I think Mrinal is irrational. Not evil...just a confused lost irrational child.
She saw her entire family massacred at a young age and that had a huge impact on her.
Yes...lots of kids lost lives of their parents that night (even Sulochana) but none SAW it ...witnessed it...experienced it as she did.
I think she is still that lost child inside the woman's body. Psychologically & emotionally, she stopped growing, which is why her decisions don't make sense to us, who see her as an adult woman.
She became a machine to survive the tragedy. Did not go through the 5 stages of grief and never got over the tragedy.
And Prithvi entering her life is evoking emotions she has never felt before. So, she is scared and overreacting. It's like a caterpillar in the cocoon for the longest time and is forced to metamorphose into a butterfly (thanks to our PV) but is fighting it all the way.
She is not evil. She is misguided by her revenge feelings but otherwise she is honest and upfront.
Had she been truly evil, she would have married PV, become the Queen of Malwa and then proceeded to destroy it from within (like the trojan horse). She would have had the power of a ueen and time on her side to slowly finish it .
But she didn't.
The makers are showing her at two-faced, as in:
- normal behavior for a princess of that time (like a thousand years ago)
- irrational and like a little girl where Malwa is considered
As to her asking Vilas to forgive SS, it was normal for that time. It's amazing that they show her beating him up. Back in those days (and sadly even today), women don't have a say in these decisions.
I don't condone it but in the context of politics, kingdom, alliances, 1000 years ago, it makes sense.
She asks Vilas to reconsider but doesn't force the decision. She never introduces Vilas as prospective bride to PV & company, just Bhillam's daughter.
Which brings me to her telling Jakka off and not her brother. Well...this is complex because there's the hubby-wife dynamic and king-queen dynamic:
As a hubby, Tailap was wrong in cheating on his wife and keeping a mistress. But no one likes family interfering, so Mrinal is right in keeping herself out of it.
As a King, Tailap didn't do anything wrong. But as a Queen, Jakkala misused her power to kill other human for personal reasons. So as a rajkumari she was right in telling Jakka off for her un-queenly behavior.
