With the godlike statuses of SRK, Aamir and Salman, with their zombie-like fan following, should such star celebrities who wield such popular mass appeal and influence, take a more active role in social and political matters for the improvement of society? I'm not talking about giving money to a few charities, anyone can do that, but become an active participant in the process to redress the fundamental problems of the system?, afterall, this is a democracy.

Should such popularity and appeal come with responsibility, or even a moral obligation towards society?

Instead of endorsing cooperate products that people don't need, or dancing at weddings, or charging astronomical fees for flirting with BB contestants, why not channel that popularity and influence for something good of the society? why not do something useful?

Only if they possess the will and if they have the ability to.
not only fame makes you a good politician.
you ought to think for your country, people rather than for your own sake.
and use the money in a better way rather than filling their pockets.

but they are not obliged to.

post satyamev, amir could have easily entered politics. He could easily have won.

No I don't think so...India is already in a bad state as far as politics is concerned...who needs more half baked politicians...Humari country ki sabse badi tragedy yahi hai...ki people don't choose politicians based on merit but rather on their fame...jo jara sa famous hua...who politician banne chal deta hai...why?? Politics is just another and very important profession where we need QUALIFIED people...not any aira gaira nathu khaira...These big movie stars are business men they are not politicians...you need a different mind set for that...
Do u think that if SRK and Salman stood in elections...they won't win...they will win by a landslide...but what then??? Can they run the country...I don't think so...So let them do what they are good at...Indian politics doesn't need them...we need qualified people...not actors...
EDIT...I wouldn't mind these actors to do shows like Satyamev Jayate though to raise awareness...

I think they should become involved in social awareness programs. They should become the face of campaigns.
Like Priyanka, Kareena, Kalki, Jacqueline, Farhan have all associated themselves with the campaign for womens safety.

Celebs actually have alot more influence and power than they realise, that can be put to good use.

The smaller celebs, like Dia Mirza, Vivek Oberoi etc tend to get quite involved with campaigns.

most of the huge stars only give a special screening to disabled people/ underpriviledged kids or something only when a film is about to be released.

I think you went off on a bit of a tangent. 😆... you don't have to be a politician to get involved in politics, and I never suggested a career transition or running for PM 😆... India already has many highly qualified politicians, so that's not really the problem.

All I'm saying, is given their enormous popular appeal, they could utilise that power in more constructive and fruitful ways. If like you said that SRK and Salman could win elections, then why not use that sort of influence to support the right candidates?, they can use that influence to support social programs, do more shows like Satyamev Jayate to raise awareness, a lot can be done.

Afterall, why do companies hire stars to endorse their products?, it's because they know the products will sell. Why not use that star power for a more beneficial use? Ofcourse they don't have to, but they are what they are because of the country.

Shah has answered this question countless of times. And he has one of the most logical and brilliant answer as to why he can never get into politics.

This is such a great point. At the end of your life when you're on your death bed I would assume one would want to feel useful. The last thing on your mind would be fame, money, or the amount of work you put in.

I think with actors they chase money, success, fame, glamour. It would be wonderful if they channeled all their energy (the power that comes with fame) for the benefit of the society.

Nope. For they can manipulate and motivate a huge amount of people for the wrong reason.

Anyone remember what Big B did when Indira Gandhi was assassinated?

There were quite a few celebrities that stood up against Delhi's gang rape last year. I'm not sure how much of an impact that had considering the whole country was against it, but I liked how they got involved too.

Mard is a great initiative by Farhan Akhtar. I think he decided to create it after what happened to a lawyer working on his set.

These are minor initiatives, but they are trying to bring about change. Big B is a prime example of someone really stupid who misused his position & power! 🤢
