I am viewing what transpired in the latest episode within context of the joint family system.
In the joint family system love and respect for elders and between all family members is valued and considered important. The head of the family is generally the oldest male relative. Rituals, customs, tradition and values are rigidly upheld and anyone who goes against the norm practiced by the family is seriously asking for trouble. In short it is a close knit organized unit. Any new person entering the family (example daughter in law) will find it hard to adjust and there will undoubtedly be many a hiccup (read clash) before the adjustment occurs.
The head of the family is certainly not a dictator though inevitably he wields a lot of power and has the last say in major issues. Ideally the head listens to the opinion of all members before taking a decision, if any member suggests breaking away from the norm ' then he/she is given opportunity to logically convince/win over others, and all contribute financially. The head of the family has to be truly wise and a good diplomat ' to manage the family matters "justly" so that each member feels content, secure, and happy.

How did they deal with extramarital affairs - particularly if it is the head of the family who is indulging in it? Well if the lady love of equal or higher socioeconomic status then the child was bundled to a childless relative so the ladies reputation was untarnished. Or the concerned lady lived in the out-house, as a constant torment to the lady of the house. If the lady love was of a lower socioeconomic status she was discreetly paid off so that the offspring and she lived in comfort. The out-house or a separate establishment off-city was another solution.

Now - relating the above to PV we can see that the initial breaches of social norms by SP and Radha have paved the way for the total breakdown seen in today's epi.

1. AarYa going against SP's orders of buying off Ak-Ish and Radha. Instead AarYa have decided to welcome and accept Ak-Ish as the rightful son and DIL of SM. Now that slot has to be gradually granted by the others to them!

2. SP going against social norms and allowing them entry to SM. He voiced his resentment at the unfolding situation by refusing to receive Ak-Ish.

3. Vidhi, Bua, Pankaj, Prateek's resentment and concern the family unity will be seriously tested, and peace may be a illusion.

4. G3's shock at Radha's entry. Radha's living quarters and that of Yash (or Akash?) should be outside ' but given the complication created by the baby swap this issue was difficult to resolve and left unaddressed by SP.

5. All in all IMO AarYa have taken a big risk and put themselves in the line of fire. They are certainly not going to be forgiven that easily.

What's next? Fireworks within SM I presume!! Neither Ak-Ish or Radha are familiar with the joint-family lifestyle nor feel any affection towards SM members (except Radha towards AarYa) so we are in for some tumultuous episodes while bridges are built and affection developed!! Radha's place will need to be redefined and ultimately decided by SP!

Akash's role in the family business too will be based on SP's decision. Akash's hunger for power and status will need to be transmuted to showing committment, respect, loyalty and hardwork. The same applies to Ishita as well. While all other members have to learn to be patient and willing to lend a hand in helping them learn!

Nice post on the joint family system!!
I got to be honest that I expected the other family members to be angry with SP and even lose their respect for him for having an affair with a gril and even asked her to abort the baby. I thought they would question him for acting like someone so upright when he has skeletons in his closet!
My expectation was based on the reactions of my friends and cousins when they found out that their dads were having an affair or had an affair...But reading your take does give me a little perspective on the family's reactions...

Believe it or not Akui - I am talking from first hand knowledge. Three generations before I was born - on my maternal side the head of the household did something similar. He built a separate establishment for the lady concerned on the property but at a distance from the ancestral house.
From what I heard only two of his married sons were friendly and openly mingled with the ladylove and her family. And after a few years when the fad faded his wife was the one to extend the olive hand, console the lady love and fight for her acceptance in society!! Of course the later generations had no problem in accepting them as extended uncles and aunts!!
