See I'm conflicted. I do think Saif is vain and almost screams 'look at me look at me I'm smart'. BUT at the same time I do think he is actually smart. He's just also a little stuck up, and feels he's above his contemporaries so wants to drill it into people's minds that he's different, he's not a 'typical' desi. Which is SO wrong on so many levels, but doesn't retract from the fact that he's smart.

His vanity is extremely unattractive.

With the journalists having guts to challenge him bit. Journalists are freakin spineless. They never challenge actors. I agree they should prod him to go into depth rather than just scratching the shallow surface.

I think they should do that with most actors. Ask Salman why he suddenly became ok with Aishwarya when she married into the Bachchan clan but earlier sl*gged other younger actors off for sucking up to him because they know he has power.

Or Aamir why he refuses to acknowledge the fact that he does plagarise films.

And SRK why he used to harp on about being the only actor who never does intimate scenes, and make light of the CC when he had previously done a film like Maya Memsab.

Amitabh why he follows so many sleazy people on twitter and then demands respect from the masses because he's 'senior'.

Naseer why he's become such a bitter old man. Lol I could go on and on. I wish journalists would challenge celebs instead of stroking their already inflated egos.

On a side note I take back what I said about srk not being as well read. Just googled it and anyone who can talk about douglas adams with some semblance gets a thumbs up on the book front.

Would definitely love sharing the topic link of the books with you. (since it has passed 50-60 pages now) And I'm a journalism student myself, so you can imagine why I take so much interest in this creative aspect of his.

The NDTV Muslim debate was a disaster for me as well for two reasons. One, Shah is not an expert on Islam. So he should not even have been on that show. And even if he was, he shouldn't have been the central focus. Second, he somehow kept giving incomplete answers. I'm someone who hears Shah answer the same question 50 times in each different interview. And sometimes he answers them differently, sometimes briefly, and sometimes in an extensive manner. The NDTV show had a lot of those incomplete brief answers. (the same answers he had given so logically and beautifully in other interviews.) Like if you watch the India Conclave, he talks almost the same theme of Islam but so with so much more intelligence. (also coz he was the sole interviewee and had more time) His other NDTV We The People are all so amazing though. Or any serious and lengthy interview he participates in. The problem with Shah is also that he believes much more in entertaining than coming across as anything else. All he wants you to do is laugh and enjoy anything he participates him. So you really have to look for some serious interviews if you want to experience his world smart side.

Also, just on the side, if you still like watching anything about him, his session at ThinkFest was beautiful. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHoesnLy9FY) Nothing about what were discussing, but a very personal side of his.

And again, I loved talking with you. Such a pleasure.😳

I agree. Friendly debates are always fun though. I googled SRK and books and read the interview where he talks about Douglas Adams, and let me tell you I wont ever say he's not well read again! I saw the pintrest list of books he's read and saw Shauna Singh Baldwin on the list, that won me over! I used one of her books for my dissertation.

Yea the NDTV interview put me of interviews in general for a long time. I was expecting something along the lines of HardTalk and instead watched a train-wreck. That interview genuinely dissapointed me, even the anchor was terrible. I might watch the we the people interview and will check out the link for thinkfest too, it'll definitely be interesting.

I'd love to see that list of books though if you can send me the link pretty please 😊 I love book lists - it's the best way to discover new things to read.

I really enjoyed talking to you to. It's nice having a friendly chat on this forum 😳

Believe it or not, a lot of journalists have the courage to bring that up a lot. The most recent one being at the Aaj Tak summit. You'll usually get two answers: the serious one (and the actual reason) was that the movie's money was literally helping to pay his mother's hospital bills. Sadly, she also died while Shah was still in the process of that movie. (he has given this answer only twice) the non-serious one will be some kind of joke attached to it. Also, he always cites MM as the reason he decided to never do intimate scenes after that. He only started saying it only after MM.

p.s. - the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is his favorite one. Although douglas adams is one of his favorite authors ever😳

lol yes, Barkha was terrible in that show. It's one of those rare SRK interviews which is a hard watch. But yes, please do check the ThinkFest video and even the Yale speech. I hope you like them. And I'll surely pm you the book list😳

Ah ok. That's made me regard him in a better light, I like that he doesn't deny it or lose his cool when being questioned about it.

Haha, yea I read that in his answer! He said it was so good they couldn't do justice to it on film. I really didn't expect him to have read that. Kite Runner yes, but HGTTG no. Pleasant surprise.

If anyone's interested, I find Saif to be so articulate and well spoken.
Intelligence to me is also how one reflects on situations and the ability to criticize oneself.

It's a shorter version of one of my favorite interviews of Saif.
I also really love Burkha Dutt, because she really throws challenging questions at celebs.
