Kher rubs Irrfan the wrong way

On Tuesday evening, Irrfan Khan and Anupam Kher had an ugly spat at a suburban 5-star hotel. The incident happened during a discussion at the curtain raiser of an upcoming awards function.

The two actors, who have been part of several international projects, are nominated for their performances in Special Chabbis and The Lunchbox respectively. It started when Anupam was asked to comment on the nominations. The actor quipped "I would only like to talk about myself, so its only going to be about Special Chabbis."

This rather innocous comment did not go down well with his Apna Asmaan (2007) co-star, who curtly said: "Cinema is not about applauding only one's own self. I disagree with Anupam's viewpoint. We need to praise others too."

To this Anupam shot back, "This is totally out of context. I teach students when to applaud and who to applaud. I have a high regard for those who are nominated in any award function."

When contacted, Anupam told TOI, "My sense of humour should not be misconstrued as a judgment on other people's work." Adding: "However, I took the comment in my stride and later went and gave Irrfan a hug."

Irrfan chose not to respond to our calls and texts.
