Chapter 11
Hey guys I m back with a next chapter

(Written by Shreya)

"Abhay! Abhay, can hear me?" called out Pia frantically as she reachd the forest. Abhay remained untraceable.

She closed her eyes, focusing only on finding his scent.

Pia opened her eyes, there was a faint trail'to the west. She hesitated; having never been to that part of the forest before. Then coming to a decision, she gritted her teeth and pushed away a branch that was in her way. She was going to get Abhay out of there or die trying.

She called out his name again and again, but there was no answer. Twice she found his trail, but it seemed to have vanished into thin air. Had she been mistaken? Pia felt a sudden cold thrill run down her spine. The trees grew close to each other here, and the forest was almost devoid of light. It felt like night. She shivered.

"Abhay?" she called again, but her words were lost in the wind.

And then something made Pia gasp in real, unadulterated terror. Five pairs of golden-yellow eyes blinked back at her, and they were accompanied by huge hairy bodies resembling''

"Werewolves," thought Pia in horror. She turned to move backwards. And then she realized, that she was completely and totally done for. They'd enclosed her in a circle, and she knew they weren't ordinary, harmless wolves; she kicked herself for walking into a trap with no regard for the consequences. If only she'd concentrated more on her surroundings'..

She didn't dare use a spell to free herself. It would be suicidial; Pia knew who'd sent them, and she was praying that she could fool them into believing she was a human. A normal, average human.

She backed up against a tree, determined not to use her powers unless she had to. The wolves began edging closer; making the circle smaller and smaller. She resisted the urge to scream: If Abhay was here, she wasn't about to put his life in danger as well as her own.

They'd stopped moving now, and Pia realized they were waiting for her to strike first. She gritted her teeth- she wouldn't give them the satisfaction.

And finally , they got tired of the waiting game. Without warning, a wolf jumped at her : unprepared for this, Pia could only shut her eyes and wait for the impact. It didn't come''.

She opened her eyes. Someone was standing in front of her, someone between her and the wolves, a very familiar someone who hadn't left her thoughts since the moment she'd followed him into the forest. Abhay was back.

She felt many emotions at once: fear, that he would get hurt; anger, that he should treat his safety so lightly, and relief that he was- as yet- all right.

She watched in wary fascination as he fought with the werewolf, finally managing to make it fall to the ground. And suddenly, she noticed the increased number of werewolves, as though they'd gone from a dozen to about a fifty.

And Abhay was fighting nearly ten at once: it didn't seem fair, no, she just had to help, had to-

"No!" she screamed. One of them had aimed a silverfish pointy object at Abhay, it hit his chest, right above the heart. And everything left Pia's mind, except the thought that Abhay had got hurt for her.

He dropped to the floor, and the wolves went for him ' only to be stopped a foot away from him by an invisible force that sent them all sprawling ten feet into the distance.

Pia watched in satisfaction as they all fled the scene. She bent next to Abhay.

"Abhay, can you speak to me?" she asked frantically. "Where are your car keys, can you give them to me?" She was trying to sound coldly casual.

"Yes'" he gasped, and then his whole body jerked. "What- why'"

"Your keys, Abhay!" said Pia, now bordering on hysteria. If she couldn't save him'..No she wouldn't think that, she wouldn't.

"In my' jeans pocket'" he managed to speak out.

Pia managed to get the keys out after some difficulty. Then- rather to Abhay's surprise, for he was still conscious, she slung him over her shoulder and flew..

He thought she'd been pretty fast when the reached the outskirts of the forest in seconds.

She spotted his car; moving faster than he'd have credited her for being, she'd unlocked it; helped him sit in the passenger seat, strapped the seat belt on him, and got in at the driver's side.

"Is it- poison?" he asked suddenly.

Pia looked at him. "The worst." She wouldn't speak more, but started the car up with a screech, and started driving how a normal human would term, "Extremely rashly."

No, scratch that, even Anvesha would call it that. Wait a minute- why wasn't Pia yelling at him, like she'd always done? Abhay felt his vision start to swim.

Abhay

A screech of tyres : They's reached his house.

Pia came over to him. "Can you walk?" she muttered, looking him over .

Abhay hated the terror in her eyes. "Yeah, absolutely."

