Why Pulkit refused to dance

While the Balaji brigade, danced at the recent bash hosted by producer Ektaa Kapoor to celebrate the new generation launch of 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', actor Pulkit Samrat sat away from the madding crowd.

When quizzed Pulkit who plays Lakshya in the 20-year leap explained, "I love dancing. I have trained in kathak, folk and tandav nritya. I have even performed break dance. But I am suffering from slip disc and have a nagging pain." He continued, "I would have loved to dance with my co-stars (Mouni Roy, Reshmi Ghosh, Amita Chandekar). I don't want to aggravate my condition." Nevertheless, the ailment could not prevent the committed actor from shooting action sequences in the show.

Pulkit continued, "I am thrilled with the response that I have got for playing Lakshya. I'm grateful to Ektaaji for making me hot property overnight." Already being hailed by fans as the small-screen's answer to Emran Hashmi and Shahid Kapoor, the star-aspirant confesses, "I would be lying if I said that am content doing only TV. Of course it's the best medium to expose your talent. But doing meaningful films is my main aim. Also, some day I would like to play a psychic," he shrugs.

Pulkit waves his magic wand!

The actor is also a magician who loves to play tricks on his co-stars on the sets of 'Kyunki...

He has already cast his spell on viewers. Pulkit Samrat aka Lakshya (Ganga and Saahil's son) in 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi...' is a magician in real life. Magic is his passion besides acting. "I have been learning the art of magic since childhood and following people's lives who are inventors and great psychologists. Believe me, I have never been to any magic show and I am not into basic stuff like producing flowers or pigeons at the drop of a hat," he says.

The actor has even made a name for himself on the sets of 'Kyunki...' by showing his skill. The list of the spectators includes actors Ronit Roy, Sandeep Baswana, Sumeet Sachdev, Mouni Roy, Reshmi Ghosh, Reva Bubbar to name a few. As the actor recalls, "One day, Sandeep Baswana (Saahil), Ronit Roy, Sumeet Sachdeva and I were relaxing after the shoot. I asked Sandeep to pick up a card from the pack I had. He chose a card. Then I told him to memorise the number on the card and concentrate. Ronit was smoking and there was an ashtray beside him. I picked up a little ash and asked Sandeep to continue his focussing on the card. I gave him the ashes and told him to rub it on his arm. The ashes formed eight (8) on his arm. I did not even touch him in the process," the actor says. What was Sandeep's reaction to the incident? "Sandeep, like the others present was taken aback," says Pulkit. When contacted Sandeep says, "I am a proud father (laughs). I was awestruck; he's knows magic, just like any professional!" Sumeet Sachdev, who was also present on the sets, says, "It awesome. The 'ash magic' on Sandeep left me stunned and I continued to think about it for a long time."

A great fan of David Lean and Chris Angels, Pulkit adds, "People often think David Lean is crazy. But, that's what makes him stand out in a crowd. As for me, the art of magic always enticed me and I used to go on the street and choose people randomly. I have done mind reading with people on the streets. I remember a woman calling me a ghost," he says. According to Pulkit, magic is a special art if you know the science behind it. I love to create illusions. All you need is sheer concentration. It's all about making people believe what is not there," he says.

The actor has DVDs of his street shows, he did earlier and would love to do a TV show as well.

"I can't do David Lean kind of stuff. But I am preparing myself for a blind fold," Pulkit says

Pulkit's not going great!!

The winner of last year's best fresh new face award, Pulkit Samrat better known for his character of Lakshya in Kyunki Saas Kabhi Bhi Bahu Thi is not a very happy man these days. The actor is suffering from back ache and has to go through a lot of ordeal while shooting for the daily.

When contacted the actor says, "I have been suffering from back pain for some time. I even went to Dubai to get treated but have not fully recovered. Even on the sets I cannot remain standing for a long time. It's become a problem while shooting long sequences."

Talking about his show, the actor adds, "I am thankful to Balaji for giving me a role that has been well received by the audiences. At the moment I cannot think of new projects as my schedule is quite hectic these days."

The actor is also worried about his work-out sessions. Adds Pulkit, "Ever since my acupuncture treatment in Dubai, I have been strictly advised to stay away from gymming for some time. Though I miss my work-outs badly, but I guess things would be better soon."

With a face that has won him many fans and great histrionic skills, Pulkit is surely one of the most wanted actors in the industry today. We hope that he recovers soon to keep his fans entertained.
