Prithviraj Raso - wives

Hi people,

As Lakshmi got the Prithviraj raso and we are learning truth about prithvi, I want to express my feelings abt Prithvi having 7/8 wives!

If it is true that Prithvi married to 8 girls, 3 after kidnapping, against existing wife€™s wish, and that to in a lifetime of 24/30! It€™s too bad and only one thing comes to my mind €" yuk€! Pl. don€™t mind, it€™s solely my feelings and it€™s with no offence to the system of Kings having many raniya!

I feel very strange that how can a Hindu king do this? After all his education did not complete without reading Ramayana and Mahabharata! May be, he was an irresistible king for girls but if Prithvi fell for all the girls!!! Then I€™ll say that the real Prithvi was very different from the Sagar€™s Prithvi, who is truly honorable.

I really wish that this was not true. But anyway, It€™s History. But I hope we are reading the true thing.

Only a small portion of the existing texts is likely to have been part of the original text. Several versions of the Prithivraj Raso are available, but scholars agree that a small 1300 stanza manuscript in Bikaner is closest to the original text. The longest available version is the Udaipur manuscript, which is an epic comprising of 16,306 stanzas.

I think we are just in the first step of our research to get information about the real Prithviraj Chauhan. But Sagar€™s have researched for 10 yrs about it. If they have come to a conclusion that Prithvi had one wife then I want to go with them. I may sound dumb here but I want to say - if the reality is yukky then let me be in fantasy that offers me something good for life!

So Lakshmi, what do you think, the Prithviraj Raso you have got is the 1300 stanza Bikaner manuscript or not? At least we should know that what was written by Chand Bardai and what has been added by others.

Right! But Akbar was not a Hindu king, and Muslim religion allows to have many wives.

but at 5that time 1 man marrying many wives was allowed dont u know that lord krishna had more than 100 wives that too only before he was 38or sumthing n prithvi was such a brave n valiant king any body could hav fallen for him .he cant take the princess away until it is her wish otherwise he would hav committed a sin n rajputs had severe punishments for comitting sins

we don't beleive this since what ever i read about prithvi is that he had only one wife and she sanyogita with whom he eloped.and he love only sanyogita and their love story is famous in the history.he is only one women preson not like other king of that time.

well...ppl...Prithviraj Raso was written by 2 ppl...one was chand badari..(sorry dont know other person's name..)...the other person wrote prithviraj raso after many years of prc death......acc to chand...prc had onl one wife..!...and according to other person he had 7 or 8 wifes!......ppl believe in dese 2 Prc Rasos ....some ppl favor chand and some favor other person...!...!....but dese 2 books r considered as the basic books for prithviraj raso......i came to know abut dis after hours of research on PRC!

Shri Krishna had 16108 wives according to our mythology. 8 were his favs while others were his ranis. 8 were his patranis. he married 16000 daughters of 1 king 😃 lets not compare prithvi's story with mythology. only ram ji had 1 wife sita otherwise all kings in history had several wives. bec. that was a way to befriend a kingdom. by marrying their rajkumari.
