aimf, I had low expectations from this show the way PV1 was abruptly shut and PV2 started with almost no promotion. There was some promotion by PV1 stars and PV2 stars, but it was negligible compared to what is done for other shows. The mingling of PV1 and PV2 was not good and shoddy characterization showed within the first week. But still viewers were giving it a chance. It was after 2nd week when the ratings suddenly started falling badly because characters were never made clear to audience.I really do not understand the politics behind all this. I was just watching the show purely for entertainment. But it appears that there is a big cloud of controversy with regard to this show, as a consequence of which many people in the forum appear distressed. After today's episode, I am also really confused about Divya's role. Is she going to come back with the red chunari and want to be with Raj, after Raj starts to get fond of Sarita? Or is she being phased out, as Angie says? I am also rather confused about Rohan becoming the parallel lead. What role can he possibly have in this story, as it is being played out?
Well, if Raj and Sarita are the leads going forward (with no place for Divya), then I really wonder what the story is about. Raj is already Sarita's friend. And from the number of eyelocks shared between them (as per WUs) attracted to her as well. So, this journey from strangers to friends and potential lovers has been too quick. What next? With Divya out, there would be no conflict at all.Just saw two minutes of the show. So Ruby's voice was dubbed. It is now clear that the intention is to drop Ruby from the show. There was another news that Abhishek is now a parallel lead. So Ayaz is already given a boot.
The CVs are playing a clever game here. Rubina as Divya was sent to Indore to promote the show just when Divya stopped being in the show. Maybe there was a big backlash by fans on her absence in the Mahasangam. So suddenly there was an article about her beauty line that was started way before this show started. Then they quoted her talking about PV and made it seem as if her story would be shown. Then today they brought her back for 5 minutes. But it was to glorify Sarita and to make excuses for Raj. Here they dubbed the voice. So they are just going to show Divya or show her references until they feel that Sarita will be accepted by new audience and the existing viewers do not leave (the ones who watch for either Divya or Rubina).Sundari too is kicked out suddenly. So Divya and Sundari leaving, Raj not thinking of Divya or having that vow of not meeting of Divya is to remove Divya from the story. If Abhishek or Rohan is the parallel male lead, then Shiela would be the second female lead.So there will be four characters - two hypocrites Rohan and Sheila. The other two - Raj and Sarita who were selfish self-absorbed character (but still grey and complex) have turned within a week to one-dimensional "white" boring characters.Do they still think audience would be interested in this show? Even now I am curious to know. This strategy did not work out for their other show which barely lasted 6 months (only completed 100 episodes). They killed the popular actor (who is also a good actor) and brought another lead. It did not work and closed within a month or so. If the story (foundation) is weak and characters are so unlikeable as are Raj and Sarita along with Rohan and Shiela, how can a show last? But just from a business point of view, I am interested to see if this PH/channel's current strategy works as it has not worked for their other shows.
Angie
Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all this. You are very correct. It makes a lot of sense. I used to watch PV1 and there was a group of us who found it intellectually stimulating to discuss the episodes on that forum regularly. That ended abruptly, as you also noted, and I thought that I would give this one a chance, simply because it was by the same PH. It is disappointing that all the characters are turning into one-dimensional pawns. I will not be surprised if Divya is made to turn negative as you prophesied. I do not know if you watched the part of Sohanlal's dialogue in today's episode and that is the latest character to ping-pong. Today they showed him supporting Sarita, and calling her a good person, even as he shut up Kamala, who was complaining about her. This is a 180 degree turn from the recent past where he was critical of her and all in favor of getting Divya to marry his son.
đ I had to jump in - as I really loved your analysis. I completely agree with all your points and love the way you have put them.
Three decisions regarding the plot has cost the CVs dearly:
1. The ten year leap was a big mistake, in my opinion. It would have been better to see Raj still freshly in love with Divya and then marrying Sarita succumbing to parental pressure. This way, they could utilize Divya fully in the story, instead of sidelining her. Rubina, who plays Divya, has a lot of finesse. I love her presence on the screen, and the ways in which she carries herself. This way, the CVs could also give room for Sarita's feelings to grow, as the plot evolved further.Agree whole heartedly. A much lesser leap (may be 6 months) would have been far more realistic. Some leap was needed to show that the characters were settled in their changed lives. Raj as the indifferent, emotionally closed husband, Sarita as still optimistic but almost defeated wife and Divya as the successful, 'much in love' girlfriend who was oblivious of Raj's wedding. To actually show that all three characters did not grow and adapt for 10 years is unbelievable.Actor wise, I liked all three. I haven't seen any of them before but whatever I saw of them, I liked. Not only Rubina, I found Srishty also a very good actor with a really infectious smile and a lot of charm.
2. Making the Jhakotia family unbelievably dysfunctional was another decision that is proving to be costly. The family was portrayed as entirely selfish and loveless, with each person screaming at the other, where taunts, disrespect, spiteful remarks, and verbal abuse were the order of the day. In this milieu, Raj and Sarita somehow lived a life together of non-communication and non interaction, but with the subplot of Sarita constantly craving his attention. The family was portrayed as so venomous that although it attracted my curiosity, and perhaps that of a few others, it bound the CVS in a narrow straitjacket so that there was no elbow room for family dynamics to evolve. Raj, who was never seen speaking to his family, is now suddenly protective of his sisters, and also ready to do his father's bidding (in today's episode) without any qualms. Sohan is becoming fond of Sarita; and Raj, miraculously, is becoming fond of Sarita also.I disliked each and every member of Raj's family including Shiela and dadi. In fact, the family scenes made me extremely uncomfortable and I wanted to give up on the show the day they showed Raj's dad and his mistress first time. Many times, side characters are more relatable and interesting as the main characters do become one dimensional in their quest for greatness. Even in stories like Harry Potter (where there was one central lovable protagonist), I loved Ron's insecurity, Hermione's cleverness and moral fibre, Snape's conflict and Fred's great but at times cruel humour. This story did not give me a single likeable or interesting side character (unless you count Gaurav)
3. Finally, sidelining Divya, if this continues, would be the third decision that would cost the CVs. It would take away the little space for any creative tension that can possibly move the plot along. As it stands, there plot appears to be very insipid and predictable. We all know where it is heading.Agree again. Since Raj's change has been so quick and jarring, I sometimes feel that Raj-Sarita PV is not the main plot. In 2 months we are already almost there. What will they show next if they remove Divya as well.
