Seemingly inspired by the successful daily Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that's set in Rajasthan, Ram Milayee Jodi seems to be Zee's attempt to blend two important TRP markets - Delhi and Gujarat. The 9.30 pm slot has been hotly contested primetime territory between Star Plus, Zee and Colors for quite some time. While over the past one and half years it's been a close fight between Star's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Zee's Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo with the former often leading in the slot, in recent months Laagi Tujhse Lagan has also been a decent competition for the other two. While Star continues to back its prime property and Colors has recently shifted Laagi Tujhse Lagan to 8.30 pm to make way for Fear Factor, Zee has sent Agle Janam to 7.30 pm to accommodate its new daily Ram Milayee Jodi in the peak primetime slot. What's interesting about Ram Milayee Jodi is that it seems to draw inspiration from Yeh Rishta... as it is writer-cum-producer Rajita Sharma's baby. Rajita had also mothered and nurtured Yeh Rishta initially before she quit. The similarity doesn't end there, though its canvas has been painted in different colours and shades. If Yeh Rishta... is a slice-of-life post-arranged marriage love story between Naitik and Akshara as also coming together of their respective (Rajasthani) families, Ram Milayee Jodi is a love story of Anukalp and Mona, who hail from two very culturally-different worlds with precious little in common. It starts in pre-marriage days but quickly jumps into post-marriage phase and deals not just with adjustment problems between two bi-polar opposites but also their families - vegetarian Gujarati Gandhis and leg-egg-peg non-vegetarian Punjabi Bedis. Without mentioning any title, the press release credits Rajita with the scripting and creative direction of several successful shows. Rajita also prefers to be silent about her past success but says that Ram Milayee Jodi is a slice-of-life story of identifiable characters and small incidents of everyday life. "It is a love story of a shy boy and smart, modern girl. But apart from the love story and marriage, the show is about marriage between two families," says Rajita. Her manner of letting you get a hang of the characters has not changed. She did it the same way on the sets of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Starting with the seniormost character of the Bedi family and moving on to the Gandhis, she gives short character sketches. Rajita's characters are drawn from everyday milieu and she has an eye for detailing. When she says Harnaam Singh Bedi, played by Lalit Tiwari, migrated from Lahore, you know the old patriarch has to be authoritative as well as affectionate. If his son Gurnaam Singh (Sunil Sinha) has a weakness for the peg, there has to be some emotional chaos in his personal life. Vimmi (Riva Bubber) can't be a loud woman without being hyper and frank, even if she hurts someone unintentionally. If Mona (Priyal Gor) is a young, honest, beautiful and spirited girl she has to live in her illusionary world and naively believe in the goodness of people. It is difficult to imagine the principled Bharati Gandhi (Krutika Desai) without being righteous. She would not like her son to go against her wishes or marry the girl of his choice. But that's precisely what Anukalp (Nishant Malkani) does. The shy guy next door from a small Gujarati town on a posting in Delhi falls for the vivacious Mona. It is anybody's guess whether the two have fallen in matrimonial bliss or problems. But that's what marriage is all about. Diversity of characters is necessary for creating drama. The conflict between egg omelette and khakra on the breakfast table will lend drama to the story based in Delhi. Probably Priyal would know what's in store for the young couple as well as the Bedis and Gandhis. Her real life mother is a Punjabi and father Gujarati. "There will be problems initially, but I think Mona will change and adjust in the Gujarati family," is her vague take on the story. Priyal says she is more like Mona. "The only difference is that I am emotional and possessive. I also cry a lot," she laughs. Nishant, who was picked up in a local train in Kolkata for a career in modelling while he was doing his MBA, is not specific either. "It is a bitter-sweet story of a young couple and their families. This is my first show in a leading role," he adds. But Sunil Sinha puts it better, "When so many serials are being made how different can one show be from the other. Yet each show is unique in its own way, just as a tree painted by different painters looks different."

Stories of marriage are universal. But in a fragmented television universe, it is important to be State/States' specific. That's the recent trend in programming. With Ram Milayee Jodi, Zee is blending two important TRP markets in one show. Two diverse cultures and the ensuring conflict can make for an interesting dinner-time appointment viewing of Gujarati thali Vs North Indian variety food. Says Zee's head of fiction Sukesh Motwani, "It is a big and important show for us. That's why we have slotted it at 9.30 pm. It is refined and subtle. The show is about co-existence and compromises. Every day life - how two families cook, speak, chat, eat - can be seen in this show."

