After the heart-touching scene between Krishna and his grandmother this week😊, I wanted to take a moment and try to analyse this very overlooked, silent character, Ghanti Dadi.

She's such a paradox in her family..... She supports Pratigya, she disapproves of the wrongdoings by her son SS and bahu Amma. She didn't believe Prats had been involved with Angad. 😕

Why is this? How come she has been unaffected by all the negativeity in the Thakur Niwas?

Why does she have no control over her daughter in law (Amma) the way Amma has control over Kesar?

Why does she not speak? We know that about 20 years ago she stopped speaking... but what happened at that time? My guess is it is linked to her elder son killing his educated wife and then going to jail or something like that.

How come she doesn't get the sort of respect and command over the household like the head of the faily should? (Even if not the head, she is the eldest member)

And why does SS look towards Guruma for guidance when he has his own Maa sitting at home? Is it because Guruma and his thinking pattern is the same while Ghanti Dadi is a positive character?

I know this is a side topic from the storyline, based on a minor character. But I would love to find out what other people think about her. 😊

It would be interesting to know what had happened. I am sure that her son "Shaitaan" Singh has something to do with it. How I hate him. Now he has stooped really low by wanting to kill Pratigya. 😡

I hope the guy playing that evil bearded devil is not like that in real life!

gr8 qstns elle-- a minor character indeed but she is there practically in every frame of thakur house hold scenes--and her silence does wonders--i hope cvs bring a twist behind her silence as well --that wuld be interesting to watch 😊

In a recent convo. between the Senior Takurs, SS spoke about a terrible past with a bit of pride when his older brother's was burnt. Details may be forthcoming. Maybe Ganti Dadi loved that bahu too much that the trauma may have sent her into shock.

Once, Krishna asked her if she was ever going to speak instead of ringing her bell. Since then I have speculated what would happen to snap her out of it. Unless she has turned mute from the shock. She loves Kesar and Prats a lot. She lets Amma boss around but there have been a few instances when she overruled Amma. The time Prats wanted to call home on the day of the pooja. She has been taking in all of Amma's damkis and cruel remarks and could well blast everything off to high skies some day.

It's not like the Takurs are a peaceful, loving family. It's like a war zone in that house some gajab notanki or another every day. Got to take your hat off to someone who can still keep quite in that environment day after day.

Shoudl we put in a request to address Ganti Dadi's past to the POPs? Ka kehti ho?

I think the story behind her silence will come out when SS's sister-in-law comes back to take revenge.... the one he mentioned to Amma a few days ago. Really something terrible must have happened for someone to lose their speech. Maybe SS and his elder brother had a huge misunderstanding and then Ghanti Dadi took a vachan or something that until her kids resolve the matter she won't speak? 😕

One thing I'm sure of is, that her husband must have been thouroughly evil, rude, ruthless for SS to turn out the way he is. All his influence seems to have come from his dad, nothing from the sweetness of his mother. 😆

I say Yes! I hope they are reading this.... She's always there in the background, yet even Piyasiya has more exposure than her 😆 Her and Krishna's conversation was the only meaningful scene of Ghanti Dadi I've seen till now.

Since she never speaks even on such major events like Prats being thrown out of the house, the face-painting scene etc.... it could be she's taken a vow of silence. Perhaps her elder son is in jail since many years.... and she'll speak when he comes back. (I know, I'm inventing silly reasons 😆).... but I do recall Komal once telling the Suxenas about how one of her relatives went to jail for life imprisonment.... could that be SS's brother?

That seems to be the case. Krishna told Prats the night she interfered with Amma getting jootha maar-peet from SS that it was a common occurrance in the family. He mentioned how his grandfather beat Ganti dadi when he was a kid until she passed out. So no wonder SS and Sakthi look at wife-beating as a normal way of life. Krishna seems to have taken after his Ganti Dadi. Amma's brother is a murderer too, Komal proudly shared that news with how her uncle spent 4-14 years in jail and it was not a big thing.

I liked Krishna explaining to Komal that the Saxsenas were terrified of Prof. jail stay bec' it was new to them but he and Komal had grown up in that world of mayhem, jail and murders.
