This probably has nothing to do with KS, I am hoping that the mods don't lock it, simply because this poem reflects on how the majority of us visit this forum because it's one of our links to keeping in touch with each other!
I dedicate this to a couple of really good writers I know on this forum - they know who they are! This is a poem by me, no plagiarism from anywhere~
It's a little cliched so forgive me if it's silly!!
Persisting in the present
==================
By - SR
To quench an insatiable thirst
And squelch an unbidden wanderlust
I set out to an alien land
To live in unfamiliar places
Far from the known and accustomed
Trees and plants that I know of, now a distant memory
Ashes, Cedars, Pines instead of the Ashokas, Teaks and the Banyans
Magnolias, Cherry Blossoms in place of Plumerias and Hibiscus
The shedding foliage, the spring flowers, and the fall colors
Appealing in their own way
Fruits I long to bite into no longer exist,
Strawberries, Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in lieu of
Guavas, mangos, sitaphals, bers and lychees
Bursting with juice, honeyed with fructose and ripe with sun
Forming fresh new taste buds
The iridescent moonlight and summery sultry breeze
Giving way to incandescent artificial light and concrete freeze
Doors kept opening, new friendships forming
Distances lengthening, phone calls lessening
Still holding on to the fading memories
Yearning for the old
craving for the new
Lost between the two,
Reminiscing the youth
And persisting in the present

The life of a non-resident Indian, a fresh new paradigm in a foreign land!!
