SRK hammed a lot as Devdas IMO.

As for remake my choices wud be

Ranbir as Dev,Sonam as Paro,DP as Chandramukhi

Ranveer as Dev,Sonakshi as Paro,DP as Chandramukhi

ARK as Dev,Sonam as Paro,PC as Chandramukhi

devdas: nana patekar

I can see Ranveer as Devdas..I feel he can pull it off convincingly. I don't see any of the actresses pulling off the female characters..I honestly didn't even think Madhuri and Ash were all that great in their respective roles.

Ranbir and ARK can be better Devdas than SRK...SRK hammed alot in the film...Personally didnt like his potrayal of Devdas.

I don't see the problem with a remake/new adaptation. It's been adapted several times in various languages and eras anyway; SLB's version was hardly the first remake. It's a great piece of literature so every generation wants to put their mark on it.

That being said, I'd like to see some hatke approaches to the story. Dev.D already gave us a modern version so it's time for something even more different.

How about a gay version? No really it could be interesting. Devdas could be a man who first struggles with his sexuality, being attracted to another man (Paro) and finally comes out of the closet only to be ostracized by society. Paro chickens out and hides behind the veil of a conventional marriage while a tormented Devdas finds refuge in Chandramukhi, a bisexual male prostitute with a heart of gold. He still yearns for Paro and ultimately it all ends in tragedy. Done right it could be Bollywood's answer to Brokeback Mountain.

Paro: Ranbir Kapoor
Chandramukhi: Ranveer Singh




Or we could have a sci-fi version. Set in the future at a time when aliens have started living in the solar system but humans are very xenophobic in nature. Devdas is an alien who falls in love with a human Paro and is tortured and driven out. He is helped by Chandramukhi, a human who belongs to an underground movement trying to end the xenophobia and who also starts falling for the tragic Devdas. Throw some Beauty and the Beast parallels in there too and it could be an interesting story.


Cast:
Aamir Khan would be ideal for the alien Devdas. Not sure yet about Paro and Chandramukhi. Sonakshi and Deepika?

I don't know...I wouldn't want to see Ranbir Kapoor as Devdas, and I don't think the actresses have it in them to play Paro and Chandramukhi convincingly, barring Sonakshi.

I love SRK so original with SRK...if I had to replace him than Abhay Deol...Deepika as paro and PC as madhuri but then madhuri's dance was amazing so keep her in the dhol song
