2 years later.
"Abbu you don't have to do this. This house is yours and Ammi's. I'll leave if you want." Asad tried talking to his parents.
"Rashid, it's time for our flight. Zoya said she'll pick us up from the airport!" Dilshad interrupted the father-son conversation.
Dilshad gave one last glare to her son and walked out along with Rashid. Not even a salaam. Is that what he deserved?
2 years back when Asad and Zoya had separated without filing for a legal divorce yet, Asad had also lost his parents that day. He felt solely responsible for the disintegration of his valued family. His was a perfect one. Well, turns out not anymore!
"Asad? I've set dinner." Tanveer placed her hand on Asad's shoulder as he jerked it off harshly.
"I told you not to touch me, Tanveer."
"You can't talk to me that way Asad! I'm going to be your wife." She gave him a glare.
"In your dreams. I am already married to the most beautiful woman on earth. Don't think your tricks are going to work on me!"
"Tricks? Do you think that your child in my womb is a trick to have you?"
"Actually after all the misunderstandings you've created between me and my family, I don't think there could be any other reason!"
"You coward! First you left your wife for me and now you want to leave me because you think Zoya is your wife? Your heartless beast!" Tanveer cried.
Asad calmed down. She was right. He was the coward, he was the beast! If she had tried to get him under her spell, he had rightfully let her do so. He had readily become a target in her disgusting game plan. He had lost his parents, his values, his virtue and his wife.
He had met Tanveer in to four months of his marriage with Zoya. She was a beautiful girl with a great sense of style and wisdom. He wished he had met her before he met and married Zoya. Later he learned that even she was a widow. Her husband was no more. What he didn't know was how low a woman could steep to have money and power.
Tanveer being another con woman had successfully conned many men in the past. Her records were always clean and she never left a clue behind. A few months earlier she realized that she was coming of age and needed to finally settle down. That's when she met Asad Ahmed Khan and decided to make him her next and final target.
"Your right. I'm a coward. I don't deserve anybody. I will take care of you and this child because that's my responsibility. I would never turn away from my own child."
oOo
"Ammi!" Zoya waved out to Dilshad and Rashid as they came out of the Arrivals lounge. They looked at her smile. She was wearing a formal pair of jeans and a black woolen overcoat owing to the chilly weather of New York. She still looked so beautiful and mature.
"Mera baccha!" Dilshad hugged Zoya and began to tear up.
"Ammi bas. Please roiye mat!" Zoya said. She was way past that stage in her life now.
Dilshad and Rashid looked at her and smiled. They were proud of her today. They were proud of their daughter.
"Chaliye, the cab is waiting for us."
The three made their way towards the cab that Zoya had called for.
oOo
"Aap log pohonch gayye safely?" Asad inquired on getting a call from his father.
"Haan." Rashid said, being slightly aloof.
"Abbu I-" Before Asad could complete his sentence, he heard a voice in the background. Leaving him stunned.
"Abbu, dinner's ready. Chalein?" Zoya said.
"Yeah beta. I'll be there in a second." Rashid said and Zoya smiled, leaving the room.
"How's she?" Asad asked softly.
"She's better. Even more beautiful than I remember." Rashid said.
Asad gulped and remembered how beautiful she was. She had always been. Right from the time he saw her for the first time till now, her beauty and charm didn't fail to amaze him. She was an epitome of Mother Nature's tremendous creation. He wanted to ask his father so many questions about her! Whether she had moved on? Whether she had a husband or a child? What kind of work was she doing? But he stopped himself. It's none of his business and he doesn't deserve to know either.
"Allah hafiz." Rashid said softly and put the phone down, leaving Asad staring in to space.
oOo
At the dinner table, Rashid and Dilshad relished the meal cooked by their daughter-in-law. Biryani and Tandoor Chicken was their favorite! And their daughter-in-law knew that.
"The food is lovely, beta." Dilshad said to Zoya.
"Come on Ammi! Don't be so formal with me." Zoya said sweetly.
Dilshad smiled and beckoned Rashid to talk to Zoya regarding what she had told him. Rashid was closer to Zoya than anyone else. So he cleared his throat and began.
"Zoya?"
"Ji Abbu?" Zoya looked up.
"Beta, we were wondering if..ahhh.." Rashid fumbled.
"What is it Abbu?" Zoya frowned.
"Beta do you want to file for a legal divorce or do you want to come back home with us?" Rashid blurted out.
Zoya looked at Rashid amazed and said, "I haven't thought of it Abbu. Divorce? I mean it's a big step and Asad..I mean, does he want to divorce me?" Zoya said with a low voice.
"I've seen him cry for you Zoya. That's the reason I wanted you to see your options. I'm positive he misses you and I'm sure you do too. A little conversation and sorting out is all that it's ever going to take." Rashid explained it to her.
"We know it's hard beta. 2 years is not a small time. And you deserve much better than my worthless son. But please, being a mother I can't think bad for my son. Even though he's wrong. Think about it?" Dilshad pleaded Zoya.
"I will." Zoya said and resumed eating.
oOo
Zoya grabbed her body lotion and started putting it on herself, remembering her conversation with Dilshad and Rashid a while back on the dining table, when suddenly her phone buzzed. She frowned looking at the International number and saw that it's an Indian number. She pressed the green button and said, "Hello?"
When she didn't get an answer from the other side, she repeated, "Hello?"
"Hi." She froze, hearing his voice, after two whole years.
"Asad? Aap?" Zoya said.
"How are you?" He said softly.
"I'm..I'm good. And you?"
"Just how you left me. Broken and incomplete." Asad said softly.
They shared an awkward silence for a few minutes. Zoya didn't know how to respond to that. What did he mean by broken and incomplete? He was the one who told her that they should part ways. Why was he talking as though he still wished for her company?
"I'm coming there for a business deal tomorrow." Asad broke the silence.
Zoya's breath came short as she heard him. "Ummm..I-"
"I'd like to meet you sometime." He said apprehensively.
"I can't. I work two jobs and tomorrow is Monday." She said softly.
"What time are you free then?"
"I return really late at night. At around midnight so I don't-"
"Great. I'll get your address from Abbu. See you soon." Asad smiled and cut the phone.
Zoya looked at her phone agape. She didn't want to see his face. Damn it!
