Here's Chapter 1! Thanks for the great response and all your beautiful comments- if anyone wants to teach me how to make a PM list... that'd be fantastic.

I'm going to try and update weekly, although, I'm a student so I don't know whether or not that will pan out. I'm a little unsure of my writing- if anyone is willing to be my beta, and give me chapters a once over and some suggestions before I post, I would be eternally grateful.

Onto the story!

---x---x---

Chapter 1

Rough winds pushed on the sails of the ship, challenging the one at the wheel. The dark, stormy skies pelted harsh rain down on the tanned face of Captain Arnav Singh Raizada. His hair was almost stylishly messy, mussed by the wind, leaving a small piece to rest on his forehead. A nearly transparent white shirt stuck to his well toned chest. It was unbuttoned just enough to reveal a swath of skin colored a perfect brown. The sleeves were rolled up, revealing strong forearms and large, long fingers. His back was ramrod straight, revealing his regal heritage. His face would have been beautiful, if it hadn't been marred by a deep scowl, his eyes holding immense anger for the world.

"Aakash! Get down here! I need someone to help me man the ship. There's another ship in the distance, and we need to take it over. It's the perfect time, because they'll be overwhelmed by the storm. We're severely lacking supplies, and we're too far from any shoreline to go pick up some."

Aakash bounded down to help his brother. While he did not have the same majestic, sharp traits of his brother, Aakash was a more delicately built man. His eyes revealed unimaginable amounts of emotion and knowledge, reflecting his well educated status. His softness and romantic outlook would make any girl swoon, but he never took advantage of this fact. He preferred to remain in the shadows, supporting his older brother.

---x---x---

The brothers maneuvered their ship, the R. S. S. Devi, close to the other mystery ship. Within seconds, they had taken over the steering of the other ship and were close to a complete takeover when a booming voice stopped them.

---x---x---

"Just what do you think you're doing? This is my ship!" Arnav and Aakash smirked, as they turned around. An innocent looking man glared down at them, furious as he surveyed the various shipmates that were tied up around the main deck.

"Since it's so windy out, we thought we'd give you a little assistance in steering, Bhaisaab."

"Don't insult me by calling me brother. How dare you take over my ship? It's unbefitting of someone with a status like you." The brothers froze.

"Our status? We're pirates. That's hardly a status. This is our job, kind sir." Arnav responded, his jaw clenched in anger.

"Pirates? No, you cannot be. Your posture and vocabulary tell me otherwise. You come from a refined family. So why are you out on the seas, making others miserable?" Fury coiled up in Arnav's gaze, and within minutes, he had the man pinned down on the floor, sword at his throat.

"Bhai!" Aakash called out in vain. He shook his head. When his brother was mad, it was impossible to penetrate the bubble he created for himself. Unfortunately, that anger manifested itself entirely too often for his liking.

"How dare you make assumptions about my past? My past means nothing to you, Mister-"

"Nand Kishore Singhania. But you can call me NK."

"Mister Singhania. Like it or not, this ship is mine now, and you would do well to accept that fact."

NK pushed Arnav off before drawing his own sword. The two of them engaged in a tough battle, making rounds of the entire main deck. Aakash watched in shock and horror as Arnav pushed him to the edge of the rails. With one push, NK would be overboard.

"STOP!" A delicate, feminine voice rang out from the shadows. Everyone turned, before they froze at her beauty. Her hair was long and flowing, and fell down to her waist in silky strands. Dark, hazel eyes surveyed the entire command of crew with fury, a familiar angry flower on her face. Her face was rounded, with soft cheeks that had the reddish tint of anger staining them. Her lips were perfectly bow shaped, their light pink color enhancing her pout. Her nose was small and slightly red, turning up slightly at the ends. To the men severely deprived of females out on the sea, she was truly a goddess.

---x---x---

The woman stalked up to Arnav before pushing him away from NK. "Bhaiya, are you okay?" NK gave her a disapproving look.

"Mirchi, how many times have I told you to stay inside when matters like this happen? Fighting pirates is no place for a girl like you."

"Bhaiya, I'm hardly a girl anymore. I'm 21. I think I can handle myself."

"Oh really? Since when have you been trained in the art of sword fighting and savage punches?"

She looked down, slightly embarrassed. Arnav appraised her appreciatively, taking in her stunning features. She was a feisty one, he noted, but that could be changed.

"Suno, what do you want from us? Just take it and go. No use fighting and killing my brother." Arnav was taken aback at the girl's gall. She hadn't even spared him a glance as she tied a white cloth around her brother's arm.

"Listen, you ruined my plan. I was just about to defeat your brother and take over the ship."

"You still can. Who's stopping you?"

"I cannot take over a ship when it's master is still alive."

"Hai, hai, where did all the manners come from suddenly? You have no problem killing to take over, but you won't steal when the master of a ship is still present? How charming." Arnav found his temper rising at her sarcastic tone. His eyes flashed in anger and he took a step closer to her, grabbing her roughly by the upper arm and turning her around.

"Don't talk to me with that tone."

"Kyun? What will you do to me?" Arnav ground his jaw in frustration. This girl was incorrigible. Had she never learned manners?

"I need to kill your brother. So I can take over the ship."

"I will let you do anything but that."

"Fine. If I can't kill your brother and take this ship, I'll need something else."

"I told you, you can take whatever you want."

"I want food, some money... and you."

Thanks for the feedback! I'll send out PMs this time, hopefully it'll work out the way I intend it to. Just buddy me for PMs, I guess? I might choose to do twitter PMs instead, just to make things simpler.

