I t seems Ramanand Prithviraj Sagar's Chauhan has got stuck in a time-wrap. The show, which tracks the valiant Rajput king's life, has been on for over a year months but the young Prithviraj Chauhan refuses to grow up. Although Rajat Tokas, who plays the young Prithviraj, may not be complaining, Angad Bedi is not too happy. Bedi was approached to play the senior character of Prithviraj Chauhan. He hasn't heard from the makers yet. "Because the makers have extended the role of the young Prithviraj, I haven't heard from the makers yet. I guess because the show has struck a popular chord with the audiences, the makers extended the young Prithviraj's role. I am still wait- ing to don the costume," he laments. The show is being beamed on Star TV at 9 pm (weekends). The serial was shot after 10 years of painstaking research. Shaileja Kejriwal, who was Star India's creative head when the show was launched, says, "I think the show has got a prime slot. On weekends, children are home. I think the story of Prithviraj Chauhan has appealed to the younger generation." The story traces the journey of the warrior king, who falls in love with his enemy's daughter, Sanyogita. He rode off with her on the day of her swayamvar before the watchful eye of her father. His story highlights all the important aspects of duty, bravery, patriotism, friendship, family and romance. The series is divided into five phases, and will trace the life of Prithviraj right from his birth until his death. The series is set in the 11th century but will introduce a more modern look with respect to the treatment of the costumes, production design and language, while staying true to the original sto- ry. It will maintain a fine bal- ance between the authentic and the contemporary.
