Mayra got down from the car, and held the car door, her face pale and breathing labored. She held her belly with her hand. Madhu took one look at her, jumped out the door and raced to her.
"I think my waters broken and I need to get to the hospital. "
"Okay lets go" she took her arm.
Looking at Mayra, Rishab ran to her, holding her, "whats wrong?"
"Her waters broke.Its all my fault. We shouldn't have gone to the spa."
He looks at her in an eye lock.
Panic was written all over her face.
Madhu...Madhu its not your fault. We need to get her to the hospital now.
Madhu replied as if on auto pilot. The health center here doesn't have obstetrics. The children center is about 30miles from here. It could take about 45 to 60 minutes to reach there.
Mayra let out a yelp and their attention was diverted to her. "I cant wait that long. The baby might come out anytime."
"There is a private clinic about 15miles from here, we can take her there. Thats the only option."
Madhu climbed into the back seat and Rishab eased Mayra beside Madhu. When Madhu look at Rishab, she had to bite back the temptation to offer drving. The drive was less than 30 minutes, but felt like more than an hour. Mayra winced with another contraction and Madhu held her.
"God, I hope we make it to the hospital fast. Second babies tend to come out fast."
Rishab's eyes met hers in the mirror.
"How do you know?"
"Inside source", her voice cracked and she averted her eyes out the window, trying to get a grip on her emotions.
Rishab pulled up in the unloading zone near the emergency exit, Madhu flew out the door to retrieve a wheel chair from the entrance. Rishab helped Mayra out the car and eased her into the chair.
Madhu spun her around and headed towards the door.
"Go park the car. We will be on the second floor."
"How do you know, where you'll be?" he called back
"Inside source", she said again and disappeared through the door, hoping her words would get lost in the chaos of the moment. When the nurses saw Mayra, they jumped from their stations to get her to the right place and start monitoring her. She threw her bag at Madhu and told all her required details would be in it. Madhu reached the reception desk and asked them to page for Dr. Ludzecky, that Madhu is in the hospital and its an emergency.By then Rishab reached her. Madhu was filling out the forms, when he saw Nick in doctors green scrubs brust through the door with a frantic look on his face and headed straight at him, knocking him down to his knees.
"Stay away from her, did you get that."
"What the heck?"
"Keep your hands off Madhu else..."
Nick holds Rishab by his collar and says else I would go to any extent to keep the mother of my child safe looking into his eyes.
Nick...Nick, leave him, I'm safe. Its Mayra, her waters broke down suddenly and we had to rush her to the hospital. He turns, smiles at her and she flew into his arms. I'm fine Nick. Nothings happened to me. I'm absolutely fine. I was scared when they paged me, you were in the hospital he said looking her over, touching her hair and finally resting his hands on her shoulders in a possessive grip.
Rishab saw Nick's eyes scan over her again and her hands rested comfortably on his chest. Then she kissed him on his cheek and hugged him tightly.
Rishab had his stomach in knots and his heart lurched out his chest.
Nick turned to Rishab and told your sister is in good hands. I shall personally look into it. Saying that he turned to Madhu. He hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead.
"Dinner tonight?"
"I wouldn't miss it." She was still smiling as Nick pulled his beeping pager from his waist.
Looking at it he asked, "do you have a ride home?"
"No...I'll wait till Mayra is out OT."
"Not sure how long it will take. You could wait in my office till then. Grab my car keys if you want to go out."
"Have to go." He kissed her again. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
Her love for him shone in her eyes and Rishab realised that this woman, who had his stomach tied in knots was still a stranger, a complete mystery.
Rishab kept some distance between them, while walking back to the waiting area and she was ok with that. She knew what he was thinking and she was ok with that too. There were times when you had a good looking guy for your friend, a benefit. She had seen his face when Nick told him "she is the mother of my child." His face was haggard and when Nick told, he loves her, yes, he thought she loves the tall and handsome Nick who sought her out in panic. Let him think that.
Pia was born after 20 minutes wait. In all this time she didn't offer any comfort talk to him. They just sat there in complete silence.
"What was he supposed to tell her?"
"Shit, what the hell did it matter."
"Where was his mind?"
"His sister was in OT and he was fretting about this female, who is a complete mystery in herself."
But he just couldn't forget what Nick told him, "she is mother of my child" and the love that shone in her eyes when she looked at him.. he wasn't blind to it. But why did she say she wasn't married? Hell, there are so many questions and answers to none.
After she met Mayra and the baby, making sure they were fine, she left. When he enquired about her with one of the hovering nurses, she told Madhu was with Dr. Ludzecky in his cabin. And by evening when his patience wore out, he went in seek of her. By the time he reached the consultation room, they were leaving.
