Teen Marriages

Still, in many rural area of Pakistan and India, teen marraige or even child marriage is done. Children, at the age of 5-6 are already married or atleast decided whom they are going to marry. This practice is carried out by certain tribes in many areas of Asia. Girls are not allowed to gain education and are married of to man 20 years older to them. Many parents are even forced to marry their sons/daughters to thier sisters son/daughter or they will be thrown out of the tribe. My questions are:

What are your thoughts on it?

Should the government stop it?

Who suffer the most from this practice?

ok, i have seen in movies that when kids are just born, the two close families will already get the kids married while they are still sleeping in cradles. by the time the kids are grown up and they tell their parents that they have found their beaus, the parents remind them that they are already married. that to me is shocking, i wonder if that kind of marriage still exists . coming back to your questions, this type of marriage when a girl is 5 or 6 years old and getting them married to a guy who is 20 years older than her is indeed shocking . how can a girl of 5 yrs get married, when she is still learning to talk and walk figuratively. is the guy going to babysit her? kids at such age are still learning, will the kid understand its role as a wife?😕 girls at this age are supposed to have the freedom to play like that of the boys. only after the age of 18, since in most places they are ok to get married at this age and that too by their consent they can marry and by their choice. when girls are already married as kids, they are not given the choice of their partners. i guess this type of feat is similar to child labour. in both cases, you are sweeping away the kids right.

I hate these kind of traditions! why don't people think about such things rationally? I mean look at it this way, if you marry them so young, they'll probably growup and become completely different people. Then what are you gonna do? They'll fight, the family will fight, and there goes your so called great "rista" for lifetime. I don't think anyone should be married until they are about 23 or older and completely educated, so that they can make right decisions for themselves. And they can make their decisions properly and intelligently. As for stopping these marriages, the govt. has to take steps to stop them. One way to stop them is to have a free education and a law for kids to be educated until a certain age of atleast 16, like it is in other countries. Yes, it is sad that still today people don't let their girls be educated. I think the govt. nees to take more initiative and educate the girls. I remeb. my mom used to teach in this village way back and they would go around and recruite kids to be educated for free atleast until 12th grade. Because I believe as long as they are studying, they won't be married, so that is one way to prevent child marriage. The indian govt. really needs to do something about it, and actually force it instead of just writing it on a stupid page and not doing anything 😡

That's a very valid point in the prevalent scenario.

yah, thats the point, plus i think ke v shud stop looking at the govt.to do everything for us,its ur duty to help the govt.to strictly enforce the laws, its us,the people who can stop all these things, govt.is there to help us.............power ka mis-use tabhi hota hai jab humlog us power ke aage succumb ho jaate hai..............jis tarah constitution ne humko rights diye hai usi tarah kuch duties bhi di hai,but humlog badi convinently duties bhul jaate hai bas apne rights ki baate karte hai...........v,the people shud help urselves if v want to strictly enforce the laws.............

Agree with that👏👏👏
