- Things you like in Punar Vivah The intricacy of the writing as well as overall presentation/execution of the show; the way the show tackles social issues, prejudices, and a balance between tradition and modernity without being overbearing on the audiences; the ensemble cast (most of the performances anyway) and the importance of "secondary" and "tertiary" characters; the character development and portrayals of the lead protagonists
- Things you don't like in Punar Vivah Tough one, LOL! Sometimes the editing of the music is abrupt; Prashant and Ishita stuck around for way too long (too long for me, at least); a few of the secondary characters besides the obvious antagonists...
- Mention 5 positive things about PV forum The friendliness of the people here; posts are generally received with respect and sensitivity; appreciation of actors often goes beyond superficial aspects; the abundance of wonderful writers, analytical and creative; and the biggest thing: there are no fan wars as far as I can see!
- Mention 5 negative things about PV forum I'm just going to keep those to myself...😊
- 5 things you love about Gurmeet His respectful and soft-spoken manner; the fact that he took up PV-ZMD pretty much immediately instead of opting for taking a break for a while; I can see how sincere and selective he is toward his projects - fiction and nonfiction; his sense of humor; I adore his sensitive portrayal of Yash...enough said.
- Things you don't like in Gurmeet Hmm. Not something I dislike, per se...But his sarcasm always takes me by surprise. Oh, and when he is bitingly sarcastic on-screen (as Yash) it is rather scary... (Appearance-wise: I don't like when he gels his hair back completely...or when he has too much stubble...)
- 5 things you love about Kratika She has a fantastic sense of humor but can be really serious when she feels strongly about something and wants to make her point clear; her face and body are extremely expressive; she looks for projects that will help her truly grow as an artist; her unwavering positivity, humility and honesty; her touching portrayal of Aarti...thank God she was finalized!
- Things you don't like in Kratika Hmm... again. She has completely, completely spoiled me with her expressive power and control of her body. I love her immensely for that, but it also makes life and film/TV-watching so much harder, so...*sigh*
- Suppose you are a journalist, questions you want to ask Gurmeet How would you describe your progression as an actor/artist from your first show until now? What has each role/show given you? Which roles were easiest/hardest to play, and why? How do you approach playing a fictional character, and how do you adjust to different directors and co-actors, rehearsal-wise? If the Mittals were to produce films as well as shows, would you audition for a few if you liked the roles or if they asked you to audition? Distinctive things/experiences (acting and fun moments) you will remember about acting with each of your previous co-actresses?
- Questions you want to ask Kratika Same as above, except the last question would be asking Kratika about her co-actors, obviously!
- Your dream role for Gurmeet Lots? I really don't know, he's so good at subtle expression that I would hate to see him playing something that doesn't tap into that, especially after seeing him in PV!
- Your dream role for Kratika Too many ideas, haha. If you had asked me to name story scenarios for Gurmeet-Kratika, this would've been easier, but I'm keeping these ideas to myself 😛
- 5 positive things about you I'm always trying to find ways to stay positive when things aren't looking too sunny; I am sincere when it comes to work (a bit too meticulous, I suppose); I don't mind solitude; I'm not opposed to socializing when I am comfortable with the people around me; I am optimistically pessimistic 😛
- 5 negative things about you My handwriting is really small; I do not do well under pressure; a lot of the things for #13 could be negative, depending on the viewer's POV...
- On a scale of 1-10
a) how weird are you? 5: I think everyone is "weird" in certain ways; "weird" is a very vague term...
b) how social are you? 5: Depends on the people around me. I used to be painfully shy...
c) how funny are you? 1: I am usually the one who laughs, not the one making people laugh...unless I'm saying field-related puns. That is always fun.
d) how sensitive are you? 6-7: Generally not volatile, but sensitive nonetheless.
e) how egoistic are you? Uhhh...4...? Ask my family and friends...Ask my IF friends, actually. They might be able to say something.
f) how lovable are you? 6-7: If people kept describing me with one nice 4-letter word consistently, I guess that means something...
