Chapter 9
" Taani ... " He stood up, tried to keep up with Taani who was walking as fast as she could. He held her hand, and tried to apologized but she collapsed in his arms.
" Taaanniii " He screamed fearing the worst.
He ran to her as fast as he could and he held an unconscious Taani in his arms. Suddenly Swayam entered.
" Rey where are you- " He was cut short when he saw the scene around him. A beaten and unconscious Avi, the room all messed up and Taani in Rey's arms almost fainted and Rey crying. He knew something terrible had happened. He ran over to Rey.
" Rey, what happened here? And why is Taani unconscious? " And he went on asking him questions and all he received was silence filled with Rey's tears.

Doctor Joshi, a renowned doctor and Rey's family doctor was fortunately in town. He immediately agreed to come over and check on Taani who was still unconscious. She had been taken to the bed by Rey, her wounds were cleaned mostly by Rey's tears which didn't seem to stop. Swayam stood bewildered and he didn't have the courage to do something for he knew he was guilty. Not only Him, but everyone had made a huge mistake by trusting Avi over Taani. As a consequence they feared if they would loose Taani. And Rey for that matter would be broken and shattered if that happened.
As the door bell rang, Swayam pushed his thoughts aside and went and opened the door and greeted Mr Joshi inside. Rey stood up and shacked hands with him. Mr Joshi, who had never seen a crying Rey was at first shocked. Then he recovered realizing the person lying unconscious on the bed would be of great importance to Rey. He kept his stuff aside and started checking Taani. After 10 minutes of check up, he stood and said,
" I'm sorry to say but she's in shock. Lately as I can see, she has been under great pressure. The dark circles around her eyes and her pale face confirm this. I can also claim that if she does not eat well, she can be anorexic. The bruises on her arms and legs are not that serious though they would hurt once she gets up. I suggest that she should rest as much as possible and at any cost, she shouldn't take any stress or else it can prove to be a danger for her health. These are some medications. Give this to her at timely period. And 1 more important thing. She HAS to give up drinking or it can be hazardous to her health. I hope and pray she gets well soon."
Rey and Swayam were rooted to the spot. Neither of 'em did something, they just stood, guilt-ridden.
She had been under pressure and stress due to them. She had started drinking a lot due to them. She stopped eating becuase of 'em. And even Avi had committed such a heinous crime because of 'em.
Swayam was the first one to move and Thank Mr. Joshi and escorted him to the door. As he came back, he saw Rey kneeling on the floor and crying as if he had lost a part of him. Swayam immediately ran towards him and tried to comfort him.
" Its all because of me, Swayam. Everything ! I never believed her. Oh gosh. I believed that bas***d over my Taani. Wait, MY? Do I even have that right after what I've done? Swayam, I don't wanna lose her. I really can't live without her. Please, do something."
And he cried. Swayam knew that Rey was vulnerable and needed someone. But now, instead of caring about his friends, he needed to look after his sister whom he had neglected and ignored for such a long time.
" Rey, if you'll break down there's no way Taani would recover. So get up. " Swayam said trying to hide the doubt in his voice.
" Swayam, can you do me a favor? " Rey said wiping his tears.
" Yes. " Swayam replied not sure of what Rey was going to ask.
" Leave me and Taani alone in this house for sometime. " Rey said looking over to Taani. He didn't know if Swayam the possessive brother would do so but he asked him anyway.
" Yes, Sure. " Swayam understood that Rey wanted to comfort her and apologize to her. And most importantly, in this state Taani required Rey the most.
So willingly, he left to give this news to everyone.
In her sleep, Taani shifted her position uncomfortably. She continued to move untill she found solace in Rey's arms. Rey laid down on the bed and Taani, in her sleep moved towards him. Rey put his arms around her and closed his eyes.
In the middle of the night, Taani again started shifting. By her actions, Rey knew she was having a nightmare or a bad dream. Suddenly Taani started mumbling, " Rey don't leave me. Please, I can't live without you. Rey, I'm telling you the truth. Believe me. For gods sake, he lying ! Reyy" She screamed and woke up. She was sweating and her eyes were filled with tears.
Rey was initially numb for He had broken her heart. She was shattered and destroyed. The extents of his guilt was increasing with every passing minute. Her sobbing brought him back to the brutal reality.
He moved forward and hugged her, " Taani, stop crying. I'm here and I won't leave you. I promise you that. I love you, okay? So stop crying. " He comforted her in every way he could. She hugged him tighter and after 10 minutes she was asleep. His shirt was wet due to her tears but he didn't care. He made her lie on the bed, and once again with a heavy heart saw her face. Dark circles formed beneath her eyes. She had gone a bit anorexic. Bruises were on her arms and legs. And a big scar on her left eye brow. A stand of hair came forward on her face. He moved it aside and as his fingers touched her smooth face, he felt a current passing through him. He hugged her again and held onto her. He comforted her as if he was comforting a broken doll. She was, indeed a broken doll and he was culprit. With all these thoughts, he fell asleep hugging Taani.

Rey was the first one to wake up and he found himself hugging Taani as he was in the night. He saw a sense of comfort on Taani's face and felt relieved.
He realized that Taani would be hungry once she woke up, so he went to the kitchen to prepare something.
Taani, on the other hand woke up with her head paining horribly. 'Damn you, hangover' she thought. But she was used to this. Every morning she woke up and foung her head paining due to the excessive alcohol she consumed every previous night. She had made a hell out of her life and she had to improve it. She had to change and in that moment, she decided to stop caring about Rey, Swayam and her so-called friends. She had to, no matter how hard it seemed.
Little did she know of what the future had planned for 'em.
