i didn't know he was in the serial 24 😲

Lingo logic
That most of Bollywood's new-gen actors learn their Hindi lines from a script written in English is old news. Bangalore lad Kiran Srinivas, who is riding on the success wave of 24, has taken the language adjustment one step further " writing his Hindi lines for his role of a teenager in Channel V's new show Paanch in Kannada, and then rehearsing. Srinivas bagged the role during his stint in a production house called Sunshine Films. He told the diarist that the success of 24 has got him noticed " he even got a call from director Mohit Suri's office. He's also glad that his Hindi wasn't thickly accented during the show. Ask him if he will be signing films soon, however, and he responds with a trite "It's too early to say. I am meeting people." Films may or may not happen, but the boy has certainly learnt to spout the right brand of diplomacy required to survive in the industry, we see.

he has been a good actor in sandalwood, but luck didn't favour him there

Filmmakers here are racist: Kiran Srinivas

Prathibha Joy, TNN Jul 30, 2011, 12.00am IST
(Kiran Srinivas )

In the time since his debut Haage Sumane, which failed to create ripples at the BO, Kiran Srinivas has been trying to find a foothold in Sandalwood.

But despite his best efforts, the kind of work that he wanted to do to make an impression just didn't come his way. "There are two kinds of work, you can do anything that comes your way for the money and to stay in circulation or do only that which appeals to you. The latter didn't happen to me. I waited long enough and was prepared to work my way up. But now, I don't see myself doing work here," he laments.

Weren't things finally working out for him when he had four films in hand recently? "Things did look bright for a brief period. Two films were released, which didn't do too well at the box office and two more are ready for release. Nothing's happened since then and only my reality TV show has been keeping me busy." adds Kiran.

But more than the lack of good projects, the bigger problem, says Kiran, is that producers continue to tell him that he doesn't appear like a "local boy". "Filmmakers here are racist. My skin colour works against me. I have been told that my looks and complexion are very non-Kannadiga," he says.

And so, the actor's finally ready to bid adieu to this industry and try his luck up north, where's he's currently signed up for a project with Yash Chopra's production house. "This is the right time to start in Mumbai. It could be a struggle, but I'm young and can battle it out slowly. At the moment, I have one project in hand, although I signed up for it some time ago. The production house has told me that they have something lined up for me in September, so I am leaving for Mumbai on Sunday. I will need a month of accent modulation training and so on," says Kiran.

It isn't a complete goodbye to Sandalwood yet, adds the actor. "I still have two films up for release " Kanchana and Veera " and I am quite excited about the former. Kanchana, which also stars Diganth and Ragini Dwivedi, is an unusual comedy, with a lot of situational humour and should be out at the end of August. But right now, the offers from Bollywood are far more encouraging.

I have signed up with a talent agency and positive news has been coming in," says the actor, who's also looking at widening his horizon by foraying into direction. "I'm a film buff. Movies are my life and I'd like to get behind the camera. Someday I will come back to Bangalore and make a Kannada movie," he signs off.
