I didn't want to be the hero's sidekick in a soap: Mishkat Varma
Unlike many of his contemporaries, right from childhood, Mishkat Varma thought of becoming an actor and didn't slap on the greasepaint by chance. His dream seems to have come true now that he's playing the romantic lead in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. Mishkat was in Ahmedabad for a promotional trip. Excerpts from a chat:
Acting happened by chance or by choice?
I always wanted to become an actor. I was obsessed with movies and I couldn't concentrate on studies as well. I studied for 10 hours but, most of the time I was lost in thoughts of becoming an actor. Infact, I was so pathetic at studies that if I used to pass in exams, that was a big surprise for me! But, I could mug up notes and I think that helps me a lot as an actor.
So why did it take such a long time for you to make a debut on television?
I did a bit of modeling for print ads then did some TVC. But, I didn't want to join television as the hero's side-kick. I wanted to bag a lead role and I'm playing the lead in Rajan Shahi's show. And what's making me smile more is that my character is out and out romantic one, just the way I wanted my telly debut to be like. I'm thoroughly happy right now. In future, I wish to do an action-oriented show as well.
Your sister and TV star Mihika must have guided and supported you a lot...
Absolutely. She has been extremely supportive to me since childhood. She was a geek and school captain whereas I was not even school jamadar. (Laughs). She used to help me in my homework, projects, I think I have two mothers because Mihika pampers me more than my mom at times. We share an amazing bond.
And what have been your areas of interest apart from your love for acting?
I love to work out. When I wasn't working, I used to workout 3-4 times in a day. Even now, when I get time, I go for a sprint or jogging at the beach near my home. And that apart, I was also a member of a renowned dance troupe. I have learnt various dance forms like contemporary, jazz, salsa, jive, street jive. I am a foodie and hardcore non-vegetarian. Although, I'm going to try out the Gujarati thali as I prefer relishing the local cuisine of the places I visit.
And what about your love life?
Well, I have no girlfriend right now. However cliched as it may sound, I need to focus on my career right now.