She tutted, but made no comment, other than to hook an arm around him and help him to his feet. She got the servants to open the door surprisingly fast, and then half-carried him over a flight of stairs, till he pointed out his room to her.

She helped him lie down, then abruptly went and closed the door to his room.

A minute later, she was nearly on top of him, looking down at his injury.

Her head went up, and she cast her eyes about, obviously looking for something. Then, Abhay heard a ripping noise. She'd taken the knife near the artistically-arranged fruits bowl and torn his shirt with it. Before he had time to think, she'd torn it off completely, leaving him dazed, spluttering- and embarrased.

"Shut up, I'm trying to save your life, not checking you out," hissed Pia, trying very hard to stop the blush from spreading. She caught hold of the silver dart, and pulled it out in one swift motion, ignoring Abhay's grimace of pain.

Dark green liquid spilled out of the wound, and became smoke as it met the air. Pia leaned close to it, and then Abhay heard her say a word he'd never have used in front of a lady.

She got up abruptly, looking at him. "Did- did I bring my bag?" she demanded, but her voice was shaking. "No- you were helping me- I think," he mumbled back.

He heard Pia suck in breath. Then, he felt fire on his skin as her mouth touched his chest.

A litle later, she raised her head and spat something out into a goblet. Again and again she did it, till finally she raised her head and looked into his eyes.

Abhay was suddenly conscious that the white-hot pain was ebbing away, which meant''Pia had just-saved his life. He tried to sit up, but couldn't.

"Here" came Pia's voice. She was holding out a wrist to him'..covered in blood. His eyes widened , lingering on the knife in her other hand, which bore the testimony to the fact that she'd just slashed her wrist.

"Drink," said Pia softly, holding it to his lips. "It'll help'trust me."

He lowered his fangs onto her wrist, tasting her blood. It was intoxicating, her blood, unlike any he'd ever tasted before. He drank it, noting how it seemed to fill him with energy''until he noticed how Pia's eyes were drooping.

He let her go at once, running his toungue over it to heal the cut.

"Pia?" he asked, looking at her . She seemed'.lethargic.Blank.

He shook her by the shoulders. "Pia!" he whispered again, suddenly having an awful premonition.

Pia's eyes snapped open. "Oh," she said dreamily. "How are you now?"

"You tell me," he growled at her. "What's happened to you?"

Pia smiled. "Nothing," she said, getting off the bed slowly.

"Just exhausted. I should leave'."

He caught her by the shoulders and pulled her against her chest. Pia stared at him, her mouth opened and closed as if she wanted to speak.

He watched in horror : what was happening?

She spoke finally, her intonations slurred.

"Sorr-iee," she said at last. "I mean- I was-'.bad to you. Ver-y-ba'ad. Will- you forgive me?"

She seemed childlike, innocent, then. And she was also gasping after every word.

"Pia!" he said again. "Pia-look at me, please'"

" Angelus blood mixed with werewolf blood," mumbled Pia softly. "It would have killed you. But.." she gave a light giggle, "I didn't let it'And now I'm going to be killed. Oh hahaahhaa'"

Abhay froze in horror. "No," he breathed.

Taking the now-forgotten knife, he used it make an incision on his wrist, and offering it to Pia. She pushed it away.

"No'.." she whispered. "Yu're still weak'I mustn't'"

Abhay gripped her chin with his right hand, and then placed his wrist, the blood touching her lips. Her lips parted, and she sighed, but muttered, "No'.wrong'."

"Pia, please," he whispered, "Don't do this to me. Please'..for me. It won't hurt me'Please."

Pia drank little sips at first, and then he felt her take more and more. His free hand entwined in her hair in relief that he might-just 'win this battle yet.

She pulled away at last, her eyes wide, looking at him in bewilderment.

Pia felt her drowsiness vanishing with the blood she drank, till finally her head cleared and she realized the horror of the situation. She was drinking his blood, a vampire's blood.

She stared at him in shock and then felt heat flood her cheeks as she realised she was now on top of his bare chest, her face centimetres from his.

Scrambling up, she glared at him, but hardly had she opened her mouth to speak, when Abhay spoke first.

"Don't you yell at me!"

"I wasn't," began Pia.

"Liar," he retorted.