Nw Delhi: Krutika Desai, who has been in show business since the 1980s, has seen the TV industry grow technically by leaps and bounds, but feels content has deteriorated.

"In television, story is the hero. If you look at good old days, you will see how strong the scripts were. How important every character was. Not like today when you have a story revolving around just one character," Krutika told reporters in an interview.

She is still known by her screen name Sabya in popular television soap "Chandrakanta".

"There was room for everyone to perform, there were different things for everyone. And if you look at today's soaps, they have a mistress all the time - honestly, I don't feel there is any need for a mistress in a soap," she said.

In the last two decades, Krutika donned different roles for serials like "Buniyaad", "Superhit Muqabla", "A Mouthful of Sky" and "Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki".

Krutika is now playing a strong character of a Gujarati woman in Zee TV's new soap "Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi" and says she is quite excited after a long time.

"This soap reminds me a lot of the 'Buniyaad' days. Here emphasis is given to every character - be it their looks or roles - everyone plays a pivotal role here," she said.

"Preet Se..." is about Anukalp, a shy, softspoken boy from a conservative Gujarati family, and Mona, a bubbly, spunky girl from a Punjabi family, who fall in love despite not having anything in common.

"The story is about moments and has interactions from day-to-day things; so it will appeal to everyone as people can relate to it in many ways. This soap is based on the premise that opposites attract and the problems faced by families in marriages between people of different communities," said Krutika.

Is playing a Gujarati woman in the soap a challenge?

"No, not at all. I am from a Gujarati background only and I am very familiar with the accent and everything. It's very close to my heart," said the actress who refused to reveal her age saying she is "ageless".

Will Sara Khan replace Priyal Gor in Ram Milaayi Jodi?
Buzz up!

As if the makers were awaiting her eviction from Bigg Boss so that they could approach her to replace the protagonist Priyal Gor in Zee TV's Ram Milaayi Jodi.

According to the popular buzz, Bidaai girl Sara Khan has been approached by producer Rajita Sharma to replace Priyal Gor on the show and if sources are to be believed she has been signed on. If things fall in place, the actress will start shooting with the unit starting tomorrow. Khan catapulted to fame as Sadhana of Bidaai to quit the show for popular celebrity show Bigg Boss 4. She was evicted last Friday from Bigg Boss.

Informs a reliable source, "It is now almost confirmed that Sara Khan has been signed on to play the role of Mona which is currently played by Priyal Gor. The production house wasn't really happy with her performance and attitude and wanted to replace her for a long time now. They weren't too impressed with other actresses they had shortlisted and decided to approach Khan, an offer she readily agreed to. They have to launch the promos with the replacement by the 20th of this month so the shoot will have to start anytime soon. Things are expected to get sealed with Sara by tomorrow and she will commence the shoot by day after. Sara is a popular name and both the channel and production house has pinned down their hopes on the actress. Considering her fan base we expect that her inclusion in the show will do wonders for it."

Sara Khan denied the buzz completely and said, "Who told you this? I have just come out of Bigg Boss and I haven't even been approached by the production house."

All attempts to reach producer Rajita Sharma and Sukesh Motwani, fiction head Zee TV, went futile. Well the two girls certainly bear a close resemblance and only time will tell if Sara will be the new Mona of
Ram Milaayi Jodi. Keep watching this space.

Mona and Anukalp unite in SRK - Kajol style..

Monday, December 20, 2010 | 12:06:26 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)
Mona and Anukalp unite in SRK - Kajol style..

Mona and Anukalp have an emotional union in typical Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge style in Zee TV's Ram Milaayi Jodi..

Sara Khan who was the face of Bidaai will enter Zee TV and Rajita Sharma's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi in tonight's episode. TellyBuzz had earlier reported that Sara replaces Priyal Gor as the lead protagonist Mona.

Our source states, "Sara's entry sequence will be shown when she is dressing up in her dulhan get-up. A close shot wherein she is putting on her jewels, putting kajal, basically doing her shringaar will be her first shot".

Last week, we saw Mona deciding to open up her love for Anukalp (Nishant Malkani) but at the last minute she gets back thinking about her family. In tonight's episode, Mona who is all set for her marriage, will get to know that Anukalp is leaving and she runs to the balcony to get a sight of him.

