The Chauhans,Prithviraja.The chauhan chiefs of sambhar and ajmer in rajasthan fill a large place in hindu tradition and in the story of the muslim conquest of northern india.one of them named vigraharaja may be mentioned as a noted patron of sanksrit literature who was credited with the composition of a drama, fragments of which are preserved on stone tablet at ajmer. his brother' son was rai pithora or prithviraja, already mentioned, who carried off jaichand's daughter about ad 1175 đ , and defeated the chandels in 1182. he led the led the resistance to muhammad of ghor ten years later, was defeated at the second battle of tarain, captured, and executed. đ his city if ajmer was sacked and the inhabitants wre either massacred or enslaved. đĄ
He is the mot popular hero of northernindia to this day,and his exploits are the ubject of bards' songs and vernacular epics.
The Chand Raisa.The most celebrated of such epic is the chand raisa composed by prithviraj's court poet, chand bardai.the poem,wrtten in archaic hindi,has been constantly enlarged by writers and i beleived to comprise about 125,000 verses. Many other composition of a similar character are to be found in rajasthan.
