A bright afternoon, with a soft breeze of the chilly winter welcomed the students of Rydel High with open arms after a 20 day vacation for Christmas and the New Years.
The place was turning warmer as the hours passed, and so did the atmosphere of the school as it filled in with the students' chatters, howls of laughter and music from all around.
The school had started late, since it was the first day after a vacation and wanted to keep the welcome just as warm and cozy as the holidays did.
Zoya Farooqui sat in the midst of a group, she had just met on the school grounds, while touring all by herself. Lola, a. k. a. Laila, a.k. a. the girl who accompanied Zoya in the small tour of hers, before meeting up with 'The' Gang of the school, sat beside her, laughing hard at the jokes cracked by Jason.. or was it Jacob?
Anyway, she smiled through it all, not able to make heads or tails out of the conversation that carried on in between these two so obviously attracted fools. She needed another cup of coffee before it killed her. It wasn't that she didn't like Lola or Jason/Jacob, but the two's secret looks and horrible flirting was annoying and getting her to the edge. She just wanted to shake the two to get some sense into their pretty little blonde heads. Yes. They were actually blonde and were acting all dumb, proving the saying that 'Blondes are Dumb'. [No offense to Blondes in any manner.]
She excused herself, at last, when she found the two too engrossed in God-Knows-What conversation, and strode to the counter, putting on her flirtatious smile and addressing the guy behind the counter.
Zoya: (placing her elbows on the high rise) Hey! Can I get another cup of coffee, please? (smiling sweetly)
Counter Guy: Yeah sure! (with a lop-sided grin)
He turned to get the styrofoam cup and poured the coffee and milk and stirred it.
Counter Guy: (pushing the plate of sugar packs a bit towards the girl in front) Here! (setting the cup on the counter and nodding at the group sitting behind her) How's it going?
Zoya: (taking 2 packs of sugar; looking up and turning to look at the group and back) Oh, well, so far it's okay.. (nodding in unsure manner and smiling)
Counter Guy: You're new here? (wiping his hands on the cloth hanging out his pocket) Haven't seen you here before!
Zoya: (stirring the cup with a small spoon and adding the last pack of sugar) You can say that.. It's been a week since I came here! (nodding once)
Counter Guy: (raising an eyebrow) Uh huh! Then how come I didn't see you in school for the past few days? (furrowing his eyebrows in seriousness)
Zoya: (smiling into the cup while sipping) Because school hadn't started! Duh! (raising an eyebrow in an obvious manner and walking back with a smile) Thanks!
The guy nodded his head and went back to serving the others, when his head snapped up at the sudden silence, that fell around the cafeteria.
"What the ****!!"
Zoya stared wide eyed, with her mouth hanging open, and body utterly still and on her toes, as she stared straight at a stark white shirt that had been coloured by a dirty brown. All thanks to the coffee that spilled over.
Her eyes travelled up the shirt and stopped to see a head looking up from where her eyes had just been, to stare furiously into her own browns.
She could see his dark blue eyes burning with anger, as she swallowed and blinked.
Zoya: (licking her lips, and blinking) I'm.. sorry? (whispering)
His jaw tightened, making Zoya suspicious that she may have heard his teeth gritting, but that was when she realised that the whole cafeteria had fallen silent.
She looked down into the styrofoam cup, to see any remnants of the coffee, but found it to be totally empty. It wasn't that hot, she thought, breathing in relief as she ruled out the possibility of having burnt a guy on the first day of her school. But still..., her eyes looked at the stark white shirt that had now become her canvas of design with coffee!
Zoya: (feeling very guilty, turning to get a few tissues off the counter) I am so, so, so sorry! (dabbing on the guy's neck and shirt) I'm--
Her words died right on her lips, when she felt his fingers wrap around her wrist and held it away from him. He wasn't looking at her, but somewhere on the floor, behind her. His tightening jaw said it all.
Zoya's eyebrows furrowed, when she saw his accusing glare settle on her face.
Guy: (in a dangerously low tone) Don't. Touch. Me.
And before Zoya could think of replying to him, she felt her hand jerk down very hard to her side, while her confused eyes followed his retreating back.

Asad felt through his locker in the boys locker room, and pulled out an olive green button-up shirt before putting it on and rolling the sleeves up to his elbows. Harsh breathing could be heard as he buttoned his shirt up, leaving the first button open.
This was so not how I wanted my New Year to begin with!, he though to himself, as he threw his favourite stark white shirt, that was now a dirty brown colour, all thanks to the girl at the cafeteria for doing the honours of spilling coffee on him, into his small duffel bag and shoved it back into his locker, before slamming it shut real hard.
Small droplets of water made way down his jet black hair to the back of his neck, irritating him, whilst his mind went back to the cafeteria scene. His face coloured slightly as he remembered how he had swore loudly in front of the whole school. He, who was a Nobody, and was known as the Good Boy (hence the Nobody Tag), who had never swore in his whole life, had broken his own record today. All just, because of that girl!
She looked new around here..
But that doesn't excuse her for spilling the whole cup of coffee down on you!
But it was an accident!
How do you know it was? How do know that it wasn't the girl's trick?
Oh great! Now am talking to myself!, he thought to himself, shaking his head in disbelief, before rushing out to his next class.
