'Bigg' time competition

With Bigg Boss being shifted to 10.30 pm on Colors this season, it's going to be a big fight between Star Plus, Sony and Colors for eyeballs. Over the last three seasons, Colors aired the show between 9 and 10 pm. But last year it ran into controversy because of bold content and managed to retain its time slot on a Bombay High Court order which asked the channel to tone down the show's content.
However, this year Colors is not only playing safe to avoid moral policing by government but also ducking competition from KBC's dream run. Such is the show's hold over three prime time slots between 8.30 and 10 pm that Colors simply didn't want to take risk by putting Bigg Boss in direct competition with KBC.
Another reason, according to sources, is that Colors wants to open a new battle front to fight Star Plus and Sony's hold over late prime time. Pratigya and Maryada have been star performers for Star Plus between 10.30 and 11.30 pm. Na Aana Iss Des Laado was a decent performer for Colors for over two years at 10.30 pm. But the straight fight between Pratigya and Laado became a triangular battle for eyeballs with the entry of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain four months ago. Pratigya managed to retain its loyal audience, but Laado lost the battle to Bade Acche. Will Bigg Boss spoil the show for Star Plus and Sony?
Bhagonwali's night shift
Among the two pre-prime-time dailies that Zee launched in December last year to cater to small-town viewers, Bhangowali Baante Apni Taqdeer is the one that survived the axe as it's been steady at around 0.8 TVR at 6.30 pm. The channel believes that if a show delivers 0.8 TVR at 6.30 when TV viewership is at the lowest end, what it needs is a better time slot to live up to its potential. Hence, from this week, the show is being shifted to 10.30 pm which has been vacant after the exit of Sanskaar Laxmi last week. However, its repeat run will continue at 6.30 pm.
