Why Qubool Hai is different

So I was reading the post about the Novelty of 4 Lions shows and it got me thinking. After all, they say there are only 7 stories that can be told anyway, so it really is all about the presentation- and I must say that the presentation has been quite good so far! (And I apologize for how incoherent the following probably reads, I just wanted to share my thoughts)

Personally I think 4 Lions has been geting better with each show. With this one, even though we have the 4 Lions archetypes of moody hero with a past and bubbly heroine with hidden pain of her own, there are differences:

Asad: He is very polite and clearly cares about his family. He may be orthodox, but he isn't unnecessarily rude to anyone other than Zoya (and that's because she pushes his buttons). He knows how to smile and does so when he's around Ayaan and Tamatar.

Also, it's quite early now and Zoya more or less knows everything about his past already. On the other hand, Khushi had no idea about Arnav's mother until nearly the end of the show. So Asad really isn't a mystery, he's just really sad and buttoned up for reasons that Zoya already knows about. And she gets it, she does, but she still gets irritated by the way he judges her because she doesn't know that she's shaken up his world.

The difference here is that Asad doesn't know about Zoya's past, and that will be the big big gamechanger. And I honestly think they're going to seek it out together.

We do know this much: 4 Lions always creates jodis who have pasts that are intertwined. But whereas the pasts of the old shows would tear the couples apart (Khushi's mother indirectly causing Arnav's mother's suicide, Dev being Maan's brother and Geet's husband), whatever Zoya's past is- if it it really is connected to Ayaan's Mamujaan- will actually bring Asad and Ayaan together.

That's why I believe that Asad and Zoya are going to get together and then the past will be revealed, because Zoya is the connector here.

Zoya: She might be crazy and a "child woman", as someone else described her once on the forum, but she has a college degree, defends herself against goons as much as she cans, and gives as good as she gets. AND she makes her own choices. This is important.

I don't know how Geet and Khushi were at the beginning of their shows, but Zoya seems quite unique to me when it comes to women defending their own actions. She's shown as having a big imagination and getting carried away with it, but Zoya is not shown as stupid- just impulsive. I haven't seen Geet, but I watched IPKKND and even though I loved Arshi, it was defintiely obvious that Arnav had the upper hand when it came to mind games and Khushi handled him by messing with his emotions more so than meeting him mind to mind.

I don't see that with Zoya. She has a big heart and accepts what life throws her way, but she fights back with intelligence and guts whenever someone questions her. She doesn't do anything because someone tells her to, but because she has a personal reason for doing it (the falling star scene is a good example). She is fighting with Asad because he's fighting with her, but she has recognized his true self. What I really like is that it doesn't seem to affect her outwardly in away that changes her behavior on a macro level, but you can see in her microexpressions that they do. She's not pretending that nothing has changed, but she doesn't think it's worth DWELLING on.

It's not because she's bubbly, it's because she prioritizes. And right now, her priority is first to be nice to him, because he was unbelievably kind to her- so when he is mean to her, she gives it right back. When Zoya is yelling at him about being from the 17th century, she's just retreading old ground because she's not entirely sure how to relate to him anymore, so she's going back to what she's used to, just like him.

I feel like Mariam's presense in Asad's house is going to break this silly pretense of "kuch nahi hua" and force them to redefine their relationship again while they figure out how to help her.

Anyway, these are some of my thoughts! Share yours below :)

WORD.

You summed up everything I think in a nice little bow.

Zoya is NOT Khushi. And Zoya is NOT Geet.

Very nicely written! I also love the subtlety of their relationship. I haven't watched Geet, but in ipk Arshi had this scorching chemistry from the beginning. It's the emotion Khushi evoked in Arnav that really bothered Arnav, eventually that changed him. Here, the equation is very different. Their relationship is subtle, but it slowly gets under your skin. They are slowly building it up and I am loving it!!

I think people compare these shows because of the similarity in the execution of scenes rather than the story line or characterization.

But what people don't realise is that you can't patent a "trip- fall- catch" scene.

These scenes are generally done in all shows and it's silly to say they 'belong' to any one show.

If someone wants think..then it looks all same...
To me its same story on big plot...but its the treatment to mini mini mini micro scenes that makes it special..

no matter how many times we have seen love story...but it always..we look for newness, new couple...and of course without their brilliant acting its not unique love story..

I really admire Surbhi and Asad for doing justice to this roles and making it special for us

One thing I must say : in all 3 cases the lead pairs have amazing chemistry
Be it Maneet, Arshi or AsYa...all 3 jodis are tremendous

So for that I must say that 4 lions is doing a fantastic job...I haven't watched IPKKND completely, but I did watch Geet and now QH...and u are rite, all 3 of them have past intertwining and I am loving it...

But in Geet, the past made Maneet relation stronger after a small MU, so let's see what happens in QH
How Asad reacts if Mamu turns out to be Zoya's dad...

Wonderful post agreed. Zoya isn't Geet. Nor is she Khushi. Zoya is Zoya. Her bubbliness is because she's just a wonderful person at heart. And like Khushi treated Arnav horribly because he was kanjoos, Zoya knows how to handle herself and her equation with Asad. Don't get me wrong, I loved Khushi. But there was no depth in the sense that she just treated him like that because it was how he was. Zoya on the other hand treats Asad like how he deserves. He's nice to her, she'll treat him nicely. He's rude, she'll be rude right back. She is immature at times. But she's no child. She knows how to handle herself around others, and wants to have fun as well. And although sometimes her stubborn-ness annoyed the hell out of me at first, she's actually one of my favourite lady leads on television now.
