I have been in the industry for more than a decade now. I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I just finished shooting for Zee TV's show Choti Bahuwherein I played the character of Vishwanath-the evil. But I must share something about my experience in the soap. On the sets of Choti Bahu, everyone came on time, did their job and left on time. But there was a serious lack of commitment. I felt it was more about spending the usual 12 hours, as per the contract, on the sets. They just came and stood in front of the camera, so that they could give their shots fast and leave for home. It's like doing a regular job.
Furthermore, the actors are not making any extra effort. They are happy being known as Radhika and Dev. People don't know their real names but they are cool with it. This is the problem in today's time. The actors are not willing to upgrade and make a name for them.
I think the actors are not the only ones at fault. The working patterns have also changed a lot. Even the producers and directors lack in commitment. People from the industry are not doing their research and homework properly. There should be more discipline as well. The script and the screenplay come in late and then we have to shoot in a hurry to pack up on time.
But I feel whatever the issues are; a true actor will work hard to stand out. Personally, I like reading my Hindi scripts in Hindi not in Roman English. I don't understand how can people do that. They have to get the feel of the dialogues. That is the reason Meghna Malik stood out in Laado. I played a Harvani daku in the show and I actually talked to people in Harvani over phone. Everyone thought I lost it but that's the kind of commitment one needs to create an impact.
Today, being an actor is all about getting a show and then buying a phone, a car and a house. And then sticking to the show, no matter what, in order to pay EMIs.
From the newer lot, I like Kritika Kamra from Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and Arhaan Behl from Pratigya. And of course, there are actors from the Balaji serials. But I must admit that in Balaji shows, there's only one superstar, and she is Ekta Kapoor. She has absolutely superb knowledge of casting. Be it Balaji movies or films, Ekta is the star, no one else.
So, to conclude I must add that the TV industry should focus more on quality than quantity. Ciao!!!
