@padma I am not well versed with devi purana as much as I am with Srimad Bhagavatham or puranas connected with Vishnu. But as per my knowledge I will tell you this.
Adi sakthi is the pridominal energy that has no form. She takes the form of Sati to unite with Shiva and express herself for the welfare of the world. Hence she comes as Daksha's daughter. But Daksha doesnt realize who she is and the reason for her birth. Hence he insults Mahadev as for him he is a nomad sitting in a mountain. Sati is pained and sacrifices herself to be reborn to a father who respects Mahadev.
Thus she is born again to Himavan the king of mountains as by that time Tarakasur is creating havoc with the boon that only Shiva's son can kill him and Shiva post Sati's death has taken an ascetic life. Born as Parvathy/Girija/Hema she does penance so that Shiva recognizes she is Adi Sakthi herself who has come in the new form and then marries him.
It is said her blessing ensures a good family life and based on the situation she takes various forms from benevolent to destructive. And it is said she is present in every woman in one form or another.
