I've gone back to watch episodes from season 1 and 2 and realize that the character of Elena was poorly written. But even though she was poorly written and mainly one dimensional, I did find her compassion, concern, and caring nature admirable. Somewhere along season 3 and then completely in season 4, I just started despising this character.

That's what i'm saying. The Elena in season 1 and 2, was selfless. She was someone who, because probably had suffered a great loss, was always there for the people around her. The Elena with Stefan put her friends first, that however good her relationship with Stefan was, she was willing to sacrifice it all if it meant protecting her friends and family. She was an amazing sister and a good friend and she was someone who was able to look beyond the obvious nature of a person and give that person a chance. But somehow along the way, post her transition into vampirism, she started becoming selfish from selfless, mean and self-centred. It was almost as if she changed so she would start complementing Damon rather than Stefan. Embrace her dark side more than her good. And after a point, from deserving the love of both the brothers, she just stopped being the person who would deserve either one of their love.

Right now, I don't even care anymore for Stelena. They are dead for me (well actually Elena is, Steffy is still my fave). I remembering coming across this on Tumblr and I wholeheartedly agree - "Stefan may have been the best choice for Elena, but she is not the best choice for him." Elena kept saying how Stefan respected her choices even though he didn't agree. His instincts were to protect her, he was the perfect boyfriend, then what was the reason to choose Damon? I mean, she's with Damon she should stick to Damon. Why flirt with Stefan, why tell him he was an amazing boyfriend, why get jealous if she thinks he's getting romantic with someone else? Just stop chasing after his ass already!

I don't know what the writers are going for. And i've read the books. In shadow self when she falls in love with Damon, she embraces his dark side so that she can show him the light. It is actually quite beautiful and poignant, the way they describe her looking at Damon like a small child crying for love entrapped in his own guilt so that no one can get to him. I was like - WOW.. its amazing to read. But here, Damon comes off looking a white fluffy pillow next to her. They have to start changing that. The whole sire bond thing that they brought in between has just shown to me that Elena of her own free will never loved Damon. A lot of the things that she did and said were because of the sire bond. Her choice of lifestyle and the way she became was because of the sire bond. And it saddens me that to show Elena falling in love with Damon, they had to change her into someone else, while for me there was no real need for that. She could have fallen in love with Damon just the same. In fact the entire season 4, I saw Stefan being her better choice and not Damon. Her reasons for choosing Damon were stupid. - In death you made me feel the most alive? Its like saying that one boyfriend of yours advices you to embrace your dark side - kill if you have to - because hey, thats your nature right? And then you have this other guy who says, - no dont do it. You are better than that. Who will you chose? The guy who teaches you how to kill, or the guy who sees the good in you and tells you not to? Thats why I could never understand. And thats why I dont understand what the hell people mean when they say that Stefan doesnt love her enough because he cannot accept her in all her forms. I mean hello! the fact that he doesnt, makes him her better choice.

Also, I do get a kick out of jealous Elena, but it's just become annoying. I remember her telling Stefan to move on. So if he does, or even tries to, why does she keep thinking it's because he hates her or he wants revenge from her? I hate this "Me, me, me" thing she has going on.

We are going to see more of jealous Elena, trust me. This Stefan Elena thing isnt over.

I heard there might be some Steroline this season and I'm perhaps the only one in the forum thrilled about it. I want to see what Madame Elena thinks of Steroline? All the other girls who showed interest in Stefan were all bad choices according to Ms. Gilbert so what about Caroline? Rebekah tried to kill her, Kat tried to kill her, Tessa was crazy in her opinion, but what about sweet Caroline? If Elena brings up the friend card, there will be hell to pay from my side because that's just hypocritical of her. She's with his brother so if Stefan and Caroline pursue a relationship with each other, what does she have to say about it? Personally, I hope she sticks her nose out of their business.

Me too! I love Steroline! I loved their chemistry and it was just awesome how their relationship developed. I think Stefan's relationship with Caroline has been the most beautiful thing for me. It was a natural progression and so organic. The first episode, he rejected her and now they're such close friends. I can see a romantic relationship forming and if it does, I hope the writers take care in developing it. She brings out the smiling fun Stefan that's hiding behind the normally brooding exterior. And I love that even though Stefan didn't remember her in this season early on, he still trusted her to help him.
