoya he should be doing it within his character's boundary and that is ok with me but yes if it is done without logic then it bothers me like the way he did after Tanveer was introduced. I couldn't relate to him then.
As I always say character consistency is very important to me and the CV's should be careful as to not to tamper with that but it is also our responsibility as an audience to take the show maturely and understanding the changes in the characters or comprehend the cause of their reactions on certain occasions and not take sides or judge them or being partial to any one. It is not about being a feminist or woman power!
I feel bad when I see 2 camps in the forum, one for Zoya and one for Asad, to me they are one team, I can't see or feel for one without the other, so don't take sides please. I am not saying don't criticise, of course we should do critical analysis but we should do it understanding the basic characteristics of the character and not expecting a drastic change in them.
This is my 2 cents, no intention of hurting or bashing anyone!
Love Asad and Zoya and love QH. I am happy that the CV's are doing such a splendid job and the solid grip they have on the characters, even as audience we sometimes falter but they have not. Thank you for that CV's.
