Pulling the plug
It's the season for replacing shows across channels. This time it's Sahara One's turn to design a new programming menu. The channel has decided to replace the long running show Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai from April. The creative director of the show, Muava Sen, says, "The show has been a great success story for the channel. But ever since its timing was changed from 9.30 to 10 pm, it hasn't delivered on the TRP front.
" We have a running contract with the channel that terminates in the first week of April. So, we've mutually agreed to wind up the show by then and have already informed our cast about this." The show launched in November 2005 has completed around 350 episodes. It features actors Ami Trivedi, Amit Verma and Dimple Inamdar.
Ami, who plays the lead protagonist Kittu, says, "That's sad since I've forged a deep bond with my character, the cast and the crew. I will miss it terribly." The channel is trying to rope in more such themes to augment its prime time slot.
Kalyan Sundaram, the programming head of Sahara One, says, "Kittu... has been one of our successful shows. It's a fact that the show is going off air. It has run its course. It's better to end it on an upbeat note than to carry on with drab storylines."
Ask him which show will replace it, and he says, "For starters, we are planning to shift Comedy Champions from the 10.30 pm to the 10 pm slot. "We're in discussion to come up with a good concept to replace Kittu... Nothing has materialised till now but we will be shortly freezing a deal on that."