For Borna- Write about the growth of kratika as an actor.
Mitul! No. I am not writing an essay here! Brief outline. Ignoring a few cameo appearances...Not-so-brief outline.
1) 2007. Sanchi: "Excuse me?" *retake 13* "Excuse me?" (Kratika: Can I be invisible? Please? What the hell am I doing here?!)
[Me: Wow, she has come a long way since then! But even then, she was better than the girl who replaced her before Anita H. came in and permanently became Sanchi while Kratika went on to become P2.]
2) 2007-2008. Prerna Junior aka P2: "Kyunki...meri Naani ka naam bhi Prerna hai!"
[Me: Awww. Can't even see her face for the first 10 minutes, but her dialogue delivery is so much better already! The only reason I could sit through this first episode...*later* I can see traces of "Aarti" in P2 in a lot of these episodes...And she is so much better than her "generation" of co-actors.]
3) 2007-2008. Naina: ...*gasps for breath, struggling to say her killer's name*
[Me: She is making me cry. Just like I did when I saw her death scene in JKR before I saw anything else she had acted in. God, this is terrible. Each intake of breath, each sound is different. How is she SO good?!]
4) 2008. Sugandhi: "Mera SIR, Baa! Aate ki dibbi uthaane nikli thi, haath mein toh aaye nahi, poore sir pe gir gayi."
[Me: Ahahahaha, she is too cute! The only clumsy, salwaar-clad, talkative female character I have taken an instant liking to in my entire life. If I didn't know it was Kratika, even then I would've liked her, because the voice modulation, the expressions - it is all subtler than I would have expected for such a character and it's actually endearing! Plus...Acting with Shweta T., Ronit Roy, Smriti I., Hiten T...all in rapid succession, managing to not fall flat in front of them (unlike her other young co-actors) is a major feat that probably helped her because she was receptive. What else explains the variation and improvement in her mannerisms? Each character has a personality and she shapes that personality.]
5) 2010. Chitra: "Mujhe toh jalne ki badboo aa rahi hai...Kahin tumhara hi dil toh nahi jal raha?"
[Me: Chitra - a snobby actress? Maybe, maybe not. An enigmatic personality, for sure. And she made me smile many, many times throughout this episode...The only reason I managed to sit through the 2-part story was because of Chitra and Kratika's acting.]
6) 2010-2011. Manu/Rani Laxmibai: "Humaare seene mein nahi...toh aap sab ke seene mein sahi. Ho kahin bhi kranti...Bas...Woh aag jalni chahiye...Jalti rehni chahiye..."
[Me: She looks from Sameer to the camera, and as she does so, the tenderness in Laxmibai's expression is gradually replaced with a stern intensity and passion...Incredible aura, incredible transitions...Such power in her demeanor. JKR was monumental for her as an actor, as an artist in search of versatility. Radiant and regal, loving and fierce. All this, and everything in between, portrayed with restraint and passion. Paradox? Maybe. But she lives that paradox in this role...]
7) 2012-2013. Aarti: "Kho kar paane ke baad jaana hai ki...ki pyaar kya hota hai. Sachcha pyaar kya hota hai. Ab kisi se koi jhijhak nahi. Koi darr nahi, koi sharam nahi. Haan...Karti hoon main aapse pyaar. Bahut pyaar. Bahut pyaar..."
[Me: Consistently raising the bar, carrying her own legacy forward on her own terms, delivering one sensitive, nuanced performance after another with talented people to guide her...If JKR honed her skills as an actor, PV-ZMD has helped her polish her craft. The growth in 5 years has been tremendous. And that word doesn't do her any justice. Her strength lies in her connectivity with the audience, in her ability to live in her character's skin and understand her thoughts...and to consistently bring that understanding to the fore so that everyone can see her, not as Kratika, but as P2 or as Rani Laxmibai or as Aarti.]