"When Mona sees Anukalp going, she feels miserable. That is when she realizes that she has not given the Babaji's locket to Anukalp and she takes off behind him to reach the locket to the guy she is in love with", adds our source.

The unit shot a sequence similar to the climax scene of the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge wherein Mona reaches the railway station only to notice that the train has already started.

"Mona calls for Anukalp and he too notices her there. There is a very emotional sequence wherein Mona runs forward and Anukalp puts his hand out and pulls her inside the train. Both are very happy to see each other, but at the next moment they realize that the train has caught up speed and Mona cannot get down the train for the next 6-7 hours", adds our source.

This creates some tense moments as Mona's baraat is due to come, and she has come out of the house without telling anyone. We hear that Mona and Anukalp will reach home the next day, and this will create a huge ruckus at Mona's home.

When contacted, Nishant Malkani aka Anukalp told us, "Yes, we shot for a train sequence yesterday. It is a pleasure to be working with Sara. We have become good friends now and are looking forward to the next big twists in the show".

Will this twist lead to Mona and Anukalp's marriage? How will Mona's family react?

Watch Ram Milaayi Jodi on Zee TV tonight to see Sara Khan in action..

Rajeev Bhalla, the very popular character in Zee TV's 12/24 Karol Bagh will soon enter Ram Milaayi Jodi as the cousin of Mona..

The very mention of Rajeev Bhalla makes us jump in excitement, for the amount of drama and spice that he brought into his role in Zee TV's 12/24 Karol Bagh, produced by Sunshine Productions.

Have you ever heard of a popular character from a show making a comeback in a brand new show of the same channel? Well, Indresh Malik aka Rajeev Bhalla has made it possible, as he is all set to enter Rajita Sharma's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi.

Our source states, "The Punjabi and Gujju family will now gear up for the wedding of Anukalp (Nishant Malkani) and Mona (Sara Khan). The wedding celebrations will begin next week and as part of the first segment, there will be a Kavi Sammelan organized in the Gujju house. And Rajeev Bhalla will enter the show as Mona's cousin brother from Delhi".

We hear that popular Hasya Kavi Shailesh Lodha, who plays the role of Taarak Mehta in the SAB TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Oooltah Chashmah will be seen in the Kavi Sammelan with his team comprising of Dinesh Diggaj, Arun Gemini and Aashkaran.

"The Kavi Sammelan will be one event filled with laughter wherein the people assembled will recite poetry in their own style. At the end of the Sammelan, Rajeev Bhalla will create a huge ruckus when he asks for some Bhangda and ridicules the Gujju style of wedding", adds our source.

Rajeev Bhalla goes on to ask Anukalp whether he has kissed his girl or not, and his comments lead to controversy between the two families.

When contacted, Indresh Malik confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I was taken aback when the channel told me that they wanted me back in the role of Rajeev Bhalla in Ram Milaayi Jodi. More celebrities to grace Mona and Anukalp's wedding...

More celebrities to grace Mona and Anukalp's wedding...

Sanjeeda Shaikh, Barkha Bisht and Jay Soni will be seen performing for Mona and Anukalp's wedding in Zee TV's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi...

TellyBuzz reported that the wedding of Anukalp (Nishant Malkani) and Mona (Sara Khan) in Rajita Sharma's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi on Zee TV will have lots of surprises and to kick-start the celebrations, the show will see the entry of Rajeev Bhalla, played by Indresh Malik.

The Kavi Sammelan hosted by the Gujjus will end on a sour note where Rajeev Bhalla demands for a dance number and expects more spice in a wedding.

To show their style of grandeur in the wedding, the Punjabi family will come up with a Bachelors' party wherein they will have a dhamaka performance coming from Barkha Bisht.

A source says, "Yesterday we shot for the Bachelors' party where Barkha Bisht made her appearance and performed on few songs like Dhanno, Sheila Ki Jawani and Sharara Sharara. The otherwise shy guy Anukalp Gandhi gets high on drink and grooves on the dance stage".

After the successful bachelors' party, it is again the turn of the Gujjus to come up with a good Dandiya event.

"In the typical Dandiya atmosphere, we will see Sanjeeda Shaikh and Jay Soni making an appearance. They performed on three different numbers from the movies like Band Baja Baraat, Lajja and Action Replay," adds source.

