Analyzing the Ekta Kapoor Technique

Honestly,
Everytime Ekta ji is part of a serial, the beginnings are really nice, and the story line gives hope. Usually, these serials turn out to be a concrete concept; however, somewhere in the middle, the climax is gut-wrenching. This practical technique used to work, at least for the earlier serials, but now, its very predictable. As an example, "Kkusum" used to be on of my favorite serials, and I was about ten years of age when it began. It went quite well, until the plot dragged on for a while. I remember turning into a teenager, witnessing the many marriages, breakups, malicious plots, etc. That was from early 2001, and ever since, I suppose we should all become accustomed to these changes. I am only using "Kkusum" as an example, for it is the very first Ekta Kapoor serial engraved within my memory. What I believe I am growing tired of are these time consuming, aggravating, and extremely predictable plot lines. I was really happy with PKB, and I still try to remain a positive outlook, hoping that the misunderstandings will clear up. I wish that for once, the creatives would prepare a clean slate, a realistic concept, which this can be (the separation of siblings, due to circumstances), and of course the magic of love, and how unpredictable it is. I was really happy when the creatives brought together the pairs of Raunak and Araina, as well as Shashank and Prateeksha. This pairing shows how love is not bound to any such stereotype, class structure: it is a mobile sentiment. There were many times, before Suhani's death, in which I wished Aziz would not exploit, but respectfully announce the relationship between Prateeksha and Shashank. This would be courageous, realistic, and inspiring for those in reality, who have such relationships and often conceal them. Having done this, perhaps, the death of Suhani could have been prevented, Raunak's departure avoided, and Araina's six months of life productive. Yes, perhaps there would have been acceptance problems, but there would have been support and a feeling of respect towards the concept of love. Prateeksha and Shashank could have accentuated the power of such a bond, the purity, and strength of it. It is also true that most Balaji telefilms have a dramatically different approach of projecting the strength of love and endearment, but folks, the times are changing, and so are the people.
