Chapter 12

Asad soon realised that searching for both Zoya and Tanveer at the same time was a really difficult task. But he had no other option than to continue his search in the darkness itself because he knew that the following day his Ammi would question him a lot about the two if he shows up all alone at home.

His eyelids started to stick together as he felt the urge to sleep overcome him while driving.

No! I can't just give up like this! Zoya! My Zoya. I have to find her! I really have to!

A determined Asad thought to himself as he clutched onto the steering wheel and drove on.

"Oh God, where is Zoya now.. "

One hour passed but still no Zoya or Tanveer in view. The night was slowly giving way to day which Asad soon realised and started to get worried about the fact that the two were still missing.

"What will I tell Ammi now? She will just break down.. She won't be able to bear such a shocking news! She really won't.. Ya Allah, please help me find Tanveer and My Zoya...", Asad prayed.

To ease his worries a bit, Asad switched on the radio, which clearly was of no use to him.

The volume being loud, Asad's phone, which was on vibration mode, went unnoticed as it kept on receiving missed calls from a private number.

15 minutes later

Fortunately, when realisation struck him, it was not too late. As he dialed the unknown number, the stranger on the other end started the conversation.

Stranger [Laughing evilly]: "Asad Ahmed Khan! What a surprise! Oh, I forgot.. I'm really sorry.. How are you buddy? ha ha ha.. I'm sure that you must be wondering who I am.. Okay..I feel that you've already got some hints but, my dost, it's not the time to introduce myself... hah.. Nevermind, I'll instead reveal to you the reason of my call.. "

Asad [Fuming with anger]: "Oh! Cut the crap! I know what type of person you are. You're just another dumb young teenager trying to seek attention by calling random people and playing stupid pranks on them. Don't you dare call on this number again! Got it?"

and Asad cut the call.

Some seconds later, Asad got a second call from the private number.

"What's his problem, man!" Asad thought to himself as he picked up his phone, determined to shut the annoying prankster up with his threats.

"What the hell is your problem, man? Can't you just leave me alone? Didn't I tell you not to call me again? For God's sake, stop all this crap! Please! You're seriously hitting on my nerves now!"

Stranger: "Relax Asad Ahmed Khan! Stop being so hyper.. Are you sure that you want me to cut the call? Okay, think well before you answer. Everything depends on you. Absolutely everything! Every decision you take or words you say. Now, it's up to you to decide whether you would like to regret your actions in the future or simply settle everything now itself."

Asad [confused] : "What do you mean by regretting my actions and settling everything alright? May I know who you are?"

Stranger: "Didn't you just tell me to cut this stupid call? Now, why are you so interested in knowing further about me and what I've said?

Asad: "Stop being so childish! I'm the least interested in you. Get that clear in your mind!"

Stranger: "Oh really..?"

Asad's anger reached its peak and he was about to cut the call when a familiar voice spoke on the phone.

"Mr...Mr...Kh...kha...Khan!? Mr..Kha...khan.. hel...help me... ple..please.. they'll kill mee... they.. they have kidnapped.. me! and.. and. they ha..have b..be..bea..beat" and the voice faded..

"ZO...ZOYA! Zoyaa! Where are you? Zo..Zoya? You there? Answer me! Did they beat you? Zoya?? Tell me! I'll break their bones! Who are they?"

Stranger [Back on the line]: "Arrey Mr Asad Ahmed Khan! Why are you so impatient?
ha ha ha...

[hypocritical way] that's sad.. The poor girl has not eaten anything since hours.. I feel pity for her.. Why don't you come over and bring some food for her? and some clothes also.. the ones on her are torn and look like rags to me.. It's not at all pleasing to the eyes. Please, get something new for her. haha. No. Seriously, I can't bear this anymore. Argh!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to your visit Mr Asad Ahmed Khan! HUH", then followed the evil laugh and the line got cut.

Asad clenched his fists in anger at the thought of Zoya's torn clothes, her starvation and the state in which she was in.

But he promised to bring his Zoya back no matter what. He'll fight everything coming his way.

"Ya Allah, support me in my mission. Let me win this time. Protect my Zoya. Let nothing bad befall her." Asad prayed as he set out on the lookout for Zoya with determination.