I do not know what, if anything the CVs can do to extricate themselves from this situation. O well. If nothing, it was very good to meet you in this forum and converse with you.
aimf, I had low expectations from this show the way PV1 was abruptly shut and PV2 started with almost no promotion. There was some promotion by PV1 stars and PV2 stars, but it was negligible compared to what is done for other shows. Today I read the update and watched some scenes. It seemed as if Divya and Sarita scenes were to glorify Sarita even further as now she is officially the mahaan character. Also Raj is being white washed. I could not understand why Divya's voice was dubbed. That dubbing did not go with emotions shown on Divya's face. So they are hoping audience do not connect to Divya at all. These CVs are definitely reading the forum. So a lot of us had raised questions about Raj not supporting Divya despite knowing about her responsibilities or Sarita calling Divya's leaving as a mistake. So suddenly, they gave this line to Sarita that Divya should not have left and both Divya/Raj could have taken care of her responsibilities jointly.
Angie answer to your above line, when sarita was talking to divya above mentioned dialogue , was Divya given the time to respond to her question , here again Divya was put in katghara Was Raj that time able to share the responsibility with Divya as he himself was student . Why there was no answer from Divya , her explanation. The person who himself was depended on his parents , could have gone against his parents wishes . They both were in college , may be had few months friendship , can be infatuation as both were young .It could have been mature story involving three characters , but sorry , there was no concrete story .Divya is shown to have signed the TV contract and Gaurav's character is nowhere to be seen. Neither are Gaurav's mother or Divya's family shown. Suddenly, she is going leaving without them and they have no concerns. So it seems as if Divya is being phased out. Her presence is just to pacify viewers and make it seem as if Raj was never at fault. Soon those 10 years will never be mentioned.Raj initially wanted to do Sarita's PV after Divya's arrival so that he can marry Divya without feeling any guilt. Now he wants to do Sarita's PV because he wants her to be happy with some nicer people so that she doesn't have to take insults from his family. But who can choose their in laws. Does this logic means that every husband whose parents are nasty to his wife should do his wife's PV? Isn't standing up against them or at most moving out of your parents' house the solution?
here sarita was shown without any self respect when her parents were shown to be supportive , why she should take her non-existent husband, s help to marry her again who mentally abused her for last 10 years and also knew about her verbally abused by his family . She should have shown to be gone away with her self respect intact . Is marriage is the end and srart of life ?After mooning over Divya for 10 years and not even knowing of Sarita's existence, Raj suddenly has no thought of Divya. She is leaving the city and yet he remains unconcerned. He is busy flirting with "Chotu" with whom he is suddenly comfortable. All this is actually making Raj come across as a very fickle person who picks and discards people at his convenience. There is no empathy for anybody. How can such a character be likeable? Instead of showing a steady progression of his character, this ping ponging has turned him into a very boring character.Same is the case with Sarita. I had liked her the most in the first week. But very fast, she has lost both sympathy and has become a hugely boring one-dimensional character.Divya who is the most likeable character among all three is nowhere to be seen. And here I am not talking about Rubina who is playing Divya. If Rubina or any other actress (say Vidya Balan a powerhouse in acting) was playing Sarita, I would find Sarita the most boring character as she is being shown now. Then there are Rohan and Shiela. Sheila was the most insipid character of this show. Rohan was introduced in the show in a very repelling manner. Both are supposedly in love with each other. So what is left here. Who is interested in watching the love story of two hypocritical characters?Sundari was the one character I never liked. But suddenly she is shown to be gone too in a most illogical manner. She was shown to be this mean character who is suddenly gone after realizing her mistake. Does it even make sense? As far as Divya is concerned, they are keeping their options open. That's why chunri was given to her. She can be brought back if they find that they did not get the TRPs even after changing the show. As the favorite part of a triangle is a negative character, they can switch the obsession from Sarita to Divya to show that suddenly she wants to get Raj by hook or crook and Raj is not interested in her anymore.I don't think how revamping this show in this manner by expecting viewers to forget history of characters is going to get them their ratings. When there is still no emphasis on characterization and characters keep changing every other day, how are viewers going to get hooked to them.In the past few weeks, only three characters were holding my interest - Divya, Kamla and Sohan Lal. Divya is gone and Kamla/Sohan Lal are also turning into one-dimensional characters. Sarita became boring couple of weeks ago and now from last few days, even Raj has become one now.As I said before, PH has already tried this strategy in two of their shows (as far as I know) and in both cases, their strategy failed pretty badly. So wonder if it would work out this time. But then there are better shows in this time slot. The top show has a good story, adorable kids and good actors. On top of that, they are bringing back a character that was well liked in the beginning and is played by a good actor. That show still has not gone through leap and so has a lot of potential in terms of growth in the story line. Why would viewers switch from that show or other two shows to watch this one?
Looks some have pessimistic thinking I also don't think it's funny or laughable to believe some goodness in some oneVery sad to see we are having this convo --we are making fun of each others thinking
