I have mostly copied and pasted my PM reactions after I read chapter 2 & 3 previously; except towards the end. 😛 I bold the part I added so you don't have to read the whole review again.
At first glance Yash appears to be cold, unfeeling, arrogant, controlling, and demanding! It's very easy to believe him to be just that if one does not look between the lines at the very subtle hints. Yes he is very particular about things, and you have retained his perfectionist, and serious traits from the show. But he is saintly with devilish traits. Sure his mother spoiled him, and he is accustomed to getting his way, that's one big flaw. He only wants things done his way, he does not compromise. His arrogance also doesn't allow for critiquing, much less criticism. When he wants something, he goes for it.
The questions begs to be asked. Why does Yash make a move on Aarti during their engagement? He demands and forces her into a kiss, she is scared witless and shocked. But then his gentle side comes out when he realizes just why she responds the way she does. That second kiss gives Aarti a bit of hope that maybe he will be gentle with her in future. But how he talks to her makes her fear of him turning out to be like her father.
Aarti soon realizes she landed into the exact hell like her previous one. Where her MIL is concerned. But her husband seems satisfied with her in one department at least. Still a part of her yearns for more than just the physical from her life partner. But is not approachable in anyway safe the physical. She is afraid and is unable to voice her wishes, he makes it worse by insulting her. Then still things worsen as he starts shouting at her, his behaviour is very confusing...
That's where the between the lines comes in. Yash is in love with his wife but only shows her through the physical. He keeps her busy in the afternoon to lessen her housework, and lets her rest at night. But when he notices how much weight she lost even with his efforts, he loses it. But knowing his mother, he takes a different approach. His seeming flattery of G3 and asking her to cook is really a ploy to give Aarti and Vidhi a rest, so is his seeming dislike of how Aarti does his laundry.
But Aarti catches him at a stressed moment, hating the criticism, he insults her. But he must feel guilty and does not touch her. Then he makes love to her extra hard as a way of apologizing, trying to soothe that ache in the only form he allows himself, especially when he treats her so horridly in front of all. He knows those taunts hurt her but it's the only way he can safe her from hard labour for now. How long will Aarti endure it all? And when he could independently start a company, why does he put up with his mother's tyranny? He just like Aarti, does it for Vidhi, does it for Vedika.
He knows life will be worse for that little girl if he leaves, his spineless cheating brother will never stand up to his mother. He could do nothing for Vidhi before, but with Aarti there, he can help her too...
But cracks are slowly appearing in G3's well-formed plan. It will be too late when she wakes up and loses the family she thought she was keeping together. But the hag deserves it (excuse my french but I hate her). Imposing rules on her daughters-in-law that she does not follow, mistreating a little girl when as an only child, and girl she was so pampered.
But her father made her very bitter. Regardless of how he pampered her, he still left the business to her husband. Showed her that at the end of the day, she was just a girl, her identity tied to her husband. She could not control that, so she controls what she can and makes her family miserable. Having gotten only sons is a source of pride for her, she therefore spoils said sons. But she loathes her husband. He was a middle class bum, but got to inherit what was rightfully hers. More than that fact, she knows that he does not love her, and it increases her bitterness. She never outgrew her bratty tendencies, they just increased with age. Now she is a downright dictator! SMH!
I feel Prateek deliberately played music so Aarti would expose herself; she never can contain herself when she loses herself in music. And now the vultures reacted so violently because she danced? W*F! Seriously? They never loved her for her, she was just an extension of their own identity, and when she did something which they apparently disapprove of, they so easily cut ties with her?
But finally Aarti snaps! About damn time too! For years she had been suppressing her identity, trying to conform to the dictates of her unfeeling parents. Trying to apologize for being born female as if that was her fault. Like a possession she is shifted from one family to the next and has to keep conforming the dictates of her tyrant of a saas. At what point is enough really enough? She had to snap because she was stretched beyond reason, and it was exhausting to keep it all inside.
I actually gave a dry laugh at G3 telling Yash to control his wife and punish her. Is she a child that needs reprimanding, simply for speaking her own damn mind? She is a grown woman who can perfectly reason for herself, and has the freedom to decide what she likes and does not. But she is a woman whom hitherto did not know her own power. She was not aware that she can very well assert herself and the world would not fall apart if she did. And she finally did.
Speaking of G3 again. It boggles the mind that she expects her bahus to be subservient to their husbands when she herself never was. She does just as she pleases in that house, and makes everyone except for Pankaj absolutely miserable. She mistreats her bahus and granddaughter for being female yet expects to be respected. Her mind really is a curious thing! But then again, I suppose her parents made her despise her own sex and she herself is a victim of societal beliefs and prejudices. Makes you want to pity her, but she is such a witch that I fall short of doing so.
So Aarti is hanging in the balance between ultimate freedom, and lifelong enslavement. She has taken the first step of actually tilting that balance towards freedom, but something holds her back. Yash! From the onset, poor Aarti is confused by her darling husband's conduct. And even at the point of her liberation, he still confuses her. His overt actions tell her one story but there is a difference in his touch, and in his gaze, and in the way he had been making love to her. That is the reason why she needs actual proof before she chooses to really move on. But I am sure doubt still lingers in her mind.
I suppose she would not be Aarti if she did not try and apologize to her undeserving family. But now that she realizes they had all seemingly severed ties with her, it makes it easier for her to move on. Now she can carve out an identity for herself that is distinct from what she had been subjected to. Now her talents will define who she is and she will steadily grow strong with each step that she will take. Before she can think of love again, she has to learn to believe in herself; the girl who could so easily stand up for others has to realize that she is worth standing up for too. It is only a bonus that she is in a loving environment for a change.
Beautiful story like always Didu! ⭐️ 👏 You are dealing with a very universal issue with due sensitivity and a superb execution. And I am so happy I do not have to demand for updates for this one! 😆
