Kissing scenes not required in Indian films: Saif Ali Khan
Actor Saif Ali Khan, who locked lips with co-stars in "Hum Tum" and "Salaam Namaste", believes Indian movies can do without kissing scenes as it doesn't "suit us".

During a conversation on TV show, host Anupama Chopra asked Saif about a statement that he and his now wife Kareena Kapoor gave before marriage - about a commitment that there won't be any kissing onscreen for either of them.

Chopra asked Saif if there are any other rules as actors that the couple has imposed on each other.

He said: "No. I wouldn't even say that's in place. I don't think it's a function of being in a relationship. I have done films like 'Salaam Namaste' a long time ago. In India, it is not required in our films to have kissing scenes. I don't think it's required to be overly sexual. It doesn't suit us."

Kareena has also kissed on screen in "Tashan", "Jab We Met", " 3 Idiots" and "Heroine". But her husband believes "it doesn't work onscreen".

"Nobody looks comfortable doing it. And slowly, slowly reports filter through that when somebody has tried to be a little risque, that people don't seem to like it. I think the kind of cinema we have, we are a hypocritical culture.

"You can talk about things, you can see Hollywood movies, but if a kiss or a lovemaking scene is presented in a way that doesn't make you uncomfortable, it's much easier for everybody to watch," added the actor, who is the son of actress and former censor board chief Sharmila Tagore.

Saif now has strong opinions about kissing on camera.

"I would not like to kiss onscreen because I think it's not required. It's not done well enough. And there are few times onscreen that a kiss is warranted and when it is, it should be done in a way that it means everything. But our culture is about not kissing in public.

"We don't show affection in public. You're not meant to be kissing in the car. It's illegal apparently. Policewaalas will come knock on the glass, right? So I think culturally, it doesn't work. And there's no need for it," he said.

But he had kissing scenes or atleast cheat kissing scenes in Cocktail.
PS: Nawab also doesnt want BW films apparently.

I don think Saif is trying is say that kissing scenes are derogatory to Indian culture😕 I thought he mentioned about the Indian society and culture being hypocritical & not exactly receptive to these kinda things? And the fact that its not done well or the way it needs to be done in Indian movies? Thats what i understood from the interview😆 On that note, i do think Bollywood sucks when it comes to passionate or raunchy scenes..It ends up being awkward in a lot of movies😆

If the media don't have anything better to write...they should just shut the hell up...

I hate the fact that they compare or try to replace a current gen couple to legendary couple of BW...

Seriously I like RS-Deepika chemistry or RK-Deepika chemistry but they are nowhere near SRK-Kajol as Raj-Simran n Salman-Madhuri as Prem-Nisha...being physical n all those kissing scenes are not chemistry

Chemistry should touched the hearts of audience in the most subtle manner...n the current gen couples have none in them...they can be icon to the current gen but definitely nowhere near the legendary jodis of BW whom we grown up watching

whoever the writer is just STFU ok..
noway, i can ever forget Raj-Simra, or Prem-Nisha, or Rohit-Sonia, Rahul-Anjali, LaPooo ..none..
RL might be good or whatever in its own merit, but can never replace the iconic couples i grew up watching... Bhansali needed a hit, and he added some lusty moments, not a problem, there r ppl who loved it m sure.. but plss refraine from equating with my favourite couples.. damn u writer.

nd moreover, RL doesnt even come clos eto Nandoo-Sameer of HDDCS then what to compete wid my Raj-Simran..

like kuch bhi dimag mein aya tou likdete ho kya..

no offence i felt even Rahul-arohi of Ashiqui 2 was so much so much nd so much better nd more impactful than what RL was.. in order to show some sort of passiont bhansali took the rout of lust or whatever, nothing worked for me in d film except that the leads acted very good.. but i guess thats only me , many liked d film..

PS:- physical proximity or intimacy is not what chemistry is, ye sthat is just one of the factors overall... i just cudnt connect to the characters mainly becos of the forced physical scenes.. they seemed gross and too much crassy for my taste, i prefer something subtle, touchy and equally romantic in flavour..

Chal hatt...to the writer of this article...
No one replaces Raj-Simran...although DDLJ is one of my least favorite movies of Shahrukh and I don't like Kajol...but the fact is that Raj-Simran cannot be replaced...The innocence of Raj-Simran cannot be replaced...
