there is a certain number of stem cells that need to be collected from the donor that is considered enough for the recepient. There are two ways to collect stem cells. One is by repeated bone marrow aspirations in the OR which is an old method and not used so much anymore.
The other is to give a injections to the donor and then use a IV line to collect the stem cells. This is the more common method now as it is less painful.Usually the required number of stem cells will be collected in 1 - 2 days or rather i should see collection over 1 or 2 sittings over the next couple of days.Kay
