Signs of a Married Woman

I'm pretty sure you have all noticed that Tara does not wear a mangalsutra or use sindoor, the two main signs of a married woman for most Hindus (besides a ring). Its not just Tara, but also Nimmo and Meethi as well. I find that really surprising since most serials, if not all, place a huge importance on both when it comes to marriage. I can't think of any show right now that shows a married women without at least one of the married symbols. Maybe it's because they are considered high-society and modern, therefore these traditional symbols do not apply? Or maybe they are just trying to represent the average married Indian woman, since in real life, some women do not wear them on a daily basis. For example, most Punjabi women do not wear these symbols, and the ones that do are actually the young wives who have been influenced by TV serials. Same goes for the city-dwellers. Some of these women tend to only wear them on a special occasion, but many don't even do that.

Agree...and it works...nothing is traditional here apart from Mrityunjay Singh Shekhawat!

Even the outfit word by the women are not traditional. Especially Nirmala who is all modern and does not expect her DILs to do so..

Unlike other serials the MILs are overly done...and the DIls are expected even to cover their heads all the time.

I think its nice to see a change. In other serials when they say they are modern they r still heavy jewellery and saree clad it's nice to see a mil who is not wearing saree or heavy jewelleries on day basis. Sometimes I feel suffocating seeing them wear all heavy make up and going to sleep. EBI is trying to make things normal as much as possible. But having said that I wud love to see Tara wear mangasutra and sindoor for once maybe for karva chauth.

Well in real life many women are not obliged to wear these things... but newly wed girls do wear chura, sindoor, etc for few months & after that they are allowed to remove bulky stuff... this kind of dress code is applicable only to tv serials... humesha aise saji rehti hain jaise koi festival ho... 😡🤢

I think it is a matter of personal preference. In today's time, where do you see women using sindoor and mangalsutras on a daily basis? Of course, they'd probably use it in the initial few months of their marriage, and then once that's weaned off, maybe for traditional functions and religious ceremonies. Times have changed and I am glad that shows these days are showing that women are not following the supposed traditional societal norms of using the mangalsutra and sindoor in the shows.

It is nice to see a change from the norm on the other serials. The family have been portray as ultra modern high society people.

It is actually refreshing to see them not wearing any sindoor or mangalsutra!!!!!😊 😊

its nice to see them clothes that are more comfy, wearing mangalsutra and sindoor is personal preference (I see that with Gujaratis)
