Nah. I strongly disagree that Oscars are undoubtedly superior to Indian award shows. Of course due to the sheer quantity of them, many Indians award shows are indeed a big joke and farce. However, when we compare Oscars to Indian award shows we fail to realize the fundamental difference between the two. Cinema in India is different. Ours is a completely different culture. The style, the technique, the narrative is different. Why movies are made and whom they are made for is different. Indian cinema is entirely about mass appeal, entertainment value and commercial success. The average mass Indian will always prefer something that makes them laugh and smile rather than a historic biopic or a thought provoking drama. And when you gauge it in terms of mass commercial appeal Indian award shows are fair and objective. No one is claiming to be a major critique of fine cinema. When we put down Indian shows as being inferior to Oscars, we are judging fish on their ability to fly.

Well I would like to point out one thing... It's not HW which is better, but audience which is better than of India. In India, forget about the improvement of quality of movies, it's degrading, getting worse than ever. And about Filmfare... probably when India will have an educated decent audience, something will happen.
P.S. On a side note, I don't think all wonderful movies are ignored. I guess Ship of Theseus has got many nominations, and few years back, Udaan too got enough acclaim.

Lol they really aren't. Jlaw did not deserve that Oscar over Emmanuelle Riva. And Leo was robbed for Eating Gilbert Grape. It's just that the western part of the world has had the reputation of being better than the eastern so people think that since the oscar's are western, they are better. When honestly, they are not.

The film fare awards are biased too. But the critics awards are amazing. They are pretty fair. Plus both cater to different audiences.

And honestly, I think IIFA's are enjoyable. The fact that these superstars are willing to do stupid things to make people laugh is great. I'd much rather take comedy and 100% effort of the bwood actors hosting than the stupid hosting by seth macfarlene and james franco.

I am well educated & consider myself to be fairly decent most of the times😛 but still love to watch masala movies! And what's wrong with them being nominated for awards & winning! Oscars are going mainstream as well as the ratings are falling & they want to attract more younger audiences. Movies may be better in hwd as the budget is higher & the audience taste is different. I don't see why they should copy the same in India. Movie making may be a form of art but at the same time it has to generate money to support livelihoods. Sorry if my post offended anyone, just my opinion!