Pia laughed. She laughed as she had never laughed for a long time. Abhay listened in silence, grateful to the gods that she was in a good mood, but he wondered why.

At long last, she stopped laughing and said, "Sorry. I was going to yell at you- because giving your blood to me wasn't the brightest thing you did, it could've seriously harmed.."

"Oh, shut up," he snapped. "If I hadn't you'd be dead. Can you be grateful for once?"

Pia sighed.

"It shouldn't have come to that," she said, running a hand through her hair. "I had the antidote in my bag, if only I hadn't forgotten'." After a pause, she said, "Thanks for- you know, saving my life and all that."

"Ditto," he replied, and Pia grinned back at him.

"How did you know what it was?" he asked her, propped up on an elbow. "I mean'the poison'."

"Because I know more than you," she replied after a heartbeat. Seeing his disappointed face, she said, "Look- I'm sorry. It's just- I don't want you to know too much about me. It'll endanger your life'at least, whatever's left of it. And what were you thinking attacking those wolves?"

"Saving your life," he retorted.

She let out a breath. "And did you see how the wolves increased all of a sudden? That was creepy, that was."

"Yeah," he replied, sounding weary. "That was my fault."

Pia raised an eyebrow. "How, exactly?"

He shrugged and didn't reply.

Pia looked at him : she'd never seen him so 'reticent. It was weird.

"Abhay?" she asked again. "I'd rather not'say'" he said at last.

"Please, Abhay? Can we not be friends again?"

Abhay gave a small laugh. "I never said we couldn't, you always had a problem with that. Anyway, why should I trust you with my secrets when you clearly don't trust me with yours?"

Pia frowned. Then she said, "Fine. What do you want to know about me? I'm giving you three questions to ask. But mind you- I'm not promising to answer all of them."

Abhay rolled his yes at the last line. "What are you?"

"Sorry, that's way above my head," she replied almost at once, sounding regretful.

"Are you really going out with Dhruv?"

Pia looked at him with a touvh of irritation. "It's none of your business if we are," she told him. "Last question?"

"That'explosion I saw in your memory'." Abhay began, and Pia tensed. "What was that?"

Pia sighed. "An accident of my making that killed two of my best friends."

"What?"

Pia nodded. "What you saw- was Dhruv holding me back. He wouldn't let me go to save them'He wouldn't'" her voice broke and she turned away, blinking fiercely.

Abhay waited in silence. "I killed them'it was my fault.." she whispered.

She felt his hand close over hers, enclosing it in his warmth.

"My turn," she said at last.

"Fire away."

"What connection is it with you and those wolves?"

Abhay closed his eyes. "Because, I killed my best friend too," he said at length.

"And not like you. I staked him. I had to, but even so, I couldn't'.save her'"

"What?"

"Oh yeah," he continued. "Because my best friend turned out to be a traitorous louse ." After a pause, he continued, "He was also a werewolf'the leader of the clan, as a matter of fact. So'.I guess you know why they hate me."

He said it in a matter of fact tone, but Pia could sense the hurt that raged inside him, like a storm.

She looked at him and then on an impulse, said, "You oughtn't to hide your feelings from me. I can sense them anyway."

"Excuse me? You've been looking into my mind?"

"No, I'm not you," sniffed Pia. "I just get'.a sense of what you're feeling, like now'Who was that you wanted to save?"

"Pia, please, I'd rather not'"

"Oh, all right, I won't force you."

Pia looked at Abhay, and all of a sudden it hit her how very much he was like her.

Her eyes moved down his face , over the toned chest, as a flush covered her cheeks.

"Like what you see?" said a voice. Pia caught herself; had she just been checking him out?

She scowled at his smirking face. "Shut up," she snapped. "I was looking at your injury. You'd better lie down till evening, I'm leaving for the college. I'll come in the evening, with my notes- we've both missed a lot today."

As she got up to leave, Abhay's voice stopped her. "So- are we friends?"

"I guess," replied Pia, looking suddenly serious. "But you'll regret this yet, Abhay. Everyone who's close to me'. Gets hurt thanks to me. But'anyway, I can't not be your friend. Not after today. Take care , Abhay."

She had almost left, but paused in the doorway. "And Abhay? It wasn't your fault you couldn't save her."
