Television stars Madhura Nair and Roshani Shetty recently disproved the theory that an actor is only an actor.
The duo, who play pivotal roles in Balaji's daily show Pyar Ki Ek Kahani were recently part of the prestigious Volkswagen Polo Cup in Chennai.
Given the tough schedules of daily soaps, it's a wonder that they could have taken the time out. "It wasn't easy for us," says Madhura.
"I've been shooting from 9 am to 9 pm for many months, there was no time to get away from the hectic schedule," she recalls.
However, she requested producer Ekta Kapoor who made the required changes for Madhura to participate in the race.
"I've been driving for a very long time and I love speed. I knew that I had it in me to take my love for speed a step ahead. Thankfully, I used it constructively."
Her friend and co-star Roshani shares the same passion. "We work in the same show but it wasn't really a joint decision to participate in the race. Madhura has raced on the National level. But it was a first for me."
About the details of the race Roshani says, "I'd applied for the race after Madhura told me about her application. Fortunately, we both got selected. The criterion to get selected was a combination of time and speed. Even one second can make a difference."
Madhura, however, knows that she will miss out a lot on racing given the pressures and deadlines of her profession.
"Barring the one small track in Powai, Mumbai doesn't have any good tracks. The best ones are in Chennai and Coimbatore. I'm told Delhi too has a great track. But our schedules are so packed that we cannot afford to go out of town very often. Thus we miss out on a lot of opportunities."
"I'm extremely keen on going for the F1 race in Delhi. I might apply for it but chances are that I might have to give it a miss."
But this is a choice that the girls have made and acting remains their passion. Roshani says, "I might do other stuff for a lark. But acting will always remain my priority. I regret missing out on the F1 race but I'm sure something better will come up soon."
As of now both Roshani and Madhura are busy with their show on Star One but both are on the lookout for chances to get behind the wheel whenever their schedules allow.
