Chapter 11

An excited Aarti woke up early today, it was the first day of school, a new experience for her, a new place, new people hopefully new friends she was both excited, and nervous; she ran to the window to watch the first morning light, hear the birds chirp, and sing welcoming the new day, this was one of her favorite time of the day the promise of hope, wishes that maybe fill in this new day. Aarti wanted to go outside and play with the birds, and butterflies; she looked towards Mansi's bed she was fast asleep smiling to herself she quite while leaving the room; climbing down the stairs Dadi saw her and smile she knew how much Aarti loves the garden having seen her sneek outside on two previous mornings. " Aarti beta namaste how are you this morning?" a startled Aarti just stood still on the stairs shocked, and confused that she was caught, she remained quite for some seconds finally finding her voice" Namaste Dadi ji, I am OK" " Where are you going in a hurry beta, not running away from home now?" dadi said in a mock stern voice " NO dadi I wanted to go to the garden." answered "May I go Please " continued Aarti witha sweet baby voice, and a cute puppy eyes which showed her longing for the outdoors. Dadi smile back " May I accompany You beta?" Aarti was surprise no one ever asked to spend time with her outdoors in the garden before, never here or at the orphanage." Yes dadi I love that" said Aarti with pure excitement in her eyes. Dadi enjoyed her time with the happy child who informed her about her favorite flowers, trees, the birds, she watched Aarti chase the butterflies. " Aarti beta time to go inside you have to get ready for school." she extended her hand to the little girl who happily took her hand.

" Betas come lets pray before you leave for school today is a special day Aarti's first day in a new school." said Dadaji The entire family went and offered prays for the day to be successful, after the children took blessing from the adults; both mas went with them to school. Mansi went to her classroom while Aarti accompained her mas to the principal office to complete the formalities, the principal took an anxious Aarti to her classroom and introduced her. Aarti's self talk thank god Mansi di is in this class and they shared a small smile, "you can sit over there next to Mansi" said the teacher Aarti self talk she looks kind I hope she will not scold or beat me like my last teacher.

When break time came Mansi took Aarti outside she introduced her to another girl named Sunita who was a good friend of Mansi, both girls took an instant liking towards each other. Aman came to check on his sisters and inquire about their morning, he told them he will be back lunch time and left.

Lunch time came the three girls sat together Aman came to have his lunch with them, and to their surprise both Yash, and Prateek also came and joined the group. " Hello may we sit with you all for lunch?" asked Yash with a smiling Prateek at his side. " Yes come" invited Aman Prateek sat near Aarti "Aarti didi did you like your teacher? Is she nice? Did she scold you?" " Yes she is nice, no I did not get scolded." replied Aarti. Yash was quiet he looked, and listen to his friend Aarti. Prateek continued "I like having lunch with you may i continue every day Aarti didi?" "Yes you can but don't you want to spend time with your friends" asked Aarti " I will play with them after I eat with you would you like to meet her she is naughty like me." he continued. Aarti "You only have one friend a girl ?" she asked "No i Have Many but she is my best friend" reply Prateek with a smile. Now Yash liked the idea of having lunch everyday wit Aarti it mattered not that there are other children present he was happy to just watch and listen to the conversation. Aman asked Yash "Yash do you want to play a quick game of cricket with my friends and I " Yash did not want to leave Aarti side but he also did not want to be rude to Amam who was honest in his offer "Yes I will Aman Thanks for asking" he said with a smile.

The rest of the week passed like that with the kids meeting for break, and lunch; and waving goodbye to each other at the end of the school day, their friendships were growing slowly.

Weekends were fun times The families decided that both the families shall spend the Saturday at the country club. They wanted the kids to play tennis together, Aarti was learning her chote ma was teaching her, when Yash saw her pratcing he volunteer to help Aarti; they had fun with Aarti, and Yash both getting angry when she missed the ball, with Prateek teasing and mimicking them, Mansi constant complaining of its to hot want to go inside. Aman was getting fed up he wanted to play with Yash they had become good friends this past week, finally taking the complaining Mansi together with Aarti inside where the dadis and dadjis were. returning to play with Yash, naughty Prateek stayed with his new didi all set to tease them.

Everything continued like this, school lunch/ break meetings, weekends outings to the temple, stables or country club for the next few weeks; Aarti was getting better with her horse back riding, and her tennis but she still loved hockey which both Aman and her played on evenings with either one of the available papas. An invite from the Scindhias to attend Yash's twelve years birthday party, it will be held at their home a grand celebration was planned. Aarti's birthday was also coming up in that month and the Sharmas also planned a grand celerbration for her ninth birthday.
