Chapter 25a
(Unedited!)
Asad made Zoya sit on the couch. Her room was dimly lit by the moonlight making its way through the open French windows and the blinds folded aside. There was music blaring somewhere near, probably a house in the vicinity had a mehndi function arranged. There was the loud thump of the drum and the very traditional mehndi songs. Both sat quite for a while.
"You are very selfish Mr. Khan." Zoya couldn't keep her feelings inside.
"I know..." Asad smiled.
She shook her head. She started but coudnt complete.
"I don't even know if i can complain or not..." She sighed, everything had made her tired.
"You can its your right."
His words were enought to make her smile, she felt light as the sorrows seemed to be drifting away.
"Then i don't want to..."
He took her hand in his and rubbed the tip of his thumb on the base of their engagement ring. The platinum studded with diamond sparkled vibrantly in the moonlight; just like a prison drop.
"Mr. Khan were you angry on..."
She trailed off. Asad knew she was talking about the night of their official engagement nd everything that followed.
"I was... and so i had to distance myself from you. I did not want to hurt you but i know i wasn't possible if i stayed around. Distancing myself from you made a lot of things clear for me..."
He paused to take a long look of her face and then made for the window. Zoya silently followed. He continued while staring at the dazzling moon amidst the cluster of the glowing night stars. Zoya stood behind quite close.
"But you were always there, in my mind, in my eyes, my thoughts, my days and my nights... i knew it was too late... too late to think of a life without you. I had lost myself to you and surprisingly i did not regret it. I realised i wanted you despite the strong rivalry and sheer animosity i have for Siddique."
He paused again a tear rolled down Zoya's face. At the moment she felt blessed to be in his life, to be blessed with his companionship. She felt pride over her talisman which made him hers.
"But all this took time to settle theose felings inside me, and when it did i had no complains...whatsoever."
Zoya cleared the fresh lie of tears cascading dwn her face.
"What did Allah see in me before making me a part of your life. You're an ideal..."
He faced her now; she beamed.
"That goes either way; we were two incomplete souls Almighty decided to unite..."
They were distracted by th beep of Zoya's cell phone. She picked it up to read the blinking message.
Take your time you two. The guard's on duty. Will signal in case of danger.'
It was Ayan, Zoya almost chuckled.
"Mr. Khan did you tell him?"
"Who?"
"Ayan...who else?"
"Ayan? No!"
"Then you might want to have a look at this..." She handed him the phone. He read the message and shhok his head in an approving smile.
"This boy can not change..."
"I think i love him"
"Not your fault; its something one cant help." He agreed.
Both chuckled and amidst the laughs Zoya felt her stomach growling.
"Mr. Khan i am super hungry... haven't eaten since noon."
"Hungry...at this time!" he checked his wrist watch. It was half past one in he morning. She nodded placing her hand on her growling tummy.

They sneaked out of the house and made it to Asad's Rover, parked around the street.
"So where ma'am?"
Zoya thought for a while something did click. She smiled sheepishly.
"somewhere with the spiciest of the dishes accompanied by loud desi music and at least a couple of hundreds of people..." She elaborated confusing Asad.
"Come on its so very late...what do you have to do with so many people.?"
"Mr. Khan you know i cant eat alone..."
He looked at her incredulously. The blaring music hitting his ears now banged hard on his mind.
"No! You are not doing this to me Miss Farooqi..."
Zoya smirked.
"Sorry love. But i am..."

"Just wait for the day you are my wife... the first thing i'll do is get you checked by a shrink...! you mostly seemed to have lost it" Asad mumbled uneasily peering at her.
"Mr. Khan you can relax. People wont bother to know who we are or which side we belong to..."
She acted as if solving one of his greatest troubles in the jiff of a second.
"You seemed to have a good practise of such adventures..." He said seeing her stuff a huge spoonful of rice in her mouth.
"Mention not..."
The function was at its peak with the dhool bajaz on fire and music blaring louder than an explosion.

Zoya was early that morning. It was a working day and everyone in the household was in the prep of leaving for work, college, kitty parties' etcetera etcetera. She was down at the breakfast table; Zoya wasn't any more uncomfortable. Alas people had finally started accepting her as a part of their family.
Ayan came running on the table and sat right next to her before anyone elso could pick the sport and winked at her; much to her surprise. She scrunched her brows for a second before recalling the incidents on the night before.
"What do you plan to do today Zoya?" Sid asked.
"Umm uh!" Zoya thought of her plans for the day.
"Oh she asked me to accompany her to the immigration office, some paper work their." Ayan intervened. Zoya looked at him in confusion.
"Whch paper work?" She whispered.
"You don't know?" he whispered back.
"Ayan!" She clenched her teeth.
"My bike needs some programming..." He coded.
She rolled her eyes.
"You don't forget. Do you?"
"Hardly!"
Humaira eyed them angrily. Zoya looked up at her across the table very involuntarily when she whacked the fork in her hand aggressively on her plate and got up.
"I am getting late for college." She said and left before one could mouth a word.
Zoya looked at Ayan who shuddered and started stuffing serial in his mouth.