I know the jump from the prologue to Chapter 1 was a little odd- But it will be explained in time. Just bear with it, please- I hope you're still inclined to see what happens.

Without further ado, here's chapter 2!

---x---x---

Chapter 2

"Khushi, this is insane. You cannot go with him. You're 21, and God knows what could happen." NK had tried everything, begging and cajoling Khushi into not going with the man. But when her mind was made up, nothing could change it.

"Bhaiya, this is the least I can do to make up for all you've done for me. You took me in when I had no where to go, and kept me safe. Now, it's time I return the favor."

"Khushi, we're family. That's my job. This is ridiculous. Will you please just put your things back and stay on this ship?"

"And let him kill you? What good is this ship to me without you? Either way, I'll be at his mercy. Only now, you're alive and well as opposed to dead and in the water."

"Khushi..." NK stopped when he saw the determined look on her face. He sighed, knowing his efforts would be futile.

"Suno, at least he's promised that I can write to you and keep in touch."

"Fine. I can see you're not planning on changing your mind. Can I ask you one favor?"

"Anything for you, Bhaiya."

"Can you marry him before you go? I promised Maasi that I would never let your reputation be tainted, and staying unmarried on a ship full of men is the surest way to taint your reputation."

"Reputation? For who?! The nonexistent society we live in? Bhaiya, we live on a ship. In the middle of the ocean."

"Just please, Khushi? For me?"

---x---x---

Within a couple of hours, Khushi found herself on a completely new boat filled with strange men, sindoor in her maang, and a mangalsutra resting on her neck. She chuckled darkly at the circumstances. Life just had a way of putting her down, right as she was finding happiness. To be honest, she was shocked when he had agreed to marry her. It wasn't as if he was the picture of morals.

But he had said yes. It was hardly the wedding she had dreamed of as a young girl. Instead of a gorgeous lehenga studded with diamonds and pearls, she was wearing a simple, red Anarkali suit. She was being pelted with rain as she took the saat phere around the cooking fire. And there was absolutely no love in the eyes of her now husband. All she had found was a cold indifference.

Suddenly, Khushi was seriously regretting her decision to marry him and come aboard this damned ship. She wanted to go back to Bhaiya, back to the ship she called home, and far away from this statue of a man she had married. Khushi had always loved fairytales, but so far, her life was anything but one.

---x---x---

"Bhabi, dinner is served! Are you coming?" Khushi heard the gentle voice of her now brother-in-law. I should have just married Aakash instead of that rakshas Arnav, Khushi thought, mentally berating herself on her choice of man. While Arnav showed absolutely no signs of emotion, Aakash was sweet and kind, and always made an effort to talk to her. He was clearly attempting to make up from the lack of communication his brother displayed. Since she had arrived on this ship, her "husband" had not exchanged a single word with her. Instead, he spent all of his time on deck, or one floor below hers. She had expressly been banned from that floor underneath hers, for no apparent reason. Khushi had always been a curious person, but until she got into the good books of the people aboard this ship, her explorations could wait.

"Bhabi?" Aakash softly opened her cabin door. Khushi turned around, quickly wiping away any semblance of tears that were left on her face.

"Aakash, I'm not really hungry. I'll eat later."

"But... Bhabi, Bhai has specifically said you need to eat. It's been over a week, and you've had nothing but some stale crackers."

"I'll be fine, Aakash. Thank you, though. You have no idea how much I appreciate it." Khushi gave him a weak smile. Aakash sighed in resignation, before turning and leaving.

It's rather odd, Khushi mused, as she sat on her bed, curled up and thinking. If I didn't know better, I would think these were the Malik brothers. They even share the same names as my childhood companions. Arnav and Aakash. Aakash is the same as the one I knew when I was young, but there is no way this is Arnav. The Arnav I knew always had a glint of mischief in his eyes. Not that cold wall this one puts up. Ha, I must be going crazy. I'm probably hallucinating from hunger.

Suddenly, the door flew open. Khushi spun around in shock, only to face the accusing, furious eyes of her husband.

"A-Arnav? Aap? Why didn't you say you were visiting? At least I would have made the cabin a litt-"

"Shut up." Arnav ground out, his eyes flashing in anger. "I specifically told you to eat. And when I went down there today, there was your food. Again. Untouched. Are you trying to starve yourself to death?"

"Why do you care? It's not like you're dying of concern for me." Arnav grasped her upper arm tightly, digging his fingers into her skin. She yelped softly in pain, but he refused to let go. He pushed her up against the wall. Khushi felt her heart rate increase as he glowered down at her. He really was very good looking, Khushi thought, if only he didn't have that permanent scowl carved into his face.

"You are my wife. Whether I like it or not, I have to at least make sure you are alive. I gave my word to your brother that I would keep you safe, and I intend to keep it. Raizadas do not go back on their word. So eat damn it, or-"

"Or what? You've already forced me into coming on this boat, away from those I love. You've made no attempt to even have a conversation with me. You've made a mockery of the institution of marriage." Arnav's grip tightened, and he pushed her further into the wall with force.

"Just shut up Khushi. I didn't ask for a moral analysis of my actions. Eat, or I'll force you to." Khushi stared defiantly at him.

"No." She wrenched her arm out of his grip and stalked to the door. But he was too quick for her. In one leap, Arnav had blocked the door and roughly grabbed her hand. He dragged her to the bed, pushing her down. He grabbed the thali from the table, and ripped a large piece of roti before soaking it in dal. He pushed the piece of roti into her mouth harshly, before repeating the action. Khushi resisted, but she quickly realized he was just as stubborn as she was, and not eating was not a battle she would win.