It was quiet late by the time she came back home. Rishab saw Nick drop her off at her place. She was struggling to find her keys in the bag, when he came and stood behind her.
"God, that was spooky."
"You scared the shit outta me."
"We need to talk." Even he could hear the intimate pitch in his voice.
"That's not a good idea. We need to stay away from each other."
"Did you go out with Nick?"
"Yes. But still its none of your business, whom I go out with."
"It was about 24 hour ago when you were all over me."
"Oh god, I dont know what came over me then."
"Come on , the world wont tilt over its axis, if you speak with me."
"It did."
"What?" "Tilt off its axis?" He guessed, she didn't mean to say that. "For me too, honey."
"Don't call me that."
"Are we ever going to talk about it, Madhu?"
"No, we are going to forget it happened."
"I dont think, I can do that."
Looking into her eyes, he walks towards her, she steps back into the wall. He corners her with his hands on the wall.
"Do you love him?"
"Yes, I love him".She thought it was the truth, but in a contorted way. Not like how he thought , but never the less she loves Nick.
"So you are, mother of his child?"
"Yes, I'm, mother of his child."
"He is father of you child?"
"Yes, he is."
"After all that said, what is this chemistry between us?"
She raised her shaky fingers to his mouth and said" dont say anything."
She unlocked the door and went inside. He stepped inside, closed the door and turned to her.
She slid her hands above his chest, wrapped them around his neck and pressed her body against his.
He clamped his arms around her tightly and she only tried to get even closer. He burried his mouth on her neck as she got on her toes and she did the same to him. He kissed her, sucked her there primitively to leave his mark there. She bit him and soothed the nick with her tongue. He shoved her against the wall and hiked her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist. He held her shoulders and ravaged her mouth. He reached for her blouse buttons fumbling, then some scrappy lacy thing which passed for a bra was unclaspped and she completely spilled into his palms.
She was full, lush and womanly. He massaged her, wispered, "You are so beautiful," and took a nipple in his mouth.
She moaned and clasped his head and anchored him there. His groin bumped her crotch, grounding against it and for a second, he thought he might go off. His hands went every where, her bare shoulders, naked rib cage and all the while he suckled her.
"Your skirt" he growled, "I can't take it off, with your legs like that."
"You first", she was tearing his shirt, with his button popping out and he shed out his shirt. She was still anchored to the wall, bare skin met bare skin. She jolted and he swore. She bit his shoulder and he went to her breast again.
"This f**king skirt, take it off Madhu."
He stepped back,she slid to her feet and went for his pants. A moment of sanity returned and he asked her for her room. He grabbed her hand, started dragging her to room. They took only couple of steps and she clasped him from behind. They stumbled and fell down. She went for his zippers again and dragged the whole thing off along with his shoes and socks. Her fingers dove inside and held him there; his whole world dimmed. She burried her face in his lap. After moments of ecstasy, he stopped her. Shakily, he got to his feet,drew her up and dropped her skirt down her hips. He dragged her up into his arms and walked to the room stumbling, as she didn't make it any easier. Once inside the room, he almost dropped her on the bed.
Sanity resurfaced again and told her"I dont have condom, tell me you have some."
"Top shelf, bathroom." He darted away, found it and came back in seconds.
Madhu couldn't think, she could only react. Rishab came back, catching a box of condoms, she caught a glimpse of his dark, tight jockeys; full and aroused. He struggled with the condom packet and she yanked his briefs down. After he sheathed himself, she felt herself being pushed on to tbe bed. He ripped her lacy panties away. He placed a knee on the bed and bent her legs high up.
He only said "look at me" and plunged into her.
She was filled like, no one had ever filled her. He was holding on her knees but stopped.
"Dont stop."
"Shh, I need a moment or l'll..."
She grasped his hips and yanked him towards her.
He tensed and thrust voilently into her.
Only twice, before she was eclipsed by explosion of colors and sounds and feelings so intensed that she almost lost consciousness.
The next thing Madhu became aware of was Rishab was impossibly heavy on her and his breath coming in heavy gulps. He was still inside her. She kissed his shoulder and ear. Still he didn't move. She inhaled him. He was male and musky.
"RISHAB", she told finally."Are you alright? "
He mumbled into her neck. "I can't believe, I'm still breathing."
She chuckled. Finally he pulled back. Bracing his arms on either side of her head on the pillow, he stared down at her.
Never in her life had a man looked at her like that. His expressions were so profound that it humbled her.
"Wow" he said.
"Wow, youself"
"It was-"
"Incredible"
"I'm -"
"Destroyed"
"It meant-"
"A lot Madhu."
"Too much." And kept looking into her eyes.
