Rahul Dravid may return as Rajasthan Royals mentor, Watson captain
New Delhi: Rahul Dravid made his last appearance in competitive cricket on Sunday, where his team Rajasthan Royals lost the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) final to Mumbai Indians; however, it may not be the end of Dravid's association with the Rajasthan franchise that may bring him back as a mentor, team's coach Paddy Upton hinted. "Rahul has been very integral to the way we have set things up at Royals. He is very approachable and we would very much like to have him involved going forward in some way or the other," Upton said. ALSO SEE Timeline: Dravid's legendary career Dravid pushed himself down the order in the final against Mumbai Indians who set Rajasthan a daunting 203 to chase. That speaks volumes about the man who has always kept the team ahead, and Upton concurred. "It's a testimony to the kind of person Rahul is. He said that when we are chasing 12 to 15 runs an over, it makes sense to put other people who are more equipped to do it ahead of him. He was playing his last game, but he put the team ahead of himself," the coach said.

Upton also hinted that Watson may be elevated as captain after Dravid's departure. ALSO SEE Tendulkar inspires me: Dravid"Shane Watson has been there from the beginning and he epitomises the Rajasthan Royals' spirit...He is incredibly good with the younger players and is someone who bridges all the gaps in terms of the diversity of players we have...Maybe there will be someone else, but he would be a candidate [to become captain]."
