Rebelde features a very large number of plot lines, many of which are apparently ignored for dozens of episodes before they are resumed. Also, many of the minor characters often play central roles for a single episode before returning to the background. Some of the major characters are:
* Mia Colucci — quintessential daddy's little girl. (Tia)
* Celina Ferrer — overweight girl who has an eating disorder, and often wallows in self-pity because she never has a boyfriend. (Pri)
* Vico — Mia's friend, with a reputation for being easy. (maher)
* Roberta Pardo Rey — rebellious daughter of a famous singer, Alma Rey. (ashi)
* Jse Lujn Landeros — quintessential female athlete, raised in foster care. Her tuition is paid by a mysterious anonymous benefactor. (mp)
* Guadalupe "Lupita" Fernndez — shy girl who is close friend of both Roberta and Mia, who are arch-enemies. (vrinda)
* Miguel Arango — has a sister in Monterrey, Nuevo Len (Mexico) whom he can never afford to visit because he is on a scholarship (meaning his family is not very wealthy). Also for this reason he is harassed by a secret society of alumni known as "La Logia". (ranvir)
* Diego Bustamante — has problems standing up to his chauvinistic, domineering father, who disapproves of his musical ambitions. (yuvi)
* Tefilo "Teo" Ruiz-Palacios — quintessential nerd, who is given to panic attacks and often uses an inhaler. He has a hard time dealing with the truth that his brother died due to drug addiction, and that his parents are in denial about it. (varun)
* Nico — Jewish guy who is pressured by his family to dump his Catholic girlfriend (Lupita) in favour of his childhood sweetheart. (aman)
* Giovanni — Bleached-blond boy who hides his low-class parentage. (nakul)
* Pilar — daughter of the director of the school, who is disliked by most of the other students for that reason. At the beginning of the story she used to write – anonymously – a newspaper filled with gossip called Annimos ("anonymous"). (latty)
* Enrique Madarriaga — bohemian foreign professor who is always trying to solve everyone's problems.
* Director Pascual — power-hungry head of the school who often takes pleasure in the misfortune of the students. (jumbo)
* Esteban — the prefect of the school. Very strict, keeps harrasing Jse Lujn and Vico. Has a crush on Mia and Alma Rey. Could be an ex-convict serial-killer. He was finally expelled from the school and left the series.(arjun)
* Gastn — the new prefect, who is as unpleasant as Esteban. He has a huge crush on Mia, and they finally become lovers to the disapproval of Mia's father. (no idea who this is)