We contacted Nishant Malkani who shared his talli experience of shaking his legs on Sheila Ki Jawani. "It was great to dance on Sheila Ki Jawani as I was totally drunk onscreen. But after a long time I got to execute something different when compared to the shy guy I play. This opportunity gave me a chance to come out of my character of Anukalp."

Sanjeeda Shaikh too confirmed, "Yes, I have performed in Ram Milayi Jodi on few numbers."

"It was great to be part of the show and as dancing is something I always love to do", asserts Barkha Bisht.

We tried calling Jay Soni but he remained unavailable.

Don't forget to see all the fun and masti on Ram Milaayi Jodi...

Fight on the sets of Ram Milaayi Jodi...

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | 2:59:21 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)
Fight on the sets of Ram Milaayi Jodi...

Excess prank leads to a serious fight between co-actors on the sets of Zee TV's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi...

There was a huge fight that erupted recently on the sets of Zee TV's Preet Se Bandhi Ye Dori Ram Milaayi Jodi. We hear that Indraneil Goswami who plays father to Mona (Sara Khan) in the show usually has this habit of playing pranks on actors, but on the given day things went out of limits.

It so happened that he was playing a prank on Nikhil Sharma who plays the role of Aditya. The prank got a bit low in taste and this is when Nikhil got very upset.

Our source from the set says, "A triggering incident happened recently between two actors, Nikhil Sharma and Indraneil Goswami that lead to major tension. The fight happened when a certain prank got worse, and Nikhil Sinha who is new to the industry felt very bad, so much so that the two exchanged few punches too".

The fight grew to such great proportions that the cast and crew members of another show who were shooting in the adjacent studio came running to witness what had actually happened.

We called Nikhil Sharma and he confirmed, "Yes such an incident happened recently, but now we both are friends as everything has come back to normalcy. We both shoot our scenes and go back to our green room without any glut conversation".

We tried contacting Indraneil but all our efforts were in vain!

All we can say here is all is well that ends well.

2010 all the way to 2011..

Saturday, January 01, 2011 | 10:16:06 AM IST (+05:30 GMT)
2010 all the way to 2011..

Telly Stars shares their bygones in the year 2010

2010 had been a year of surprises for the television industry with all new surprise packages like never before. There have been various ups and downs that sometimes brought the stars under shock or that pleasantly surprised them.

With the New Year setting in, Tellybuzz had a small chat with the stars about how their life in 2010 was and here they gave the answers.

Nishant Malkani
:

What were the pros and cons this year?
The year has been good and nothing sad has happened till now. This year I got to do shows like Miley Jab Hum Tum where I got recognized and got to do the lead role in Raam Milaayi Jodi.

A mistake that you would never repeat? After Miley Jab Hum Tum, I put on weight as I had stopped working out. I had a physique which was evident in the show and I drained it off after the show and now I am working out to bring it back. So henceforth I will not do that mistake of stopping my work out.

What skill do you most want to learn or improve this year? I want to improve my acting skills so that I would get myself into films.

What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your work life this year? I would want to improve on my body language and dancing skills and everything that is related to acting.

What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year? I waste a lot of time on my Blackberry Messenger and keep chatting with my friends from other shows.

Who is the person you most want to encourage this year?I would love to encourage Priyal Gor, because she just needs to brush up her acting and she will do great in future.

Your New Year wish? I wish to have two days at least when people just forget me and leave on my own (laughs).

It would be Dekh Bhai Dekh.

When was the first time you had a glass of beer?
It was six months back but after that I had made up my mind to never have it, as I did not like the taste.

What was the funniest prank played on you?
Actually I am a vegetarian and someone on the sets brought Soya Beans which seems like chicken and everyone was like don't have it, and I didn't have that. The actual truth was revealed later.

Did you ever do eave teasing?
No never…I am totally against it.

A movie for which you walked off from the theater?
Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam. That was the most disappointing movie from the super trio Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Your favourite show on TV right now?
Apart from Ram Milaye Jodi its F.r.i.e.n.d.s. which comes on Star World .

Would you rather have a $50'000 or true love?
True love of course.

My lovely house

If you want to ask one question to Osama Bin Laden, what would that be?
What does he think of himself and is he not scared of God.
