Patchwork Take Today from Things I said at Different Times
The episode was really interesting and kind of confirms what I postulated about Aarti the other day. Though she loves Yash, and though she wants to tell him about the baby, she senses that she would be separated from the baby one way or another if she were to tell him. So as sad as this may sound, she is taking the "easier" route here, by avoiding telling him altogether and at least getting to keep the baby, whereas if she told him, she could be bereft of both Yash and the baby. I reconnected with Aarti big time today and nobody is more relieved than me! I was utterly frustrated all weekend when I could not fathom her behaviour.
There is no way Aarti would be so easily persuaded by Bua (I mean come on, this is the woman who was dragged out of the house screaming by her father after the kidnapping) if she didn't secretly want to run away from the whole mess herself. In all this complication, she craves simplicity, and I can't blame her.
That one line after Yash's bhashan, where she chides herself for not being able to tell him, that line just did it for me today. Aarti was not saying, I kept quiet for Yash's happiness, but admitting that she was just plain scared and couldn't muster the courage to tell him about the pregnancy. My heart finally went out to her in her complete honesty.
As I read the discussion about Aarti not thinking about Palak and Payal, in her decision to leave with Ansh, one dialogue of Yash's comes to mind:
"If this truth were to come out, this relationship would cease to exist It is better that the information doesn't go past me and we walk our parallel paths."
Yash is the one, who in his blind rage, took away the meaning from this relationship and the delicate web they had built. The truth did come out after all, and so in his own words, the relationship was null and void the minute Aarti confronted him in the locker room and Prateek overheard their conversation. It is true that in action he never wanted to separate the kids, or Aarti, but that is because he simply hadn't thought that far ahead; he didn't think what his words could, mean because he doesn't think they have any power over other people.
So can you blame Aarti, suddenly, if in the face of the adversity she faces, his proclamations of friendship, and her motherhood of Palak and Payal feel false? He became a true father to Ansh because she let go after the kidnapping and she was a mother to Palak, in the true sense, only when Palak felt Yash acknowledge it completely. So in trying to negate the romance between them, if Yash negated the relationship as a whole, all these relationships suffer as a result.
And it goes back to what I was say8ing yesterday in my analysis of the family scene. Aarti honestly does not know how much she means to Palak and Payal, independent of Yash and Arpita. There is still that step to be completed in their relationship, where Palak and Payal really show her what she is capable of as a mother and a human being, to set that mutual connection in stone. So far it has been one sided. Aarti returned them to their rightful childhood, Payal when she planned Palak's birthday and showed her celebration instead of sadness for the first time, and Palak when she helped her overcome her stage fright rather than hiding it and allowing it to cause resentment. But she hasn't seen herself in their eyes yet, as Yash has seen himself in Ansh's.
It is not that she doesn't love the girls, or consider herself their mother. It is that she doesn't know just how important she is in their lives, in relation to Yash. To her, Yash's anger makes them just as upset or more so than her leaving would (when the only reason they came out of Yash's anger unharmed was because of her constant presence and protection) which makes her fathom that they could be fine, or even better off without her. Basically, she doesn't understand how much they need her and so thinks it is a profitable trade off for them: loss of mom for happy dad.
And Ansh, she assumes she can manage, just like she always has with her words and her story-weaving. She is of course, underestimating his ability to bounce back after the loss of his father, but I see where she is coming from in her sheer desperation to do the right thing and make everyone happy.
