I watched the mess so you don't have to.
First impressions:

Atrociously low budget. I feel bad for everyone involved. They don't even have enough money to pay for a good camera person, the angles are HORRIBLE.

The acting, I can't get past how bad the acting is. ALL OF THE CAST is a pack of bad actors. They should not have quit their day jobs.

The lead actress is old enough to breast feed Jan Di from the Korean BoF. Guise, this is BAD.

The F4 look more like thugs than anything remotely close to desirable.

Quit mark: 7 minutes and 21 seconds.

Maybe I didn't give them a chance but man, what I saw only told me the show is only downhill from here.

I watched so you don't have to. Steer clear of this one guys. You will thank me later.

One good thing: this is NOT a white people fest. The production is diverse with people of color in the main cast. That is applaud worthy and a huge step up from the rest of the network shows who only swoon over loaded blondes. They could learn from this.

nope. thankfully, there is none.

but wait, there is a humiliatingly strange rap song to compensate.

I finally finished after 3.5 hours of splitting my pants in laughter and turning the show on and off. the acting is still bad, the twitter feed says if you donate, they will fix the camera work and lighting. the episode ended with jan di aka zoey getting raped. left a bad taste in my mouth. how are they going to pick this show up now?

Oh God🤣
Why are they asking for donations when the Asians could do it perfectly on their own. I'm going to check it out right now so I can have a little laugh. Raped? OH GOD. This is gonna be worth it I guess😆

Just wanted to point out something..The Zoey is the first episode is only for this episode. They have changed the lead actress that looks more innocent as opposed to a gangster, b/c frankly that is what the current one looks like..From the 2nd or 3rd episode, you will see the new actress I believe is Dawn Morrow will be portraying Zoey..
Coming back to the episode, I would agree on your bad camera angles, and bad editing..But, I really don't have any high hopes or expectations from this one..I am enjoying and laughing out loud at the cheesy moments, as well as at the bad editing.

And, not to be harsh, this is a very small production company..I mean I will give them respect for even trying to make an American Version of BOF..But, at the same time I won't be harsh on them except for the execution in terms of camera angles...They could have done much better on that front.

I know people have high hopes from this one, as they should..But, keeping in mind BOF even in actuality is also very cheesy and unrealistic that is not going to happen in real life to anyone..I will just sit back and laugh out loud at the American Version..It atleast feeds me a good dose of comic relief w/ my American friends..And, trust me they are all going like, "WTH?!! Was this even a huge hit in Korea". They are all put off by the script as well as acting. But, still they are going to watch it b/c heck I mean it is still BOF.

Btw..I kind of like the rap..Isn't it Hook up Hotline by Wordsmith?

For now, I am just going to sit back and just enjoy the flaws of this one..And, hope they improve..But, even if they don't I am having lots of fun just watching it..I will give this 2-3 more episodes, and then judge it a little more critically..B/c hey, it is an American version..I will give them more time..And, even Korean BOF is a remake, so if I was able to stick w/ that version b/c if hot guys, I believe I will stick to this one as well even though I may get angry and frustrated by it..

But, I like the main lead actor Liam..He is very good..I will give him more time to see how he portrays the different kind of shades of his character...But I found him hilarious to watch especially when the boys drank🤣...I will judge them after a few more episodes! Just enjoying the ride for now.

Did not know about the change of the lead actress. Good for them I suppose.
I will cut them some slack for being an indie company. But really, in today's day and age where Bernie Sue made a successful webseries using a single camera, jumpcuts, and crowdsourced funding, there is no excuse for being terrible. If they were going attempt such an ambitious project, they should have dumped some money into the pilot and opened an indie go go as opposed to scattering the thin budget all over the place.
The problem is not so much with the story if executed correctly and right now, I am seeing none of that so my opinion still stands. The production team as well as the actors need to step up their game to look anything more than a bunch of highschoolers doing this as a side project.
Don't know the name of the song, don't care for it either.
They drank? I think I missed that.
I am especially upset by the last sequence. It seems uncalled for. And if distastefully handled, it will only ruin the reputation of an already jaded show.

I agree with the last scene..It did leave a sour taste in my mouth...I wish they hadn't done that scene like that..I mean I have a whole list of complaints for them...But, if they soon don't improve my patience will be wearing thin by then...hope they do..but even then I am not taking it seriously as I should. BOF, I guess will always be remembered by F4 boys of the Korean version..LMH and Kim Bum being the main reason..So, even if any other country remakes it, viewers like us will always be dissatisfied w/ it..That's why I am cutting a lot of slack w/ this one..B/c hell I know fans are blind when it comes to BOF Korean version, and no remake will surpass it, which I suppose is true. I will just enjoy this one while it is on.

Honestly Boys Over Flowers already has a very high standard from all the versions (japanese, korean, chinese) so the American version already had to compete with a lot of expectations and already set standards which was one negative for it.
Plus I totally second your comment about the lead girl looking old (she doesn't have the young girl spark that it the character sketch of Geum Jan Di) but yeah the guys don't look refined/ dignified elite rich boys... they look more like thugs/ something dark and gloomy like the mafia boys!!

Also even I think about the men of BOF, I should just be drooling over their mental picture... they are supposed to be THAT HOT, my expectations were put down. Not interested in this show anymore!!

I completely agree with your post and i actually watch until the 33 minute mark and then fast forward to the 50 minute mark. Zoey...she looks so old! but i fell a little for the actress that was playing Zoey or Jan Di role. sure she was older but she was giving the spunk that the lead girl in the Japanese version gave and the one that Jan Di kind of had in the beginning. the acting in itself had me crying in tears and my stomach hurting. it was too much and it was just as hilarious trying to watch the next bumbling character to the next trying to recite their lines. it was just awful. the only ppl i could actually like where her two friends and their acting was just as horrible but it wasn't as horrible as the others.
the guys themselves were nothing prasieworthy but i will say the guy whose suppose to be Rui was okay-ish i guess but they are nothing like the F4. they look like some old guy, dope druggy guy, Asian guy, and the pervert with a weird ponytail in his hair.

im not going to complain about the lack of students in the school because that was something the korean and taiwanese version suffered through in not having enough students to actually amplify the whole effect. (i personally felt like only the japanese version did such a wonderful job showing it was an actual "school" with an active student body). but it felt like it was only Zoey, her friend, the F4, and the mean girls and that is all. but i do love that there is such a diverse cast and im happy at least they didn't go the easy route that they could have coughed and copped out in doing.

overall im just going to watch this when im stressed or bored to just get a great laugh. its horrendeous but there are small points that had me interested and laughing other from the horrendous acting. i feel like making an American version was never going to work so there was no expectations whatsoever at all...zilch! but i will enjoy the show and let it surprise me along the way
